- It's time to give you all a workshop walkaround to show you what we've currently got in the shop and update you on some of the builds, including:
Aston Martin
Maserati Ghibli
Mercedes 190SL
Porsche 356
VW Bus
Mini
Triumph Vitesse - restored by Paul Cull at Triumph Auto Classique www.triumphautos.co.uk
Porsche 912
Land Rover Defender
Ferrari Testarossa
Jensen Interceptor
VW Beetle - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I'm all for converting anything and everything; but even I would feel bad about stripping that beautiful Porsche!
Ahh, that Aston, British bruiser. Oh, what beautiful cars.
356… my personal favourite classic car
The beetle has retained the authentic squeaky boot action
Yep. I believe that was a factory fitted option. 😆👍
Although that Vitesse was from 1971, the last year of production, the tail fins date back to the very first Herald, which was introduced in 1959😎
You get some stunning cars coming through your workshop. Shows people trust your work with their pride and joy. I really enjoy your videos, very interesting.
Thank you very much!
Glad you like the channel 👍😀
Hey Moggs, what about converting the Triumph's wheel well into a hinged one, that opens from below. Then you could cross-brace the hole inside the boot, and place the batteries straight over it. Cut the well off underneath, and weld on a hinge and a clasp to secure it. Rubber edge seal. Job done.
4:59 I will watch this conversion with interest. Although likely heresy, the 356 Coupe might be the prettiest car ever designed.
That blue on the 912 is fantastic, a highlight unto itself of the video
I agree. 👍😀😀
I hope we get to see the Aston Martin and the Mercedes as a finished product, fully painted and interior. Both of them could look fantastic!
Great job guys! Love all your videos!
We are sure to do full episodes on both of those. 👍😀
Can't wait to hear that sweet V8 engine
Just love the attention to detail and engineering you have on these projects, that Aston underneath just looks superb.
Thanks 👍😀
I like the fact that many of the old designs run so well on a new power source. I wonder if it's because they were designed so well in the first place? They only had had pencils, paper and rulers but that Vitess could go for another twenty years - in which time all the components will have shrunk again, with more power. Well done you lot!
Thanks 👍😀
Hi guys, in the Porsche, for the heater valve you could connect the cable to a potentiometer and run the output to a controller to keep the interior completely original
Great idea. 👍
@@ElectricClassicCars btw, have you ever considered using polycarbonate for battery boxes to save weight? I'm thinking about this for my Spitfire
What an awesome place to work. Nice one!
Thanks 👍😀
Thanks a lot!
Only one thing I can say, Beautiful!
Your videos are truly addictive every time! I'm never disappointed!
Thanks. Glad you like the channel. 👍😀
Glad you like them!
Maserati I love those body lines
I guessed the Triumph Vitesse didn't have an engine in it with the excessive positive camber it had. Having owned a GT6 Mk3 about 25 years ago, I remember that the Herald/Vitesse/Spifire/GT6 have positive camber on the front and negative camber on the rear.
Now I'd love to see a GT-E6 Mk3 one day! 🙂
So many gorgeous cars. I want all of them!
Maserati Ghibli will be a passionate ride, hats off, my friend!
Cool 👍😀
The Aston Martin is my favourite out of those, because they have so much character, and electrifying it will transform its performance. But those mismatched tyres had my OCD in a spin. 😫 The Vitesse was a close second, purely because of the superb standard of restoration. More Triumphs need to be treated as nicely as that. Keep up the great work, guys. 🙂👍
Thanks for the Tour, such amazingly work and creativity
Glad you enjoyed it!
As an automotive engineering student, I've got to say I love the nerdy bits on these videos! Please keep them up!
Plenty more where that came from 👍😀
@@spudproductions7606 good news! 😁😁
I like both Porsche's. I'm a fan of 356's (especially a 356B Carrera 2000), but on this walk thru I'm going with Tim's choice, the gorgeous blue 912. Sure it's only a 4 cylinder 912 and not a 6 cylinder 911, but so is the 356.
