Excellent review, very comprehensive. I have an Oxygen, definitely plan to try the new vented shield.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it. Yes the new visor is great news!! Cheers, Jesse
Very nice job ! Keep up the great videos coming. Thank you 😎
Thanks Jeff! Really appreciate that man. Lots more coming for the next 3 or 4 weeks :)
Cheers, Jesse
Thanks for the good review, lots of information!
Thanks Dennis! Glad you liked it. Cheers, Mike
Great overview of these helmets.
Wife just bought an Oxygen helmet...going to look for an after market peak if it's possible to add.
Same with the upgraded visor with vent for Oxygen.
I'm looking at getting the Advex and installing a Cardo Edge...as well for my wife's Oxygen.
The Vibe not being Cardo compatible and the Vibe also not allowing charging while in use are major deal breakers when looking at Vibe.
Love all the Carbon! 🤤
Of course u do.. your the carbon guru 😅
After running the Oxygen helmet for 4 or 5 years I switched to the Mission Patriot Carbon this year. The oxygen helmet was just too warm for me where the mission gets much better air flow. The photochromatic shield is amazing though as it tints in the sun and clears when you need it. The mission is much noisier in comparison as the oxygen with my sena is much better. I do like the looks of the patriot mission much better. The convenience of the magnetic cord on the oxygen is great. Also have found the mission shield to latch tough at times. Both have been great just depends on what your wants and needs are for sure! Great video yet again.
Good inputs there Justin and thanks for watching! Mike
No issues with CKX Mission if you use the right dealer. GP Bikes was awesome to deal with. Great helmet with no electric cord needed. 👍👍👍👍👍
Two categories that a future video should cover field of vision and comfort if you have to wear glasses, keep up the good work.
Thanks for your comment Paul! We touched on field of view a lot in the other video we linked in the top of this video. The oxygen has the best field of view by far and then the advex. The 509 and mission are relatively the same but less so then the oxygen or advex. Unfortunately we don't wear glasses sledding so can't comment on glasses comfort. All our buddies including myself just gave up on glasses and got contacts solely for sledding. Best decision I ever made. Cheers, Jesse
Thank you for sharing your time with us. You mentioned in the past how riders in your group wearing eyeglasses had no issues with their glasses fogging or frosting up when wearing the Oxygen helmet. Did you ever wear your eyeglasses in the Advex helmet or could you please share any insights on how well it may work with eyeglasses? Also, the design of both the Oxygen and Advex look similar - is there a chance the peak from the Advex could fit onto the Oxygen? Thank you
Great question. Unfortunately none of us wear glasses anymore as we have all gotten contacts. Best decision we ever made lol. I would assume that glasses in the advex would be comparable to the oxygen. Unfortunately the peak from the advex will not fit on the oxygen. Its actually an entire different visor. Cheers, Jesse
I have the 509 in carbon, same as you. Was unsure about the ear seals and fitment at first, but have gotten used to it and like it. I wear a balaclava that’s wind resistant around the neck and back of the head. The microphone clarity is better than I expected, but disappointed in using my phone to record audio with it. It needs a peak and sun shield, like the Mission. I had to carry sunglasses because of that. Had initial buyers remorse compared to the Mission, but am going to hold onto it for another season and see how it goes. Wish someone made a chin mount for GoPro.
Thanks for the comment! It definitely could use a peak or a sun shield. Cheers, Mike
You can get an electric dark shield for the Mission. You can also get an electric Photochromic shield which goes to dark in the sunlight.
Good to know!
Great comparison. Looking forward to new Oxygen visor. Advex just seems like a crazy price especially when it only pairs with Sena.
Advex price has come down in price I love the helmet
$1200 + 450 CDN???
@@northwash $700+$330 USD
Thanks man! That new flow visor for the oxygen will be a game changer. Yes the advex definitely is pricey.. Cheers, Mike
Have you guys ever tried a castle x cx950 v2 helmet? Bought one this year and love it comfortable , no air leaks and with an electric shield for $330 us.
Good to know! We haven't tried one no. Cheers, Mike
One of the big things with helmets is the ability to get a drink without removing the helmet. I get dehydrated riding so it’s a must for me.
100%. All these helmets are pretty easy to drink out of but the easiest is forsure the mission and advex. Cheers, Mike
I get the same way riding so I bought the Advex and it was great for that reason, very comfortable as well..I had no complaints drinking with my oxygen on either both great helmets..I can't comment how the others stack up though
Walter Roosa
I use the Cardo and the Oxygen as well. Question about the speakers, do you remove the red sound pads inside the Oxygen ear muffs?
Hey Walter! Great question. We used to put the speakers inside (behind the red pads) but the past year we removed the red pads entirely as they actually make the speaker sound quieter. Cheers, Jesse
Thats what I thought. The music is better as well? @@sledaddicz
@@walterroosa7999 yup!
Very informative video, looking forward to trying the new shield for the oxygen. Which helmet do you feel has the best field of vision ?
@@pro4501I'm pretty sure we mention it in the video but oxygen by far
Can you install the Cardo edge in the advex
Yes you can! We will be doing that next season.
Do you think the advex helmet would work with the oxygen helmet cord with the 3 heat settings?
It works but it won't change the heat temperature
Yes it does work and will change the temperature.
@@sledaddiczah good to know didn't know that great info
Ive had my mission since they came out and love it, but their warranty process and wait time for parts is an issue. I went through three visors and it took 9 months to get a new one.
Yup! Warranty can definitely be frustrating. Cheers, Jesse
What works best with glasses?
Oxygen and Mission work great with glasses.
Is the Advex helmet mouth vent adjustable ?
Unfortunately it isnt.
Can’t you put the cardos in the Advex?
In it no but on the helmet yes
Yup. That's our plan for next year. We will sell the vibe system and just add a cardo to the helmet. Cheers, Jesse
CKX contact review? Considerably less money
I've heard this is a good helmet but we didn't get our hands on one this season and focused on these 4 top-tier helmets. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Mike
The 509 helmet comes with the same JBL speakers that you get with the Cardo edge system….
Unfortunately that isn't actually true. It's a smaller mm JBL speaker setup in the 509 resulting in poorer sound quality. Cheers, Jesse
@@sledaddicz The helmet ships with 40mm JBL speakers. The Cardo website says the Edge system includes 40mm JBL speakers. I don’t doubt you hear a difference in sound quality. I believe the cause is that the speaker is placed behind the air bladder which has just a small hole to let sound through. Consider removing the bladder and see if the sound improves. You can always reinstall it after testing!
The absolute most important issue with a trail helmet is, can I run it without plugging in? As a high mileage, long distance rider, a failed heated visor will destroy your entire trip. Broken wires, wires falling out when riding aggressively, misplacing a wire, etc... All of it adds complexity for no reason whatsoever. The electricity helping with freezing rain is also a moot point - I've never used a heated visor in my life where it'd literally melt freezing rain off of the shield.
Having said that, the Mission has no equal.
The Oxygen also has severe reflection issues when riding at night with other lights coming into your field of vision.
Well I can honestly say both my wife and I put the heated non heated visor to the test in freezing drizzle lately in Cape Breton Highlands. Her heated shield hands down was the winner so I really can't agree with you on that circumstance
Thanks for your comment. I have to say.. we do a lot of miles each season and never had an issue with our electric visors, I've put over 30,000 kms on my oxygen helmet with the current visor. We also wire a backup visor plug to the battery just in-case the outlet on the sled fails, but we have yet to ever need it. Yes I hear you with regards to the reflection issues at night - it has been fixed for next season with the new flow visor. Cheers, Jesse
