I got to meet Dennis Lehane at my university a few years back, super kind and friendly man. I mentioned this scene to him and he was pretty enthusiastic about telling stories about his time on Castle. According to him, he had a lot of fun filming these scenes.
I remember watching one of the episodes with my dad and gasped when James Patterson appeared. I’ve read some of his works because I like mysteries and thrillers.
Love these scenes! There were always the highlight of an episode. Really great to see talented authors on camera, playing a scene and discussing murder mysteries. Wish that there had been more of these scenes in the seven seasons of "Castle." Stephen J. Cannell, James Patterson, Michael Connelly, Dennis Lehane and Wes Craven.
Thanks for putting these scenes all in one place, Myles. They are one of the things which set Castle apart from other "cop shows" in the beginning. I wish they would use it more often. I remember reading where Nathan F was a bit nervous about meeting the famous authors...until shooting began, and he realized that these guys were now in HIS area of expertise.
My first James Patterson book was Violets are Blue, and started to get his books. London Bridges threw a curved ball as I read that one and another one when I was in hospital for a week and the nurses kept asking if I figured out the killer lol.
I'd love to know how they determined which authors to use. I know Cannell had been a family friend of the show's creator, but why Michael Connelly over, say, T. Jefferson Parker?
I wish they'd have been able to get Stephen King on for an episode. His cameo on SoA was creepy & funny. Also, that was a nice tribute to Stephen J. Cannell.
Apparently, James Patterson cranks them out pretty fast. In another episode, Martha tells Castle that Patterson will be late for the poker game, and Castle says he's probably going to use the time to write another book.

Who knew Michael Connelly's Bosch would be a big tv hit when this was filmed?
@@jjman533 At the time he already had Blood Work and Lincoln Lawyer filmed as movies. Amusingly enough both those books coexist with Bosch.