Thank you guys for another great video!
Good choice. Finally Tim is coming around to German cars. 😉👍
Great choice sir. 👍👍👍😀😀😀
I think it’s a great choice because it will be a 0 cylinder soon anyway
The silver Porsche was one of the best looking of the lot. The conversion can only make it better.
Amazing work ! Hoping to see a Delica van one day in here ...
the 912 is beautiful! Nice color and leather combo!
Agree with that. 👍😀
Very hard choice but the BF Goodrich land rover . It's a bit special . keep smiling everyone
Love the way you keep as many of the original equipment and re-use it .
Always!
A very dear friend of mine had one of these 1957 oval-window VWs. I am VERY eager to watch you feature it in a future video! Chef’s kiss to your conversion of this car!🎉
Episode coming soon 👍😀
I'd love to see more details on the Aston rear subframe swap.
I have a soft spot for old Merc's, so that was my favourite of the tour
Really cool, Renovation of classic electric cars!
Nobody in the world does this!
Thank you for the Range Rover with an electric motor - you have a video, but very short!
I think this is how you need to revive, invigorate classic (old) cars looking to the future!
I love these guys, but they are certainly not the only outfit converting to electric!
If this is the future of classics then I definitely need a new hobby lol
I suggest you get Googling ... there are many others around the world.
Very enjoyable. Thanks. Jim Bell (Australia)
Glad you enjoyed it
A very neat conversion.
If there is a VW Beetle, there is no question what car is my favourite ;)
Beautiful cars - yes, I'm with Tim, the Porsche 912, but such a soft spot for them, especially the 356, there used to be a Porsche dealer near me when I was a kid, and I remember an old, Porsche with split rear screen, may have been a 356.
Porsche all the way!
Love your work 👍
Thank you! 👍
Which one though 👍😀
@@spudproductions7606 If pushed, the 356
I think I fancy the beige Land Rover... Seeing what you have done to your Land Rover, I'd love to have one of those rocket seat ejectors, looking like a farming machine...
I'll have the Jenson Interceptor please!
I've been in love with the Interceptor ever since a local garage had a FF Interceptor for sale. I used to fuel up company vans there so I got to have a look at it every other day for a few months. The more I saw it the more I loved it!
Makes sense that the Jensen lived at a petrol station with an mpg in single digits. 😆😉👍
Yeah and that V8 burble is fantastic, really suits the cars character
Love the Testarossa
The 356 is definitely on my top 5 favorite EVs. gorgeous.
Mine too!
I'd have to go with the 356 as well. It's such a beautiful looking car on the outside
This is the best thing to happen to classic cars, PURE AWESOMENESS.
Far from, if you have ever driven one.
@@wackaircaftmechanic2312
Wondering why?
@@Terrathrax The original feeling of the engine and transmission working together and slowly climbing in RPMs is something the electric conversions can’t give you at all.
The Mercedes 190SL is the one for me. (And surprised it hasn't more votes.)
The Porsche is looking really nice 👍… ja ja ja … 😂
Thank you
You're welcome
Interested to know more on the lower power mini conversion.
Love the colour on the Mini shell. Badly Dehydrated Wee, I think it was called.
😂😂
Man, that Maserati is cool!
Very cool 👍😀
Definitely. 👍👍👍
The Aston is probably my favorite but that BF Goodrich pickup is going to be amazing. I like to see you blokes weep when you see how much money the 110 fetches here in the states...haha...
Once again a top quality and entertaining episode, with some awesome cars ready to be converted. I hope some of the conversations are part of the tv show. 👍👍
Thanks. 👍😀
I tried to watch a program like this on TV, almost reduced me to tears watching them put leccy motors in a 308 Ferrari, and I don't even like Ferraris that much lol
Porsche 356 as well then Testarossa 2nd pick.
