I almost died at age 26. My coworkers and boss watched me wither away while continuing to deny my requests for time off and to create space from covertly abusive colleagues. The pandemic saved me. Now, I treat work very differently and am continuing to shape my work life into forms that work for me.

I’m continuing this conversation in my community for educators. We have generations of black women who have sacrificed their lives for schools…. And has that really worked? 🤔. Excited that summit 22 gave me a concrete plan to move forward.

Thank you so much for this video! I’ve put so much focus into work and equating it to my value and feeling guilty when I’m tired to keep pushing through. Constantly chasing titles, certifications contemplating going back to school. It’s just so tiring. Sometimes I just want a break from it all and figure out what I really want.

This is your sign to do what you know you need to do.

I feel you. My family used to joke that I lived at work. I've always been the one to be the "first black woman" of many titles at my organization. I am three years in remission from brain cancer. God made me sit down and reflect. I no longer chase those titles. I have a second chance at life and I want to live...and relax.

I am in the clinical field as a Neonatal nurse practitioner . I do find it very difficult to see an option that would allow me to work remotely if it is not a career change😓. I continue to stay open and on the look out.

      Can you become a consultant?

    • @yanafelix187

@@equinoxdeleux it is quite unbelievable that you should mention consulting. I have been actively looking into it without any real breakthrough until 2 days ago! I just got my first NNP legal consulting client out of Illinois. I am so excited!
Even if in order to maintain my credibility as a consultant I have to continue to work some clinical hours, this is my own business. As my business grows I will be able to reduce my clinical hours to a minimum.

Get out. I was perfectly healthy last year and now I have pre-hypertension and diabetes. 😢 I’m working to reverse it, but don’t exit and don’t ignore that feeling.
