  • I’ve now sold the M3 and bought this: • Porsche GT4 First Driv...
    In this video I discuss my ownership experience, thoughts on the F80/F82 platform, what it's like as a daily driver and much more! I also detail the running costs of the car.
    Not a typical review, but just me getting my thoughts out onto camera as if I was in the market for a well priced performance saloon, the M3 would definitely be my choice!

    More info on the M3:
    The M3 version of the F30 3 Series was designated the F80 and was produced from 2014 to 2018. The F80 M3 was powered by the BMW S55 twin-turbocharged straight-six engine, therefore being the first turbocharged M3 model. Despite the smaller displacement than the V8 engine used by the previous generation of M3, the switch from naturally aspirated engines to turbocharging resulted in peak power being increased from 309 to 317 kW (420 to 431 PS; 414 to 425 hp), and peak torque being increased from 400 to 550 N⋅m (295 to 406 lb⋅ft).
    The official 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) acceleration times are 3.9 seconds with the M-DCT transmission and 4.1 seconds with the manual transmission. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) but an optional M Driver's package raises this to 280 km/h (174 mph). The kerb weight is 1,621 kg (3,574 lb).
    The F80 M3 was unveiled, alongside the F82 M4 (its coupé counterpart), at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. In 2016, a Competition Package became available for the M3 and M4. Changes included an increase in power to 331 kW (450 PS; 444 hp), revised tuning of the electronic differential and the electronic stability control ("DSC"), suspension upgrades and new front seats. The official 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time was 4.0 seconds with the dual-clutch transmission.

    As an owner for 4 years I'm amazed at just how little scheduled maintenance these cars need. Also super reliable

    Really great comprehensive review! I’ve had my F82 Competition for 3.5 years and I have loved every minute. Still rock solid and not a single rattle. Great solid chassis but still very comfortable, in my opinion. I’ve done 8 cross country drives from Austin, Texas to Arizona and California and it is a super highway cruiser. Put everything on Efficient / Comfort and average ~ 27-29 mpg which I think is great given the car that it is. Agree in the Silverstone interior. I get soooooo many compliments! Michelin Pilot Sport 4s is the only way to go. Very quiet and the ride performance is very nice even with 20” low profile. Anyway, i totally agree with your opinions and I can’t recommend the BMW F8x enough!

    Awesome video! Watched the whole thing. Am looking into getting the M3 in the coming year🥳 Given your driving style, how you finding the rear wheels holding up? Which tyres you running? Thanks! 😬

    • @TARAN1
      @TARAN1  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks! You will not regret it, the cars is amazing to live with. The rear tyres held up pretty well to be fair, I ran Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the M3 and I wasn't doing many doughnuts or sliding about everywhere, so I didn't have to change them often. With the Pilot Sport 4S, the grip was amazing too and found the car to stick much more to the road in all conditions, even wet.

    You should upgrade to the black 2018 M3 seat logos, would look much better on that interior color

    I really appreciate your review!! Is it too firm a ride tho ? I had the older E36 saloon. It was my favourite car to date. Very close on getting a f80

    • @TARAN1
      @TARAN1  Před 2 lety

      I didn’t find the ride harsh at all in comfort mode, I’ve done 6 hour drives to Edinburgh and back without stopping and felt fine. When in Sport mode the suspension is extremely firm, you really feel the difference. You can also get aftermarket suspension that helps the ride out if it’s going to be more of a daily with passengers - I was always alone so didn’t mind the ride.

    when you say stock exhaust are you talking about base exhaust or m sport exhaust?

    • @TARAN1
      @TARAN1  Před 2 lety

      Base exhaust. In my opinion I wouldn’t pay for the M Sport unless it’s already on the car, if you’re looking to upgrade exhaust I’d go aftermarket for sure as they sound so much better.

    The thought that someone has been fiddling with it is a major turnoff. I wonder if there is a way to tell if it has ever been mapped?

      I had the BMW warranty in the first year. 2nd/3rd year I didn’t bother renewing it due to the price I was quoted, I took care of the car and never had any problems at all up to 60,000 miles+