Good choice. 👍😀
Give that man an OBE for services to road transport
If this is the future of classics then it's time for me to find a new hobby lol
Thanks! (again 😊)
My favourite car, in the workshop, was/is the 190sl.
Beautiful lines, convertible and a good cruiser. One of my favourite classic cars....
Can you do a full episode on that one? Please!
Yep. We'll definitely do a full episode on that when it's finished. 👍
@@ElectricClassicCars Thanks!
I'd definitely go with the 356, those are among my favorite European cars.
Maybe you should design a circular battery pack to fit into the spare wheel cavity. Yes it is small but putting a battery in spare wheel well could be neat. A modern tyre inflation kit should suffice in case of punctures.
Now THAT is a good idea. 👍👍👍
errr no, put a spare wheel in tyre kits are crap and pointless.
ive had 4 new cars all no spares and 11 punctures on motorways tyre falls to bits aa have to take you to multiple garage till they physically find a tyre as computers lie amd say there in stock. 11.5 hours to get home from a 2hr 20mins trip last one.
not have a spare wheel on type approval should be illegal
@@ElectricClassicCars Put the spare wheel on top of the boot , Very 60s
A modern tyre inflation kits are terrible, (if its the goo stuff). the guy that will take your tyre off will hatre your for it. but also they arent very good, they make a mess of the tyre, the tyre fitting machine and the person removing the tyre. A spare tyre is far superior in every single way apart from sapce, but as all cars tend to have a spare wheel cavity its a none issue.
@@Brurgh My 2016 car was supplied with a tyre inflator and some puncture kit and no spare tyre. Have never ever used it since I bought the car six years ago. Btw my car does have a spare wheel well which is filled with the factory Bose sound system.
Fits like a glove 😃
Electric countach? Up the shell?????
I think that Prova (?) came with the unit ,when they moved in....🙄🤪
It's on the "I'll get around to it one day" shelf. 😆👍
@Electric Classic Cars at least your, one day shelf, is quite empty...
Other way around in my garage 😬🤦♂️
The Aston Martin is the big win for me. Full subframe swaps don't suit many vehicles but for efficiency and capability it's the way to go for performance builds if you can make one fit. It's almost art work under there with those cables. I assume you will also be putting on matching tyres on the Aston LOL. Well done boys.
Thanks. The wheels and tyres on the Aston at the moment are just there to roll the car around in the workshop, they are not the final setup. 👍
I'd sooner walk than swap the engine in an Aston for a poxy electric motor, completely ruins the car, it's no longer an Aston Martin, more like an Aston Indesit lol
@@Markcain268 Maybe they should call it a DV8?
As an owner of an electric car and of some classic cars, I cannot decide whether you are saving these cars or ruining them. I wish I lived closer so I could come and see.
For my part…I believe Mr. Morgan is improving classics and making them more relevant to drive daily. The totally-restored, pristine-condition classic cars seem meant to suffer silently in warehouses and museums. Their value has turned them into paintings and sculptures on wheels. That’s fine as far as it goes…which isn’t far. Power-mad politicians want us to give up our classic cars. Mr. Morgan and his ilk allow us to thumb our collective noses at these authoritarian dictators. At least…until ALL cars are taken from us…😂😅
You would have to drive one before you were able to make that decision. 👍😀
To find a truly straight untouched classic is about as common as rocking horse 💩.
I've had cars from the thirties to the 70's, most with some kind of alterations. Back in those days they weren't classics so were used and altered to owners choice. Almost none are factory fresh.
Hi! Richard. There is a company called Amprius. Their battery has 2x more capacity than the batteries usually used in electric cars. Thought it would be interesting for you.
All of the cars could make anyone’s favorite pick. I’m still going with the Jensen. Although, a close second is the VW oval. I’d love to see a Ferrari Pininfarina classic conversion. Fantastic job! Onwards and upwards!
