This seems genius to me. I taught this to my 6th grade team on Wednesday and we’re using it tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this, Coach.

I never have liked the 2-1-2 because, like Coach Neely said, most teams play it as a very passive, packed in defense. I love pressure, so this version is intriguing to me! Almost hss some Buzz like principles, but is played in a more sustainable way.

The forwards are covering free throw line down. If it’s in the corner and they’re on the ball is the center dropping all the way down to the block to continue being between the ball and the basket or is the opposite forward coming all the way over?

The opposite forward covers any weakside flash as the ball is moved to the corner. That forward then "passes off" the flash to the center who is dropping all the way down between the ball and the basket. The weakside forward then has any offensive players diving to the rim.

Coach - how do you play against good 3 pt shooting teams? Does defending a good 3pt shooting team cause problems for you? Is the fix, just to extend your defense to get out on shooters? Thanks!

We'll lift the forwards to be closer to any 3P shooters on the wing. Sometimes we'll spread the top two guards to be closer to those wing shooters. Then it's the center's responsibility to guard any drive from the top of the key.
