Best movie intro EVER. How many agree?
a lot of the comments are from people who were alive when he was around - hello from a younger prince fan! I'm 13 and I share my moms love of prince. we went to paisley park last year and it was so incredible. we also watched the purple rain movie together (I may have been a bit too young but it was still super good). I'm so glad my parents exposed me to artists like Prince, Queen, and David Bowie. 💜💜💜💜
Good job! Your Mom has introduced you to good music. I’m grateful you appreciate it, at your young age. That’s not something that’s very common anymore, makes me sad. My kids enjoy a vast array of incredible music they’d been subjected to since birth. I love that a great deal about my kids because they, like the variety of music, are well ‘rounded’ as adults. ❤️
Keep up the listening
Hello Prince fan, glad to meet you.😊....from someone alive when he was around.
I'm going to honor Prince by watching Purple Rain tonight
I don't always listen to Prince and the Revolution, but when I do so does my neighborhood.
Prince was a prodigy. When it came to music he was a genius. He was a kind, gentle man.
An amazing individual a true light worker of his time
Purple Rain is like The Wall. Both are rock operas about life. Both movies should be watched.
But Purple Rain is good.
@@Luiz.Campos That's like the lady who kissed the cow. Everybody has their own taste.
For me, The Wall is better just listened to. I've watched the movie several times, but it's my imagination and album that make the most impact. That's at least my personal impression.
The transition from Computer Blue to Darling Nikki is the best song to song change in history.
I’m 53 years old and have always been a hard core ‘metal head’. I have a few weaknesses, one of which has been Prince.
Can’t ignore good music. 🖤❤️🔥
Remember when I was in 7th grade and told my metalhead friends here in Portugal I really digged Prince... the look on their faces :D (I'm also a huge metalhead, by the way...)
I’m listening to this album right now 🤙🤙
Would Frank Sinatra have stood a chance in a musical talent contest against Prince? I highly doubt it. Because he wasn’t just a legendary singer, lacking the singing range that Prince had, but even though Prince was a brilliant multi instrumentalist and Frank Sinatra couldn’t play an instrument, Sinatra was a legendary arranger and conductor. So FS could manipulate music but not necessarily create it. What do you think 🤔?
Me too
Prince is the gold standard
I love guitars and used to only consider Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen and the like, but when I saw Prince do George Harrison's tribute playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" it finally sunk in that he was a talent. I watch that video frequently! RIP
Remember that Prince left his music as a reminder. Feeling emotional.
Put it back in the movie theaters for the new kids to enjoy!
If you don't mind me asking do you know where I can find the movie I never seen it before and I'm quite curious about it
@@Manasamafangirl U can go online and pay like 3.99 to see it I'm sure! But watch the movie it will change your life and your view of music forever!! Im serious💜
Very cool that this ran with no commercials.
It's like CZcams understands the importance somehow LOL
This album is SO ahead of it’s time.
Front to back, one of the best albums of all time.
You said it man!
Rest in the afterlife Prince
Your songs will live forever in our hearts.
Prince was a one man band. Talent out of this world. Heavy metal guy here.
Anyone who truly knows Prince and his genius is a pure music lover of all styles. Faithful headbanger back at you. Bless the Purple family. The Mozart of the ages. There will never be another. Welcome to the dawn. 💜
Glad some fellow headbangers appreciate this stuff.
Yes my gateway to metal, punk and new wave... obviously still listening to this

No other album brings out so many emotions. Feeling sad, angry, depressed, happy, crazy, etc. Prince has you covered in this album!
Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one... , Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world...
In this life...
You're on your own
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy . . .
I'm visiting Phoenix, Arizona from Louisville, Kentucky. Some of the family n I are on our way to Grand Canyon which is almost a five hour ride, long story short I don't care for the music these people 😂 are listening to. PRINCE WAS A PHENOMINAL PERSON, FLUIDITY OF HIS MUSIC WILL SPEAK FOR ITSELF FOR 1000 YEAR'S...!!!
The greatest year for music in history. PROOVE ME WRONG.
Can't be done. 1984 was legendary.

