Thanks for posting this. I followed your steps and was very pleased with the result, and I learned a few new tricks.
The graphics designer who told you nothing is black is correct. True black is no color at all, hence RGB 0,0,0 or #000000. I've been using #090909 for black backgrounds for years. The only thing I use true black with is printable versions.
The logo I made here was an army green background (#002200) with smoke white text (#F2F2F2). I think it adds to that vintage feel.
The steps I tried to skip were rasterizing the circles and cutting them to break them up. If you make the background color of the rectangle the same as the background color of the image, it hides them anyway. That worked until I went to make a version of the logo with a transparent background. Then I had to go back and do it right. Now I'm glad you included those steps.

My only question I have is I made my logo and now Im trying to export as a PNG so I can print on T's, but when I get rid of the black background it shows the bar in the middle that I used to make my shape. How do I keep the circle shape I created while blending the bar so it doesnt show up when I export as a PNG?

To get rulers up, simply press "Ctrl R" on a Windows machine. "Cmd R" on a Mac.
Maybe select a circle and move it with your arrow keys? I hold Shift and move my shapes with the arrow keys to move them in larger increments as well.
