Daily driving with launch capability. You know... from light to light! The Edelbrock supercharger was suggested to me by the parts department at the dealer! So Edelbrock is my choice for boost. Happy Thanksgiving guys.
    I'm looking to add a SC to my BRZ TS. It has Tomei uel and e85.
    Either Edelbrock V3 or HKS V3
    Other than going for a drive, which I'm planning to do to compare, how are they different while daily driving?
    Is the lag to reach rpm to create boost so noticeable or is it similar to remaining longer in gear to build up power from higher rpm?
    Does the centrifugal SC feel more like NA than a Turbo charger but less than a pd SC? Are both pd and centrifugal close enough to NA so it doesnt matter or what is the difference in the driving experience?
    Which one is quiter overall?
    Thanks.

They will say that both of those are "underpowered" stock, but that doesn't matter after modifications are applied which is exactly what everyone does to 86s. Does turbo and supercharger play a role in drifting, if so what is best?

    • @dsport
      @dsport  Před 4 lety +1

      Pro drifters use either. It depends on preference and setup. A turbocharger or supercharger is just one element. How you like to initiate the drift, whether you're running nitrous or not, and many other factors play a role in choosing the better forced induction for your drift car. The complete setup and personal preference is the key factor, however. Both can work, and do work, extremely well for drifting.

    • @mrelemantal4743
      @mrelemantal4743 Před 3 lety

      A supercharger will be better if you start your drifts at the bottom of or rpm range by accelerating hard to break traction than slowly increasing acceleration to get through your corner, if you're more of a pull the hand break chaining drifts going wide open than a turbo will be better depends where your using your power range I personally prefer the lower range as it's a bit more controlled and if you ever start to lose control it's easier to get it back in a lower range

      On any supercharger system belt slippage can affect how much boost pressure is made. Perhaps when Vortech tested the system they had less belt slippage and made more boost. Or perhaps they had better fuel (not California 91 octane). It's hard to say why it made less than advertised. The important thing in this is that all of the numbers from our test can be compared since all cars were tested on the same dyno and the same fuel.

    how much power the engine can handle?

    • @dsport
      @dsport  Před 5 lety +10

      In factory trim, the weak link of the FA20 is the connecting rods. The ultimate power handling capabilities of any engine is determined by a number of factors. In fact, it's not the power number but rather the cylinder pressures that eventually stress the parts to failure. Cylinder pressure is directly related to the torque output of the engine. In the case of the FA20 engine found in the FR-S/BRZ/86, the engines seem to have no issues living around 225lb-ft (at the wheels) with a proper tune that avoids detonation. Since a turbo isn't driven by the crankshaft, a number closer to 250lb-ft is probably the level where the stresses are equal. Since each dyno reads differently, the safety factor seems to be around 65-percent more torque output than the stock numbers with a supercharger. With a turbo, the limit is about 75-percent more torque at the wheels. What is that in horsepower? If the engine is producing 225lb-ft or 250lb-ft of torque at 7,000RPM, the power output is going to be about 300whp or 335whp, respectively. Going beyond this number begins to approach an area where the stresses and strains may lead to fatigue or about of the connecting rods. It's like bending a paper clip back and forth. You can do this for a while, but eventually the paper clip (or connecting rods) fatigue and fail.

    DSPORT I just watched your video a few times in a row and I agree with the comment by disco Becky. My comments are not meant to offend and hopefully will help you with future production. Here are some detailed impressions. Overall, the pace of this video was far too fast. The narrator was going through the script so quickly that I watched the video several times to hear salient points clearly. The transitions were too quick on the graphs that you displayed, and I would argue there was too much information on those pages. You could have spread things on to multiple screens of data, and if you slowed the overall pace of narration, the extra screenshots of data results would be much easier to digest. This is the first video I have watched of your channel, but I think this is also reflected in your thumbnails and titles for videos. There is just too much information. It should be easier to glance at a thumbnail and title and know the subject of the video. I think you’d get more hits and views if you trimmed the titles in a focused manner. I really do wish this video had better/slower pacing. My gut says this should have been a ten- to fifteen-minute video. Maybe twelve minutes would be the sweet spot. I dunno, but it is unfortunate, as this video does hit a pertinent subject. Love the content/dislike the way the content was delivered. Also, the video clips were disjointed as disco Becky pointed out. I’d say the video clips chosen were random and choppy - just not long enough to develop a feel of the subjects being discussed at the dame time. Does that help? Maybe having someone independent of your company/group reviewing your content as you develop it would be helpful? Keep making videos, as you definitely have an interesting take on things. I like the balanced comparison. But editing content changes would greatly help. Do consider letting your content “breathe”. This video, while full of useful info, just felt rushed.

    Good lord... 6K for 250whp... that's absurdly expensive. I have a 335i and installed a Pure stage 2 high flow kit for 4K. boosting from 270whp to 620 whp... almost three extra engines of power for 4k.

    • @redlion145
      @redlion145 Před 4 lety +1

      ... a 335i new from the factory retailed for 12k more than a BRZ/86. That's a huge difference in price to begin with. Second, the price of a turbo kit for a car that doesn't have an intercooler, tubing, etc will be higher than the price for a car that already has turbos. A lot of your old turbo parts can be reused.
      And you already had twin turbos, why did you bother with a high flow kit? You could have just flashed the ecu for 50-100 more HP out of that strait six.

    • @matreyia

      @@redlion145 - Twin turbos stock 335i are only 300 crank 265 wheel. with MHD tuning only and FBO add ons, you can get 420whp.
      You wrote that I could have 100 more hp... well I had almost 200 whp more than stock tune with stock turbos and MHD tune. So you are a little behind.
      High Flow Pure Turbos currently yield 620whp...so yeah, there's that. And if you haven't ever driven a car with over 600whp...then you won't understand.
      There is no way you can even get close to that power in a maxed out brz even if you spent 10K. You literally have to take out the engine and redo the internal so you can add on super insane turbos to make that much power. And if you did that... you might as well have bought an M car.
      Again... this BRZ /Scion platform is too expensive to modify and get any decent power.