DAMMMM I wish I would have appreciated Computer Blue in my 80s youth days. I really missed out on a master piece of a song for alot of years.
This album is an artistic masterpiece. Every song is beautiful.
This wasn't just an album, movie and tour. It was a monument in Rock and Roll
One of my favorite albums ever! I loved being an 80s kid. Since my mom was in her early 20s when I was born we grew up together. I listened to ALL the great 80s artists and saw ALL the movies, some I shouldn't have but hey parents back then didn't care. LOL
“Purple Rain” the song is the most powerful song ever written in my humble opinion. Rip Prince 🙏
Purple Rain should ALWAYS be listened to as a complete album. 37 years after its release and it is still impossible to choose the best track on the album.
it's all about let's make it rock. shaky, powerful, ballad. the guy was a genious and could play with everything making it its own.

I believe Prince is the Paul McCartney of the GenX. He was a great musician, and master song writer. Extremely versatile and reflected his era with unmatched talent. Prince gave away more hits than some bands and groups ever created.
Hahahha mc cartney side by side with prince is just a boring english who sings
So the year was July 1984..I went to see the movie on Long Island New York. We viewed the movie 2 times that same day.. That's how impressed we were with the film. The music was popping because prior seeing the film,I had the music a month before. So it was so fun to watch the cohesive blend of the film in conjunction to this music I was listening to so intensively. I was left thinking . He did it. He transformed himself into a mega superstar. It just worked the whole package. Brilliant album. I was supporting his music since Controversy hit stores back in 81. I saw something in his movement back then. He didn't disappoint, Purple Rain is a culmination of all those very hardship days and nights the man put into the recording studio from 77 on until that point, He deserved every accolade for this masterpiece.
@. Garfield Harrison. I am actually new to the music of Prince. It is a great 👍 trip so far. I heard some of the singles earlier in life. As I became disconnected from the reality of my life I didn’t hear any of it. I began to bottom out in July 2008...In April 2021 I started to listen and 👂 these beautiful sounds coming out of my iPad. You, Garfield, have given a perfect assessment of Purple Rain ☔️. I applaud 👏 your effort.

One of, if not THE most underrated performers of all time. His guitar work was nothing short of phenomenal. He wrote the book on this genre. Definitely missing him. Another one gone much too soon.
Wonderfully said, thank you !!! Agree completely with everything you've said !!!
@@paulmorgan2948 Being a day-1 fan of Prince, Prince himself & his music have always been inspiring, intriguing, witty, & absolute in many ways 4 me. Here's a story what I mean 2 how Prince "played" with in various ways all at the same time, his song,music,lyrics,fans,joke,serious,message,etc... When this "Purple Rain" LP came out & hit the dance clubs there were as we know multiple hits, pretty much the entire album. At times Prince would play tricks in songs 2 see if fans were listening, really listening. I was listening 2 every word being a lyricist myself, yet others, who knows some may still not know? I'd be in the club, house on tilt, the DJ spins "I Would Die 4 U" I'd see couples on the dance floor or the bar copying Prince's hand gestures from the movie 2 each other. Having a great time, yet still had no idea the song was really about God, & a message from God threw Prince's song. That was part of Prince's genius, his tricky touches undercover by masking the message a bit by using 1 word like "Darlin" in the song "I Would Die 4 U" & changing up the beat to a dance groove, 2 accomplish his feat with a smile of happiness on his face. 2 Prince it wasn't about trying 2 convert anyone to God, it was about what he believe God wanted 4 us all. By being happy, & showing love 2 one another, not outside in the parking lot fighting over some BS! That was also Prince's mission & what he wanted 4 all of us too! Prince knowing that people around the world 4 a moment in time, was able 2 make people dance, love & were happy jamming together 2 his songs, also helped Prince complete his own destiny. ++Peace,Funk, & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul++ Keep on keeping on! "Happy New Year!"
80's pop music cannot be fucked with.
The creativity and totally awesome synth sounds are the best of any decade
yesss...I say that and I hear 70s...90s...80s sounds are where the early 70s synths were fully reaized...the optimism, ear candy, and new sounds of the 80s would never be equaled. 80s era pop is the most timeless
Yes sir!
Word up!
Well. This was something exceptional that has easily stood the test of time. A lot of that other stuff hasn't aged nearly as well.
lizzie rules ya bass
Thank you Prince! Last time I listened to this album with headphones was 1985...I was in SF General just recovering from a near fatal accident. I was 16 and literally was in a coma a few days earlier when my older brother made the 40 mile trip to visit me with my folks. At this point it was 50/50 if I was going to make it...no one told me that part. So my older brother was quiet and as he was walking out he handed me his 1984 Sony Walkman with this tape in it. I was a farm kid and didn't know Prince at all. I played that tape constantly for the next 20 days and nights! The sounds...the keyboard, piano, strings, bass, guitar, and vocals all distinct and perfect! I had never listened to stereo headphones before then...holy shit! A diet of am radio in my old farm truck just destroyed by this 43 minutes of brilliance! 35 years later my kids are watching Purple Rain the movie and asking if that was really how the 80's were at the end, and me not being able to answer because I am crying! Thank you Prince!

