      Thanks! It looks a lot better now! I’m anxious to see how it cuts compared to my John Deere!

    I own this mower now. Thank you for doing such a great job of refurbishing it. I bought in Douglasville last year. It has been super reliable. I've put about a 100 hours on it, still starts on the first pull and uses no oil.

    Awesome video and tutorial.
    Thank you so much for sharing.
    My father taught me how to sharpen these using the same method back in the early 70's
    I'm also the proud owner of two 1950 Pennsylvania reel mowers.
    One is fully restored and showroom condition.
    The other one is restored and I actually mow with it on a small strip of grass out front by the right-of-way.
    I always get a kick out of people that slow down as they watch the little Pennsylvania cut like a gem.
    Keep the good videos coming my friend and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

    Best backlapping tutorial I’ve seen. I have a GM 1000 with a new reel and bedknife that won’t cut paper in the middle. It’s back at the service shop and now that I’ve seen this I am going to ask for a backlap to mate the surfaces. I’m convinced what you have demonstrated here will solve my issue.

    This is by far the best toro backlapping video on CZcams. Now I feel like you should do a height of cut video. Your instructional technique is on point.

    Dope video. Must be awesome to be able to handle your own mechanics. I can imagine you save quite a bit of money and time that way.

    I'm seriously thinking bout buying a use Toro; bout how much you paid for yours? And what is the HOC?

    • @TheSouthernReelMower
      @TheSouthernReelMower  Před 4 lety

      My hoc is .375. To get a good unit, it’s going to cost 1000.00 at least

      I recently acquired a GreensMaster 1000. I think $1,000 is a good minimum but you're going to have to do some research to find a good unit for a grand. I paid $1,850 and bought it from a local country club to me. Need to check the engine, the reels and bedknife, the hours, etc. Know where it came from. If you can find one from a golf course I highly recommend it. Or a unit that was used at a golf course but traded in. Buying from an individual isn't the best option to me. Need to realize a new reel, bedknife and a sharpening is going to cost in the range of $500-600, so having life on the reel is key. I highly recommend doing a lot of research. It's worth the extra effort and $ to avoid expensive repairs.

    I’d love to be able to tear mine down and rebuild it like you did. Over never done anything that extensive before and wouldn’t want to screw anything up though. Any recommendations on how to get started?

    • @TheSouthernReelMower
      @TheSouthernReelMower  Před 5 lety +2

      Definitely should have some mechanical background. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It doesn’t require any special tools. If you do tackle it, label every bolt and lay things out as you took them off. Take photos and video to help re assembly

      @@TheSouthernReelMower how often do you recommend backlapping?

    • @TheSouthernReelMower
      @TheSouthernReelMower  Před 5 lety

      Well it all depends on your mowing conditions. If your mowing mulch, sticks etc more often. On a perfectly clean lawn, maybe twice a season? Also depends how often your mowing.