I'd love a jensen for that fantastic, huge yank V8, I would never even consider swapping it for an electric motor, might as well just buy a new ev and be done with it
Magníficas conversões 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Meu projeto favorito Defender Blue🤩🤩🤩.Congratulations, beautiful work! Talk Três Cachoeiras/RS - BRAZIL
He converts an E Type on another video, great guy.
If I lived near by I'd volunteer my time just to be around all those very neat cars. My loss.
That’s why we started the CZcams channel, to share the wonderful cars with others. 👍😀
I love it! To make an Aston better you need to put model 3 bits in it :)
The quality of the Triumph resto was fantastic, I'm waiting to see the finished Jensen Intersepter alwayss loved them. :) cheers.
You and me both!
Keep watching for updates and a full test drive. 👍😀
@@spudproductions7606 Will do. 😃
Yeah, I love the big V8 in the jensen, wouldn't be the same without it
I like an Audi A2, and will love to se one converted to electric with a small Tesla in the front and 100 Kw battery pack and fast charging, it will be very useful for Daly driving 😉
Hey Electric Car Classics. Can you begin on converting cars from the 2000s? Not just because they're getting on 23 years old now, but that there's a beneficial awareness if more "newer cars" can be converted. The reliable city cars like Yarises, Micras, 500s and Pandas that people still rely on.
Ferrari Testarossa👍
Teslarosa for the look.
The Jensen 😍
I love the smaller cars. Out of interest, could you guys do a kit with a smaller motor that can fit in cars' transmission tunnel or in place of the diff? That seems like quite a bit of weight that could be removed and you'd be saving space in the engine bay for batteries or storage, making it a bit more practical.
Have you guys had interest to convert a Fiat X1/9 or Toyota MR2? That seems like you could put a really small motor in there and have a fun little car which handles really well.
Cool 👏
I think you need to do a video on the V2X. For me its a killer feature that I can't wait to see available.
How will it connect when at home? Does it work using the DC connection to the battery and a suitable high voltage inverter/charger like the Fox unit? or is it working the on board charger hard?
We will be doing a full V2X episode in the future. 👍😀
The Jensen for me, looks like it is one of the only ones with a rear seat for the kiddos (that is not a Land Rover).
Good choice. 👍
I know I keep asking but I would love to see you guys convert a 710 M Pinzgauer. Thanks for the videos.
Maybe one day!
If you could do a Mercedes 600 Grosser or particularly a Citroen DS with its hyrdoneumatic suspension and inboard disc brakes. That would be very interesting 😍😍 also because the minuscule 1.9 liter engine was never that fitting for a car that important. 👍🏽😍👍🏽😍 that would be great.
That would be cool
@@ElectricClassicCars pls pls pls 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I'm sure they would design a conversion if you had a DS and were prepared to come up with the cash!
I LIKED both of the Porsches. The body styles and interiors always appealed to me. MY one Porsche was a great road car...except that the engine sound went from being 'music' to being noise as the miles and hours rolled on.
I think a lot of drivers eventually come to the same conclusion on the noise. 👍
Aston Martin, need to see finished car
The 356, however i'm still clinging onto petrol and would personally leave as is... Love the whole electric idea, and would add a 300hp classic mini alongside the 1380 Cooper (funds permitting), which is all about the noise and drama, and will i make it home? . Loved the video
Thanks 👍😀
A while ago I chose Jensen Interceptor as favorite, and even it is only a 2 doors 4 seater it still attracts me the most: a rare mix of GT flaire with decent practicality and muscle car in pure European/British apperance with sexiest rear end of all of them.
Oh I love those, the V8 engine really sells it to me, without that it would be nothing in my eyes lol
@@Markcain268 The old ones rear wheel drive were pretty unreliable thus they decided to convert to EV. There is a new remanufactured limited edition very recently of the rare long bonnet FF 4WD/AWD version with ready for emissions Chevrolet engine with more than 500 horsepower, all the amenities of today: blutooth, touchscreen, air conditioning and so on. Those will not get converted soon. Harry's garage CZcams channel has a video posted 2 years ago driving one of those beasts.
