I agree...Im latino and lived in Virginia for many years and never had issues with racist folks ironically it happened to me soon after moving to Maryland.
I was in Lynchburg this weekend and I fell in love with it. Im seriously considering moving here not just for the slow pace of life but also for the quality healthcare an relatively low cost of housing versus up north in Maryland.
I miss living in Virginia 😭

Yes, there are probably a few areas with a lower cost of living than NOVA, Maryland, and DC areas. Of course, some people need to be certain places due to family or work. But, if you can choose...Lynchburg is a good place to choose.
If you need any help moving, or just discussing Lynchburg as an option, give me a call or text. 434-993-8776

I think a big pro you missed was the tons of places to eat around town. From bakeries to sandwich shops, pizza, burgers and more. Ethnic foods too. Maybe too many to choose from.

Great video. I grew up in Lynchburg, left for active duty military service for nine years before coming back for a year and moved to the Tidewater part of Virginia to live and work. I moved back to Lynchburg on January 2018 in large part to be closer to family and because much is happening in Lynchburg and it excites me. It’s good to be back.

An addition to downtown Lynchburg is Dukes Diner very good for breakfast!
Ms Joys bakery across the street from Dukes Diner you must stop and get a treat! Ms Joy is one of the best bakeries 🧁 She won a bakery competition on the Food Network for her cookies and design. Glazed donuts 🍩 are so good!

DEFINITELY film your flyfishing adventures, that would give much more exposure to the world of flyfishing that I personally am not very knowledgeable about. When you mentioned that we get all four seasons, I thought I was the only one who pointed that out in my discussion of Lynchburg to people who don’t live here.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Most of all, I am happy that you and your family have been welcomed in Lynchburg!
I laughed when I heard your son’s comments about how friendly people are in Lynchburg after coming from his hometown of Portland.
Like your stereotypical concerns about Lynchburg, I was thinking about my own stereotype of Portland being unfriendly after months of riots in 2020.
There are good people everywhere, and we have to fairly manage our expectations.
As you say, we can’t paint people with a broad brush.

Great video. I'd add a quick selling point for skiers/boarders is the 60-minute commute up to Wintergreen. Thanks to night skiing, you can leave work in the late afternoon, ski some runs and return before it's too late. It's not Snowshoe, but it's convenient.

We live in Raleigh and we've been in NC for over a decade. There was a lot of southern hospitality here. It's changed so much in the past 5 years. We visited VA a few months ago and remarked on how nice everyone was in Staunton. We might be visiting Lynchburg soon. 👍

Located in The Virginian Hotel is William and Henry steakhouse up scale food/drinks are very good 👍🏽 Also The Rooftop restaurant is on top floor of hotel good food and drinks.
No.7 Rooftop bar located at the top of new condos. View is nice 👍🏽 View is better than the Rooftop at The Virginian!

Regarding the Blackwater Trail. The entire paved Greenway is more than three miles when you consider the Hollins dam loop, the Amtrak station spur and Percivals Island.
    Another pro, a Kenneys restaurant.

Thank you! I’m moving from Florida (I’ve lived here all my life) to Lynchburg, Virginia, where my son is he went to liberty University there, but Florida is way too expensive anymore and crowded with a lot of crime. While my son was at liberty, I’ve visited many times to Lynchburg Virginia and I really love it but it seems like there’s a problem with finding rentals. I would love to rent a house but there’s so few??? I could consider buying and i will probably look you up, but my lease here isn’t up until November. Thanks for all the helpful information!

I agree about your last point but please let us know about the crime..... we are thinking of moving to Lynchburg..... very hard to do without multiple trips down to see properties and they fly off of the market... any suggestions?

    • @Living-In-Lynchburg-Virginia
      @Living-In-Lynchburg-Virginia  Před 3 lety +2

You are correct! It can be difficult to do remotely. I think I’m going to do a video on the crime and overall safety, at some point. Of course, there are some areas that are less desirable than others. (That’s true anywhere.)
But, for someone like you, I suggest we talk so I can understand what you’re looking for.... and I can then do some virtual things for you (live or recorded video)... and get details about specific areas.
      Give me a call sometime!

@@kelligreen9052 everyone’s definition of what a “good” area is…is different. I can tell you I think there are a few positive things about that area. You’re right between some good eating! 😉 Close to Blue Ridge Bagels…and Mister Goodies ice cream…and a Joe Beans coffee spot.
That also means you’re close to getting on 460 and getting to LU or downtown or heading towards Bedford.

JD what about jobs...how is the job market? median income?

    • @Living-In-Lynchburg-Virginia
      @Living-In-Lynchburg-Virginia  Před 3 lety

About $47K for a household and about $24K for an individual.
The job market is generally OPEN! ;) You can definitely find jobs. Places are looking for people. Of course, depending on the specific field you're looking at, it may be more limited.
I was just out to eat at one of my favorite places. They had a "limited menu" and I asked why. I was told they don't have enough staff to keep the full menu going! They are looking to hire, pay decently, have benefits as well, and are still having a hard time keeping a full staff.

I do know some people want to be a certain distance from a hospital, so that might be a consideration for you. But there are a few nice areas that would be very nice.

Some businesses still have signs up indicating you don’t need to wear a mask if you’ve been vaccinated. Businesses, overall, are getting back to what they use to be…as far as hours and seating, etc.
although staffing for many is an issue.

You know…they seem to change by the day, so it’s best to Google it to make sure I’m right. 😉
From my experience and what I’ve read, we are not requiring masks if vaccinated…but businesses may still require it.
Even during the height of Covid, I saw people in businesses without a mask. I’ve only witnessed one employee tell a patron they had to put a mask on.
I think I might say the restrictions have been appropriately loosened.

I’m also born and raised in Lynchburg Virginia and this is decent content. The “ everyone’s friendly” this is forfetched in my opinion. This landscape, nature, mountains, all that are BEAUTIFUL here.
My issue is why no one is covering the OBVIOUS racial tone that’s been hanging over the hillcity for over a century. Home of the biggest Christian university in the WORLD when the owner/faculty publicly supports racist view. This city has done a lot of prejudice things in its past and present. It’s home to me so it’s special. But I wouldn’t recommend anyone moving here without REALLY knowing the good and REALLY knowing the bad. Here a documentary of a place I used to work and their history. Knowledge is key. Be well informed.
