Box Stock vs. Hopped Up - Getting Performance is Easier Than You Think

  • In this video we examine what some basic, inexpensive hop up parts can do to improve lap times and enjoyment for some popular factory set cars. Baseline factory cars were run just as they come out of the package. All the hopped up cars had improved tires. Some had better hubs. Several cars had improved magnet packages. The end result is that installing some simple parts can yield big performance gains.

      Nothing to attract the magnets so it's essentially like putting bags of sand in the trunk of a car. Dead weight. Whether it helps or not would depend on the tires and how slippery the track surface is. The weight would probably help with sticky tires on slippery track.

    Viper vs BSRT, since you have so much knowledge of these wonderful 1/64th scale cars. I'm trying to figure out what to buy. My son has quite a few impressive cars and no real ideas about what they are! I have an old Magnum 440-X2 running factory Cobalt traction magnets that I bought around 1993'ish, I have sanded the front tires and the rear tires. This car holds its own, but I have not yet ran it against Jr's fastest Neo car yet. What would you consider top of the line in the 1/64th scale cars? Or should I build up a car??? I know these are loaded questions! And there are many different types of answers, but an in general round about sort of answer. Or even a little heads up.

    • @riggenracer

      18 volts. Amps is whatever the cars draw. Amps is not really a controllable thing. The car draws the current, the current is not pushed into the car.

      @@BUILTLIGHTWOUNDTIGHT
      Current draw is a function of the voltage and the resistance of the car (armature).
      Remember Ohm's Law. V=IR, R=V/I, and the one that you want, I=V/R.
      He said he's running at 18V and I think he said he was running a 6 ohm arm in the last car (the Viper V-Spec).
      If I=V/R then that would be 18/6 = 3 Amps. Of course, that's not 3 Amps constant but 3 Amps peak.
      This is just a guess but I'd estimate that car pulls an average of around 1.5 to 2 Amps.

    do any slot cars replicate the progressive acceleration of a real engine I want to get my son a set but no way he could handle a car that does 0-350mph in a sec scaled speed.... He has a disability see he couldn't react to them speeds.

    • @riggenracer
      @riggenracer  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for the question. With your son's situation, I can't think of a quick solution. However, adjusting voltage down on any car reduces possible top speed. If you have a power supply that can adjust voltage, you can turn the volts down to where any car is easy to run.
