I'm old enough to remember pound notes. Getting a pound coin was rare when I was a kid compared to now. I even remember when £2 coins wasn't really a thing (there was a few but they was more collector items compared to now)
Whatever happened to the half crowns and farthings and big copper pennies and thrupenny bits and silver sixpences and shillings? :-D

Pound coin arrived five years prior in 1983 and Scottish pound notes went on for a few years longer than in rest of UK.

Hi JT, just found your channel recently and have been binge watching them. You are such a delight to watch, so joyous and humble, and you always put a smile on my face. You're definitely one of the most down to earth CZcamsrs I have ever watched. You truly are fire! It would be great if you also reacted to some things about the Republic of Ireland at some point... history, landscapes, food, music, sports, etc. There is always so many reactions to the UK, it'd be nice for my country to get in on the action. Just a tip, JT: Every time 'shire' is on the end of a place name, just pronounce it the same way you guys pronounce New Hampshire. Because we got the original Hampshire here and its pronounced just the same way you guys say new hampshire :P

There was a lot of grumbling when we first moved away from the paper money and granted, the new notes can be a bit of a pain since they don't fold as well.
The plus side is I've not come across any grossly damaged notes since they've phased them out. They're super durable and have better security.... oh and it's not a big deal if they get a bit damp.
Also has Braille on them.

I'm 42 years old always had loads Scottish one pound notes made me feel very proud of my late mother and late grandmothers Scottish heritage every Christmas we got stocking to them that was clean pillow case not clean overstretched sock absolutely crammed full of knick knacks, little trinkets, Satsuma I don't mean ping pong ball size tasteless crap of today these Satsuma were huge enormous orange size so very plump juicy oranges they are also badly shrunk tasteless I miss old days fruit tasted so decent delicious not any more even Bananas, Grapes, melon, strawberries etc revolting which is real shame as I loved my fruit so very rare these days to get decent fresh fruit and vegetables. Every year knick knacks would change but every Christmas things that to them had to be in there was Satsuma, nuts,other fruit, silver and gold coin for lucky charm for added bonus pound note. up to 1999 they were very easily available and always around and given in my change quiet often and frequently I also use to send them as pocket money instead loose change in the post even Christmas present by not telling them by stuffing notes in books gave them some quiet excitement but after Millennium that's wen they were stopped being made Scottish pound notes are still in legal tender and still in circulation so can still be used to buy things English pound notes however ceased legal tender 5years after I was born in 1984. People on eBay either very very selfish and or greedy by asking for huge ridiculous amounts for them one person tried selling really scruffy ripped pound note for thousands what a nut job although Clydesdale Bank has ceased trading its now Virgin Money u could if really desperate for pound notes go to other banks other than original made by Clydesdale Bank since 2006 just before my mother died its been horrendous nightmare to get hold of them I failed to get them both for my mother and grandmother to bury them with few pound notes just like we did with my grandfather so instead added traditional silver and gold coins. Ebay has ton old English,Irish and Scottish money even new polymer money that recently came out some people can and will be so overly very very greedy which is one of the 7 deadly sins (all 7 in order are Pride, Greed, Wrath, Envy,Lust, Gluttony and Sloth in case anyone interested) I refuse to pay over the odds for something I no isn't worth it for everything like clothes, toys, gadgets, old money etc etc don't think antique and vintage shops that sell old coins and notes would even charge thousands for them research first by looking up history and decimal history page that will tell you true value of what it would cost in today's money love these websites as absolutely intriguing, interesting albeit little bewildered by mathematics of it.
Back to pound notes we also got given them as pocket money as well as given extra wen did odd jobs that's how we learnt by the meaning if you want something you have to earn it but to be just given 50p if u didn't behave and or you were too lazy felt magical in its self it made u proud and so grown up to point it boosted morel and confidence I remember helping my mother babysit the children next door there late father gave me two pounds said u earnt it and said one day it be you babysitting little ones sure enough I did babysit for them for ten years u couldn't do that in todays world by giving a child pound they most likely throw it back in your face with pure utter rage and disgust children of today's society expect far to much as well far too lazy with no life skills but I was brought up old fashioned way harsh strict discipline we learnt from very young age how to be independent etc this is wen my fascination in pound notes came about I use to have habit stuffing them in books even my Bible several years ago something made me check this book found about forty pounds in various notes spent scruffy ones kept neat ones this is why wen clearing out relatives houses u check very carefully every nook and cranny including books and under loose floorboards elderly especially are notorious for it even under mattress so anyone want old notes do some thing good for elderly friend or neighbour or relative unbeknownst to them and yourself be very surprised what u find along way also given history lesson if very good might let u have some of the treasures u find its also fun thing to do sorry for keep changing the subject my very severe disabilities makes it hard for me to express and understand things lose track

Not strictly correct. It was renamed after the person who first made it heared that the Houses of Parliament was serving it in one of its restaurants.

the one pound note has now been discontinued. we only use coins for 1 and 2 pound denominations. notes start at 5 pounds, which are now made of plastic.

The stick of rocks (things you called Brighton rocks) are normally a little gift we get our friends when we go to the seaside when we was younger, they are a classic little gift and part of English life here, we always got so happy when we got a stick of rock from our mates or we were bringing some home for our mates, the good times. Ps I have the England bucket hat, you should watch England vs Germany euros game tomorrow, its 5pm UK time on the 29th June, can't beat the football here. But I think you're a bit short on Henderson's Relish. You've had tomato ketchup and now HP Sauce, which is great because it's got a bit of a tang to it but isn't sweet like ketchup usually is. There used to be another when I was a kid called Chop Sauce, that I preferred to HP and that my Dad also loved. I'll see if it's still available and if it is I'll send you on a bottle with a bottle of Hendos (the Sheffield name for Henderson's Relish, which is a liquid sauce that is only made in Sheffield and is *TOTALLY* Fyah! I hope you'll like it. You can eat it on probably anything savoury. It goes well in soups and stews, tastes great on chips (or potato fries as you guys call them) and the British staple of chip shop fish or fish-cake and chips (with scraps, of course. If you manage to get over our side of the Pond you'll need to see if you can come to Sheffield for some of our fried fishy and chippy delicacies, with scraps and Hendos). And it's brilliant on cheese on toast (what you call "grilled cheese"?). Have a fab day! 😁👍

If that Liverpool shirt is the official one from that era, that’s over a £200 shirt, only if official though. One of the only Liverpool firsts I don’t own in my collection, a little jealous won’t lie.
£1 notes are common in Scotland but they’re pretty rare in England, only have had 3 in my life. (Collectible item now, as they’re discontinued forgot to add that part)

I like the flag display idea! If they don't have tags that you can easily look at when they're displayed, you might want to get some adhesive or iron on labels to put on the hem of the reverse side of the flag or you'll forget them all.
