So glad you did this video. I just put one on my sons Manco 616 with a 40 series torque converter and I love that thing. Right now I’m trying to figure out how to replace the back wheels on it with the hex design. Do you think I should just change out the hex axle for a 1” cylinder axle? What about milling the mounting surface on the starter itself to give more depth to the gear? Then your fix isn't in spinning components. Not sure if it can be done but I will always have thought it could be lol
Can you add a link to the starter ring gear, didnt see it in the description. Also great content as always.
ARC sells the flywheel and ring gear as a kit and it looks like it comes with spacers to put between the two to get the right starter engagement
What about charging for the battery and any lights? How do you make that work?
You should use a micrometer to measure the crankshaft. The difference is knowing for sure that when you measure 1.416" that you have 1.416" plus or minus a half thousandth versus plus or minus a couple thousandth of an inch. For most of your builds it probably doesn't matter but when trying to get an engine to go all out it could make a difference. Personally I buy a lot of my measuring tools used to help lower the costs.
What’s the best way to get more charging from a 440? I have seen an 18 amp Honda 4 post charging coil that I don’t know if it really puts it out. It was $150 plus the needed flywheel with 4 magnets was about $50. Or would putting a alternator pulley on the end of my comet 780 be a better option?
I bought a new 440 with the D shaped starter. Definitely a 7 bolt side cover. Hopefully the guts and flywheel I will order will be the same as you show. I'm getting the 6623 ( I mounted a alternator) the 6272 rod. The 7 bolt cover is a 6059 the 10 bolt is a 6060. I believe the head gasket is a DJ-4610T which is a thick gasket. Thinner gasket is a MLS92-027.
did that 6623 flywheel end up fitting right? or have you not ordered yet, iwas lookin at the same flywheel, and the .308 cam
@KobeGriffin I contacted duromax and they said the only change is the recoil start cover that changed.

Where can you still buy one of these old style engines? All I can find are the 7 bolt side cover ones with the D-shaped pull start. What is compatible between the old ones and the new ones?

I have one of these on my surface drive. Wondering if I could drill a hole in the valve cover and use a fuel pump to run a bigger fuel tank or if you'd recommend running a carb with a vacuum line instead? Also would like to upgrade the charging system as it is electric start and I run LED lights on my boat so it would be nice to run at least the small ones that way

Are there recharging coils for these? On the flywheel,, couldn’t the ring gear be milled out to fit around and be welded to the flywheel?

FYI The 440 that shows in your link from Amazon is a different engine than shown in the video. The block casting and covers differ, and the side cover is 7 bolt. Possibly different mfg, or updated design? (The Amazon photo is the same, the actual engine shipped is different)

Im assuming air filter and stock throttle setup/linkages are the same as the gx390/pred420?
What flat top piston would you use? I would like to bump up the compression.
How many different types of flat tops are there? If there are many options it'd just depend on how much you want to increase compression.
Greg have fuel issues with engine swap to a 2009 Yamaha, installed DuroMax 18 hp engine and 2 to 5 pound electric fuel pump because fuel tank low fuel sucks air and starves for gas now fuel by passes needle and seat with stock carb, ideas?? has stock carb.
do you build these for mud boat motors the record is 64mph i feel like this 18 horse built right could get you going 45 to 50 on the water i havent seen one built yet but it makes a big diffrence in these carts

I've ordered already the starter and the electric switch ass'y, which I have a project to put it on a small boat. I just bought a 440 and electric start and my stock rod had the bearing insert and the side cover is 7 bolts. What billet rod are you running?

i have a 439cc Duramax motor from a campion type of generator. It has a "very short power output shaft" that fits into the generator stator parts. Is there a different crankshaft available that I can I replace it with in order to bolt it to a 40 series torque converter?
Does arc have a warranty for the billet flywheel I have one and the key way sheered and messed up the flywheel

Does the Duromax 440 have a ball bearing on both the flywheel side AND the PTO side? You never showed the inside of the side cover.

Hoping to get a reply I’ve been watching all you builds but the duromax 440 is what I’m putting in a golf cart and I was installing new valve springs and on of the keepers shot in to space, can’t find it anywhere so I’m just wondering where to get the new ones. I ordered a set of 6.5 form omb that the guy suggested but they are completely different I believe they may be 5.5 but not sure/ middle to lower groove is what i need as well please help

Red Beard, I've got a problem, please help.
I recently bought a 500cc Duromax generator rated at 20 hp. The valve cover has 4 bolts, unlike a GX390 Honda which has the single, central bolt. The generator had a bent pushrod that measures a bit over 190mms. What really surprised me is there is no pushrod guide, and the rocker arms don't have have a stud in the center of the arms. Have you had any experience or seen anything like this? BTW, it resembles the 440cc motor you tear down in this video, but it is different.

I just purchased the DuroMax 18 hp 440cc. Did they make 2 different Block versions? Mine only has 7 Bolts holding the cover on? Update: So after some research it appears the XP18HPX uses a 7 bolt side cover. I ordered the XP18HPE. The box that the engine came in says its what I ordered but the block says a different story. Anybody know of any other way to tell the difference?

I’d say 459. It has an oil pump.
What about the 500cc ? Does it have aftermarket support?
How about a chain clutch that will hold 18hp? I cant find one only 13hp trying to avoid the whole torque converter set up want clutch to axle.

I have more of a question than a comment. Now I am an old school drag racer was a Ford master certified technician I've got a 14 yo is getting into cart drag racing And I am kinda lost on the predator vs duromax vs lifan stuff and I watch this channel quite a bit ya'll are quite informative, but my question is this. Is duromax and Vegas pumping their hp and tp on these engines? I know it's possible to get more hp and tp out of small ci or cc in just how they are built. So is that the case or are the numbers exaggerated a wee bit? Thanks
How to get this engine to idle without engaging the torque converter . I need it to idle at lower rpms....

you probably should of debured the edges of the shaft key slot before pre-fitting the aluminum flywheel. you took a lot of material off that flywheel.

@@bradensmith888 No some cheap Chinese crap from amazon I didnt need anything performance wise. Because I was an idiot and bought the Pull start 440 I had to cut out the hole for the starter plus drill out the holes for the starter mounting bolts. It was a PITA if this engine grenades or my next project I am buying the one with the electric start as the amount of time I wasted was the worst. But its up and running now with the starter I just need to mount in my golf cart now.
Since VegasCarts discontinued the 460, would there be any issues on swapping the 460 con rod into the 440?

I tried putting one on my Coleman ct200 U-ex with a 40 series torque converter and honestly it was just too much weight trying to lean or do anything but go in a straight line on. It’s scary waiting for the torque converter to click in cause it pops the tires up so easily. I recommend a go kart hands down that’s why I ended up doing.
