  • In this art tutorial video I use my extensive art teaching experience to show beginners how to draw in pen and ink by learning basic techniques in a simple step by step approach. The art tutorial explains how to start drawing with pen and ink by looking at drawing with three different types of pen and concentrating on Line. The tutorial uses simple can shapes as an example of the ink drawings. I explain hatching and cross hatching and try to inspire people into being bold with the use of the pen, to produce different types of line and not to use rules lines.
    Lines produced with an Edding pen, a dip pen and a sharpened stick are all explored. Each pen produces a different quality of line.The video is aimed at absolute beginners and those wishing to develop their drawing skills.
    You buy dip pens etc from: www.scribblers.co.uk/product-...

    Thank you! I’ve always been afraid of my lines not being straight enough but your video has helped me, I’m just gonna draw crooked lines and make that my individual style as of now

    Sometimes my depression makes it hard to focus, concentrate, make decisions, etc., so sometimes it takes me awhile to decide to do simple things like like a vid / subscribe to a channel. (Thankfully it's not affecting me so negatively in this term's computer classes at college. :))

    Great videos, I always wanted to learn to draw and your videos are great. I learned more from watching 3 of your videos than I did in an art class. Looking forward to the pen and ink series.

      That's great, I'm pleased you are learning from my videos. The next two pen and ink videos are very similar to this one but using different techniques, the fourth one will bring the techniques of the three videos together in one drawing. It will be a week or two before they are completed. Cheers Paul

    Thanks for the fabulous video! I love your philosophy about being loose and creating character and individuality with your lines/art. This reminds me very much of Chris Petri who teaches watercolor painting here on CZcams as well... He utilizes the same philosophy/techniques in his work and has beautiful results. You both are so talented! Looking forward to watching more of your content in the future, thanks so much!!!

    Thank you for sharing. Personally I think the way people draw lines is a matter of preference.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  Před 6 lety +1

      It certainly is, that was the point I was making. It's the people who use rulers to draw lines with that don't realise they are robbing the drawing of any individuality, because every ruled line looks like every other ruled line.

    Thank you for this! I am getting back into drawing and was using a dip pen. But I've not seen the amazing stick pen before. I'd love make one. Is there a tutorial for making one? It's not that I don't get the general idea of how to create one, but there might be some tip you could offer that would be helpful! Love your energy!

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  Před 3 lety +1

      No I don't have a video on how to make the stick pen. Just carve the end to be like a pen, maybe cutout a 'V' shape in the end too. Experiment, it will make all sorts of interesting marks.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  Před 4 lety +2

      Can you draw a curve? Don't think of them as handles think of them as shapes and draw the shape. Sometimes drawing it upside down helps to stop you thinking of handles.
