Exercise and a lot of it helps create a stronger relationship. I start with exercise and i use their breed instincts against them, since border Collies are sensitive to motion i walk away from them when training them to come. I also ensure i don't call them to me for no reason, it also helps if you stagger step(pretend to run away, if you run they will chase you) So try calling them to come and start to run away and when they sprint to you make a game out of it and apply tons of love, Making it fun. Most people only call their dogs to them when they are leaving a park to which the B.C hasn't fully spent their energy or isnt ready to leave. Hope this helps.

Part of the reason city shelters are overrun with abandoned animals.

Hi fellow dog owner haha, a little advice would go a long way, basically im sort of a new dog owner as my uncle has left his patterdale terrier with me for the past year, currently, she is amazing off leash, stops on command, however simple comands like sit and lay down she doesnt quite get yet. Ive heard they are difficult for beginner dog owners given their stubborn and independent nature. Would you perhaps have any tips on steps i could make to get it in to her? Or as she is now an adult will it be highy unlikely i could train her as a basic level.
Spend your dogs energy first( at a dog park or swimming) Run out their energy fully, once they are tired ask them to do as you want, sit, lay down etc. Reward if so desired.
They love to run in front. But are so happy to have a command. Have a border Collie/McNabb he's a handful to say the least, but I wouldn't trade him in for the world.
My border collie wouldn't get a treat for something simple like coming back. It's like baking a cake for a high-school student when he was able to correctly calculate 10 + 5. Treats are for training and for the rare special moments like "I just wanted to give you a treat now." But my dog will hear from my voice when I'm happy with what he did.
Elsa, my late Aunt and Uncle's third collie lived with me. She wasn't trained so I tried to, and she rebelled against the regular commands. But then these worked: Sit was 'Park it', Down was 'Park your ass', 'Back up' was 'Reverse'. Elsa showed me why my Aunt and Uncle loved Border Collies.
An old trainer's trick to improve this recall. When they start getting close back up and keep backing until they catch up to you. They will run to you. Not walk.
When I see border collies it does make me wonder if they’re thinking to themselves when someone in authority will recognise how smart they are promote THEM to a position of responsibility and command! 🤔😜
My border collies are all raised to responsible/capable and independent of me. They are encouraged to find themselves and be what they are and not what i want them to be. I count on my dogs to show me "the way of the dog", as i have no idea what it means to be a dog.
With my golden retriever I have to pretend like I no longer love him and I don’t care if he runs away. Then he comes back… Basically the same as a small child. Regardless of how well behaved your dog is I would not walk him off leash in the city because someone could snatch him, another dog could attack him, or he could get hit by a car. Off leash walks are great though if you are at a park or field. Just be careful. After all that said he is a very well behaved good dog.
I am working with a Border Collie and another dog that is a wolf hybrid this week. The collie is a scheduled behavior modification for some issues. The wolf dog is a neighbor dog that keeps escaping. Off leash the collie acts like it’s following lead, but this is just it’s getting comfortable phase. It stays close and focuses on me due to a timid nature. This prevents the dog from actually enjoying activities and is the main reason for the visit. The wolf dog doesn’t really escape. He belonged to my neighbor and when my neighbor passed away his wife (widow) is now taking care of him. She is doing well with raising him with the exception of him getting loose. Which of course will end with the dog getting hurt or worse. When I track him he doesn’t flee and he doesn’t act scared. I really think this dog has been getting loose a lot more than the owners knew or know and was returning before they noticed. Anyway as for their differences the wolf and collie show very different behavior’s that are however seriously putting their safety at risk. The collie will spook and make a bad decision. The wolf is playing and makes bad decisions. Of the two the collie is the trickier to help. He is very soft. Communication should always be even, but in the real world every owner will put emphasis on a dangerous situation and right now the collie will spook and you can see it. The wolf is neutral. I do not think either animal has ever been abused. The collie actions appear to be more of behaviors that were never corrected.

Hey! Not so experienced dog owner here. I’m considering adopting a border collie someday, but I’m not sure how to properly deal with their high energy (had bad experiences before with energetic dogs), especially because there are practically no dog trainers where I live. Any advice?
In Spain off leash dogs are illegal... Becouse people doesn't educate them, and can't control them. Solution? Permanent leash, even in forests and crountry side paths. But dont worry, couse people still walks with off leash dogs and authorithies don't fine.
We have similar by-laws in Canada. I occasionally have run ins with the dog police, for the most part they don't bother us because they can see Daylight is well trained. People in my city (Vancouver , B.C.) have tried many times to petition the city to have off leash licenses for dog and people like me. As a side note, If being off leash wasn't beneficial to my dogs health and welfare then i wouldn't do it.
@@DayoDaylight That's what i call responsability. Pretty good idea actually. For example we are now forced to hire insurence for our dogs. It's fine i like it, but if they can regulate this, why not to introduce some license system for owners that can actually control their dogs off leash? BTW, i can't do it hahaha. My dog gets excited in a blink of an eye. But walks side me with leash pretty well and under control.

How old
Daylight is 3 in october 2023, she was just over a year old when this video was made.
Hey! Not so experienced dog owner here. I’m considering adopting a border collie someday, but I’m not sure how to properly deal with their high energy (had bad experiences before with energetic dogs), especially because there are practically no dog trainers where I live. Any advice?
Border Collies...i own them but i have never recommended them. Daylight gets 4 to 6 hours a day of exercise.(or more).
However, If you ever get a Border Collie i wish you two success !
No praise good boy or girl why ?
Watch more of her video's.
