  • Cold weather has kept us from knocking this out for a bit, so we rented a lift bay at Gearhead Workspace on the South Side of Chicago (near the White Sox ballpark). Very reasonable pricing too. We went with the RCI fuel tank skid to complement our RCI full aluminum skid package and RCI Steel A-arm skids. You'll hear us reference the JCR Offroad fuel skid video a couple times here for reference. TBH, both companies make amazing products and we've used them both for our old 5th gen 4Runner and now the new Bronco with no regrets. If you plan on using Steel skids regardless and your bronco comes with factory steel skids like mine did, I honestly wouldn't recommend upgrading to aftermarket steel fuel skid as the stock one is really good. For us, we wanted to drop some weight and negate some of the worry about corrosion since we live in the Midwest. Hope you all enjoy!

There are straps installed when the Bronco doesn't come with skid plates. The reason they aren't installed with the factory skid plate is because they use the same holes.

We need to get you a El Bronco Santa sticker for that new skid plate.👍

How has the RCI aluminum Fuel tank skid held up vs the OEM? I have a Wildtrak and need to add protection, but also keep the weight as minimal as possible. I’ll be doing more overlanding and trail running, not so much hardcore rockcrawling…

No issues at all. TBH, no one will see the scratches unless they crawl underneath. If you don’t mind paying a little more and want corrosion free and lighter weight, I think they’d be a perfect option for you. I had them on my old 4Runner as well and we had it in Moab as well as Ouray.

Looking at doing this as well - How difficult would it be to drop the gas tank?

If you don't strap it up prior to removing the stock skid, it will fall. The general rule of thumb is to have the least amount of gas in the tank as possible prior to doing this. The JCR video I linked in the description has a more detailed account on using the straps. I would not suggest dropping the fuel tank for this addition. I don't see an advantage in doing that.
