The first album in Yuan Sheng’s complete survey of Bach’s keyboard works bring together two major masterpieces, the much loved Italian Concerto and the substantial French overture, one of the most monumental and deeply searching Suites by Bach, in the tragic key of B minor. As a complement Sheng presents the 4 Duets and the delightful Aria and 10 variations in Italian Style. Yuan Sheng is one of the foremost pianists of China, his international career brings him to all continents. Equally at home on period instruments and themodern piano he has a keen ear for style. Try the Partitas with Sheng. Better recording I think. So buoyant. But this still is wonderful too. Same engineer I bet.

i think that's not true - many people would have already known his music - it just would've taken a few years longer without Mendelsohn and would have simply been someone else who would have 'rediscovered the genius blah blah blah'...

Delightful and sublime! Have loved all Yuan Sheng’s renditions of Bach (also Partitas, French Suites, Goldberg Variations so far... have I missed any other album?). So glad Bach did not stop or peak at Glenn Gould, who was brilliant.
