This song made me laugh out loud twice when I first heard it. The tongue in cheek MGMT energy is timeless. Sonically it’s gorgeous.
i let out the BIGGEST laugh during my first listen when i heard the most overused laugh track stock sound effect at the very end lol i've used that in comedy sketches multiple times and recognized it instantly... it's like the first result you get on here lol

I was worried after being underwhelmed by some of the singles, but boy does it feel nice to say that I was wrong! Such a damn good album!
Reminds me a bit of Flaming Lips, but of course MGMT make it their own unique sound. I love how they do that. There’s genres like rock, pop, jazz, then there’s just MGMT. ♥️

I think the album is decent. I think this track is amazing. It’s gut wrenching. It makes me tear up every time I listen to it.
There is something so utterly relatable about this disassociative disbelief, it’s so sad and almost comical. And it’s all communicated in this lush hook. Fuck.

And can you believe it, once again Pitchfork completely misses the point in their review : "Though it sports a couple of genuinely laugh-out-loud funny lyrics-the conversational frankness of “Here’s the thing about drugs” as the first line of a verse; the allusive specificity of “No one calls me the gangster of love” as an entry in the subsequent list of downsides-the tune simply isn’t robust enough to support the plodding melodrama of its arrangement, no matter how smartly it conveys the narcissistic bathos of addiction."
Thinking the best rated MGMT output in 17 is their Late Night Tales compilation...SMH...
They never got MGMT. Eventually every other outlet managed to get past their initial "Congratulations" trauma, but Pitchfork is still sticking to its guns like a MF. At this stage it's probably just to keep the meme going.
