  • Lynchburg became a thriving city largely on the backs of enslaved people. It's a part of the history of the City of Lynchburg that many people don't even realize.
    Most of us picture the plantations we see in the movies, but slavery was also happening right here in Lynchburg, just in a different way.
    Now, the Silent Witnesses project is shining a light on an important, though painful part of Lynchburg's past.

    Black people weren't the only ones sold at auction don't forget about the red in the yellow and even some white in some states Freedom has never been free in America

      It was named after John lynch, maybe do some basic research??

      I think you need to do some research, John Lynch brother the one who was the real killer an the person the city was low key named after. He was the one who defied Washington orders an took it apon his own accord to LYNCH French soldiers he literally was the 1st person to assemble a mob for the sole purpose of flogging them he is the reason why the word Lynching was created and he was celebrated as a war hero, an you mean to tell me that a city was named after a nobody.

      It definitely was but, that is a part of US history. The truth of history should be told so that we can learn from it instead of manipulating history to continue to tear apart our country.

    Va has much history going back to civil war days iam from va and proud to be a virginian. Nothing wrong with the name lynchburg. This is history. Let that sink in.
