- The plaintiff got a loan in her name and gave it to her brother’s girlfriend, the defendant, because the plaintiff’s brother needed a car. The plaintiff says the defendant racked up parking tickets in her name, and the car got repossessed, so she’s suing. The defendant doesn’t think she owes anything.

I do not like when she says that because it seems like she is always implying that people MUST remain close with their siblings and always forgive them or work through their issues and that's not feasible for a LOT of people. If your sibling violates your boundaries consistently or is mentally damaging to be around then you have every right to protect yourself and cut contact with them if need be.
I do tear up though when she says that as well.... my older brother physically abused me when I was a child. By 17 I ended up in a psychiatric hospital and then transferred to rehab (stemming from behavioral issues as a result of the abuse). It was while in rehab that my brother Facebook messaged me an apology for the abuse. I forgave him because I wanted a normal sibling relationship so desperately. We became civil and almost like typical siblings for a few years. Then... he changed and became very verbally and emotionally abusive to me. I struggled with an eating disorder and he would call me fat constantly. Screams at me and berates me. He hates me. I forgave him and he still decided to hate me. I cut him out of my life (against an endless barrage of comments from family demanding I be the bigger person or just ignore him), and I think JM should consider things like this when she says that line... people don't shouldn't be pressured to tolerate abuse because they are related to someone or made to feel guilty for putting mental wellbeing over the concept of "family ".

I feel sorry for the sister. Her brother is an ungrateful piece of garbage and so is the girlfriend and he’s lazy. I’m an only child and this has me crying because I can see how much she loves her brother. She’s beautiful and a kind soul, I wish I had a sister like her.

I have family and I mean close family members ask me to co-sign or put a vehicle under my name. With the utmost respect, I said, HELL NO! I worked hard to get my credit back on point. I would never jeopardize it for someone looking for an easy way to bypass their poor credit score decisions.
This all falls on the plaintiff for her bad decision. It's not like she wasn't aware of her brother and his girlfriend's current position. The weight is all on her!
And never co-sign for a relative or friend. I told my brother when reached 18, never look for me to co-sign. And he listened.
My step father co signed for me for my first car ( due to me not having any credit ) and I remember him telling me “ if you ever have a problem with a car payment, let me know! do not have any late / missed payments. 7 years later with no problems and I’m freeeeeee. I’m super great full and knowing my step dad put his credit on the line, I would of never jeopardized that. Now only if others would think like this when someone’s helping them out……
My brother just recently asked me to co-sign for a loan so that he can pay off his credit card debt. I’ve been working hard on my credit, so it was an easy no. He actually said that he knows it must have been hard. Nope, the easiest no that I’ve ever said.

I did sign my name on my son's car. He paid for the car fully I decided to put my name on the registration in case his car was towed, so I could pick it up. When I noticed the parking tickets and the speeding tickets coming in the mail. I took my name off. But we both had to go to the DMV.

Kids? Never a lender or a borrower be. So glad my parents raised me this way. Go to school & university, graduate, work hard, and Buy Your Own stuff. Don't borrow anything from anybody - especially from family. Just don't. Wait untl you have enough saved to buy your own cars, homes, etc. It ain't worth borrowing from friends or family, because it's too easy to make excuses for not paying your peeps.
