    Ben, I really enjoy your videos and always check my inbox to see if you’ve posted anything new. I appreciate your content and can very much relate to your rural lifestyle. The area in which you live is similar to south central Nebr where I live. With all that said I believe the real unsung hero of your videos is your wife and her filming abilities. Her camera placement is always spot on. Many of the channels I enjoy I wonder if they’ve got any family life. They’ve got full-time jobs then make videos sometimes into the late, late hours. I think it’s awesome that your videos are a family production! Keep blest as you’re blessing.

    Several observations: (1) Never apologize for who you are - "just an old hillbilly playing with fire wood." (2) You're a smart guy who got rid of some other toys to purchase this new toy that will actually benefit your family with a warm home this winter. (3) While we didn't really see where you were chucking this split wood, would it be an idea to set up some pallets right near by so they can be stacked, rather than have to be handled an additional time in your process? (4) Great experience for your son to also be smart and have a part in helping his family survive and thrive.

    I'm wondering if maybe that last one wasn't quite "level" so to speak. Maybe you were trying to split kind of across the grain a little? Might be part of what was making her struggle? Just a thought. I'm sure you'll figure out what works best as you get more practice. Have fun buddy!

    Been wanting to get one of these monsters for a couple years. I’m thinking about the configuration you have here but with auto cycle. This is the first video I’ve seen with the box wedge where a round got stuck multiple times. I wonder if running the wedge lower on those tough rounds means it will push it through each pass. By taking off smaller pieces, like when you split large rounds by hand, start cleaving off the outside sap wood and work your way in? I’ll find out when I can afford one in the future. I’m splitting everything with a maul and I love the work out, but when business is booming (self employed carpenter) it get difficult to make time to get some splitting done. Fortunately I’m a full year ahead on my cordage so there is a buffer. Great real world product demonstration!

    • @survivingcountrylife7069
      @survivingcountrylife7069  Před 3 lety

      Running the wedge lower gives u more power to push it through. Last summer I had big maple rounds that would only push through with it lower

  • @dackerson5
    @dackerson5 Před 4 lety

    Ben, nice splitter...I would like to put that up against my Timberwolf TW-6. See if Eastonmade makes an auto ram feature on the valve body. You hit the lever and it automatically pushes out then retracts on its own. You will see how much faster you can split. I put the valve on my Timberwolf a few years back. .. big difference. You can't feed fast enough. Neither machine mess around when it comes to firewood!. Good luck and be safe

    @BaronBoar Před 3 lety

    it would be a bit faster I think if you lowered the box wedge just a bit to keep the pieces a bit smaller. Also making the pieces smaller would make it not stall out on the gnarly pieces. I have seen them go through big pieces like that before, but they keep the wedge lower so their is less twist to go through. You do the same thing when splitting round that large by hand. Spilt the edges off first before trying to split it in half.

      I will admit that that is some tough fiberous wood to split. It is not like cedar, or doug fir, just seemed slow and anemic even when the wedge was set low. My concern would be when he gets into knots. If he is struggling with the non knotted wood what he going to do when he gets into tougher pieces? Did he just order a size of machine that was to small for his needs? Seems like he will burn up the motor or pump. I'm not knocking the equipment it's a great piece, just underpowered for the wood he is splitting.
