HR Giger is probably best known for his creature which was brought to life in the franchise of Alien films. But for almost 50 years Giger has been producing artwork and has established himself as one of the word's best Fantastic Realism artists.
Born in 1940 in Chur Switzerland he know resides in Zurich Switzerland. But JustSayGo's television host and travel journalist Ron Stern caught up with Giger at his bar in Gruyeres Switzerland. The artist is not known for giving many interviews, especially on camera, which is what makes the exclusive interview so special.
Ron was also able to talk to Giger's wife Carmen Maria Giger who mentions having a poster of Giger's work when she was 17 but had no idea who the artist was.
He is an artist that has had a career most artists would envy. Early in his career he set himself apart by using a freehand airbrush technique to develop his own unique and now well known style.
In 1977 he published the book Necronomicon which is what was the visual inspiration for director Ridley Scott's film Alien. The director commissioned HR Giger to design the film's title character as well as the film's alien environment. These designs earned Giger an Oscar in 1980 for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.
Giger's work also had an influence on rock n roll. His work graced the cover of many notable musicians such as Debbie Harry, Danzig, and Celtic Frost, just to name a few. His most well known though is probably Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's 1973 album Brain Salad Surgery. Sadly the original art work from that double cover was recently stolen and is still missing.
Today HR Giger's work can be found through out Europe. You can find more information about HR Giger, his work, and where it is currently on display at his website.

+Christopher Harrison What an extremely narrow minded view. He also painted AND sculpted demon alien penises AND vaginas raping men AND women,
But seriously, without him we would not have had the word biomechanical and it's art movement. The grunge look of the 90's. Every science fiction and horror story since 1979 has been a direct descendant of his vision.

I remember the very day in 1979 when I was a kid. Bored in an airport, our flight was delayed from Luton to Spain ( this was my first trip on a plane, so I was very excited). Then an announcement said our flight was delayed so to console me my father went and bought me a magazine. It was Omni, he bought it because he thought it had 'something to to with Star Wars' on the cover (I wasn't interested in Star Wars). So, utterly bored flicking through this magazine that really wasn't for kids... cigarette adverts and such, BOOM there was an image by Giger, a page from Necronomicon... I remember the thrill I got, literally a shiver, aroused, fascinated, and disturbed all at the same time... this was the day my imagination was struck by a bolt of lightning! Thank you 'Laker Airlines' and thank you H.R.Giger. 🏆🚀

LOL, I love how humble Mr Giger is about his creation, the Alien - one of the most legendary creature design in history. "...a creature who looked a little scary, and um... yep.." XD
At the end the interviewer made a reference to "Aliens", which Mr Giger was NOT allowed to work on, (allegedly was a huge disappointment for him). It was awkward how Giger looked sideways and nodded at the reference.

I love how irritated he got when the interviewer pulled the line from Alien II and didn't realize that Giger's pained expression wasn't from of exhaustion of Alien film questions or use of lines form the films but the fact that he didn't know that James Cameron removed Giger form his creation in the sequel Cameron using his own alien designs and even worse altering Giger's original work.

Remembering Hans Ruedi "H.R." Giger born on February 5, 1940. He was a Swiss artist best known for his airbrushed images that blended human physiques with machines, an art style known as "bio-mechanical". Giger later abandoned airbrush for pastels, markers and ink. He was part of the special effects team that won an Academy Award for the visual design of Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien. His work is on permanent display at the H.R. Giger Museum in Gruyères, Switzerland. His style has been adapted to many forms of media, including album covers, furniture, and tattoos. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._R._Giger
