I can´t express the feelings I have after watching this. I´ve been to Spain countless times, but when I finally reached Galicia I knew for me it was the most special part of all. It´s such a magnificent place, people who live there are so lucky to be having peaceful time in these lands. Thank you for making this video, I hope more people will see it!
I've visited different parts of Spain but Galicia is my favorite bit of Spain. Actually the whole north is a gem. I recommend everyone to visit and meet the most friendly people of Spain. You will enjoy!
I’m a son of Galician immigrants who came to the US for a better life, watching this brought a tear to my eye, and made me proud to be Galician, Thank you
Half of Galicia is in Portugal. Most of he kings and the bishops of the Kingdom of Galicia are buried in Braga. Yes, there are four Spanish provinces that kept the historical name, but that means nothing. Northern Portugal is as Galician, often more so than, as the Spanish provinces.
Many countries have regions that don't fit the national profile. Galicia is one, northern 1/3rd of germany. Nord pas de calais, corsica, alsace, and the basque lands which france shares with spain. And in the us: louisiana and hawaii. Countries like corporations are brands they invest in what sells.
Northern Portugal and Spanish Galicia is like French Brittany , and British wales , Scotland and Ireland . It’s far west europe at the western coasts of Europe and are probably the last remains of the Celtic world. And yes their cultures are kinda on the cliffhangers you could say.
Have to say several things, first of all concerning protest, who says galicians don't protest, we do, but it's impossible to expect big protests like in Catalonia in a country like our were the biggest city has just 300.000 people (counting the perifery). There is just too little concentration of people for protests to turn out to be big when the question is something that's seen as "local" and that mainstream media don't talk much about. Second, galicia and resistance to franco, what do u mean we didn't resist? The spanish civil war ended in Galicia when the last guerrilla fighters were killed in the sixties in Galicia. Buying into that the war ended in 1939 is buying into the francoist historiography.
Que documentaría tan conmovedora! Tu manera de tejer cada personalidad representando cómo se siente ser de Galicia es muy íntima y poética. Muchísimas gracias!
Very well done! I’m a person of Galician and Portuguese ancestry who was born in California. My surname is Galego, but my maternal side came to California when Hawaii was stolen by the U.S.A. I’ve heard how “stubborn” the Galicians are! They should at least join the international community of Portuguese speaking countries, IMO. My ancestry may explain my otherwise unexplainable love of bagpipes! Not a really popular sound here, but it must come from my blood. Anyway, thanks for this. A very unique and irreplaceable people of the sea. Viva Galicia!
It is not true that the church has particular influence in Galicia. It is making category of a very specific group of people. The disaffection with the church is as much as in the rest of Spain, or more. I think the North of the country has broken with the church more than the South.
Most of people is anticlerical they might be catholic practicants adept to saints and the Virgin Mary , but dessafectionate with priests and church . There are plenty of very old folk songs about priests being naughty with the handmaiden or other whomen.
A wonderful documentary, that brought tears to my eyes. I'll be visiting Galicia in August (2024) and it's fun to see that all of these old people remind me so much of my grandma and grandpa (who are Galicians)... Thanks for the video.
Spain is the arabization of Iberia, the dutch always loved the ottomans just like the venetians! Galicians should have joined Dom Afonso Henriques. Europe is falling so maybe there will be another chance to fix Iberia! Abraços irmãos da bela Galícia!!!
@@vprodocumentary As Spaniard it surprises me the toxicity of these series about Spain. It is always interesting learning about the different regions of Spain since so many reactionaries in Latin America as well as the diaspora love to call themselves Spanish but know little if anything about how Spain like Latin America is regional with certain regions not even wanting to identify with Spain.
I love the reaction of the trio at the beginning of the video. They are happy talking about the food but when the conversation goes towards politics and centralism, they back off. You can tell they are right wing.