My Mum was the biggest Prince fan, ever. When he died, she was blasting his music louder than the DJ in the local venue. When she died (Jan 8th '23) her whole funeral was Prince themed, per request, nay, order! Everyone was in purple, Prince was all the music. She demanded Little Red Corvette be blasted from the Herse, as it was! Albeit with the odd funny look on the way to the crem. The symbol wreath was brilliant and the food was starfish shaped shortbread, coffee, maple syrup and jam. The order of service was made to be the insert from the Purple Rain album, with my mum riding his bike.
We were raised on Prince, I have his discography. But, this track was mine & my mum's Prince song from when I was ~4 years old. 30 years ago, seems like forever, and yet sadly nowhere near long enough!

Purple Rain and Thriller are the 2 most important albums of the 80s no daubt.
@@johnsonmark65 LOL! Thriller does not come close to The Clash's London Calling or to Talking Heads ‘Remain in Light’, U2's Joshua Tree, Springteen Born in the USA etc. even tough Quincy Jones is a genius. BTW Purple Rain is the most perfect album ever made, there's not a flaw in that album.
@@horrorpowerfilms9481 culturally wise, impact wise, popularity wise and even in terms of the sound it had, what album defined more the 80s than Thriller? Lol it was an absolute phenomenon regardless of if you like Jackson or not, literally the biggest album ever, MJ was the icon of the 80s, not even the biggest fan but it is what it is.....
@@johnsonmark65 Well as much as you trying to sound knowledgable, your mixing two totally different things, still I have I answer for both: FIRST. Thriller as "cultural wise" and "sound it had" does not match Prince's Sign O' The Times and Purple Rain (and like many critics said at the time not even 1999 album), BUT before going the obvious Prince route (subject of this video, not MJ), you might not know that REM, Talking Heads, The Smiths and The Clash had way more better reviews and better numbers on critics/experts lists of the best of the 80s then Thriller. SECOND. Thriller "impact wise" is just a mater of how many places, countries were forced to ship Thriller copies, Thriller was the album that was sold on malls, meaning you could stop by to get your sardines can and had Thriller on the same shelve at 5 bucks, so your so called "impact" is just MARKETING, people who bought Thriller din't even like music. BUT before you go all crazy, just think about it, you have no valid media data, no journalism proof, no names of experts/critics/articles that ever stated that Thriller had any "impact" other then sells. THIRD. It's sad that MJ Entertainment took the none-music buyer and brainwashed them with lies, half truths and false report sales, like the whole idea that MJ was the only artists with insane records. So you ended up with 99% of MJ fanatics quoting MJ press kits, MJ press videos and MJ team marketing tactics, still no fanatic dares to search for the truth because it hurts.