@@nevco8774 I'd sooner spend the money on tuning and sorting out reliability problems, a jenesen interceptor without a vocal V8 is not something I would want, same as an ac cobra replica with a four cylinder engine, it's just not on for me lol
@@Markcain268 Watch Harry's garage video and his impressions about that supercharged V8 GM powertrain first!
@@nevco8774 yes, that would be an option, but in such a car, I would, ideally, like to keep everything original as possible, have the engine rebuilt with modern seals etc, gearbox too, and some period tuning to that beefy V8 lol
I would love to see you do classic old rolls royce...great stuff richard
That would be cool 👍😀
Great suggestion!
Very suitable for a luxury car, wouldn't want it in a sports car though
The White Defender
Loving the workshop tour and all the beautiful cars I can't afford.
Will there be a Vintage Voltage series 3?
Not sure yet
Teslarossa, Aston Martin with that sweet m3 subframe bolted in. Then the time attack monster beetle.
Last maybe the 944 conversions you did a video on a while back. 👍🏻😎
Have you guys ever lent an ear to the idea of buying a complete road worthy say awd m3 and pulling the body off it.
Then swap on the outer body of a classic?
Or like some have done on other ev swap channels make a custom tube frame that can directly accept the whole entire tesla battery pack's underneath and also bolt on the stock tesla suspension motors brakes etc. 🤔
I’m with Tim, the 912 (in perfect Blue/Tan combo!) for me, followed closely by the 356 then the Beetle.
Question:
If a person wants to keep shifting gears it looks like the Hyper9 is the answer. Is there a different motor with a few more beans(hp) available? An electric 912 with 4-speed and 160-200hp would be perfect!
Another dream car of mine would be a 356 Coupe Replica from JPS Motorsports with EV power. All the beauty and nimbleness of a 356 without worrying about the ridiculous value! I sure wish someone would make a 911/912 Replica, but I’m afraid Stuttgart would frown on that endeavor.
The Aston Martin makes me wonder if the owner looked over his list of favorite classic cars until he matched one ( the Aston) to the track width of the Tesla motor/sub-frame. It’s brilliant!
Thanks for a highly enjoyable update!
Thanks 👍😀
@@spudproductions7606 You’re welcome! Any ideas about a Hyper9 alternative with 50% more power?
Have you converted an E-Type Jaguar yet?
That would be my favourite. :)
"Front and back" its not a ship 😅
bloody nice builds tho really loving the work you guys do
Thanks 👍😀
I could eat that Beetle, it’s gorgeous! Is the Tesla small unit detuned?
Yes, definitely detuned on that Oval. 👍
really appreciate for the subtitle. so sorry but my ears are not familiar with your accent, so this subs really help me a lot to understand your explanations.
Keep developing EV conversion kits! Hopefully you have one for a Suzuki Samurai/Jimny or Toyota land cruisers soon!
That's the plan!
when are you doing more TV especially with the cars you have in now.
i really have a hard time watching this channel. almost every time the i wanna have factor is just to big
No kidding
It's more cringe for me, like taking the works out of an old Swiss watch and replacing it with a cheap quartz movement
@@Markcain268 what can you do if the cheap quartz needs less maintenance and does the job everytime you need it.
@@Ruudi05 yes, you can do it, reduces its value and any interest folk may have in it, but if you want a worthless clock, then go ahead
@rob allen These are the classics that will actually get used and just work when they do. There will be plenty of originals that sit in museums for you to look at.
Thank you very for the tour, this is an excellent idea.
I'm wondering if you are going to protect the cables under the Aston with a cover?
Yes, there's a cover plate that goes over the whole of the exhaust tunnel. 👍
Aston Martin install series please please please.
The 356 is gorgeous. I guess the lower power engine will give it more range for the batteries on the other hand?
I guess I'm a bigger fan still of the Beetle, and this one looks sublime.
That Countach body in the background tho...
As with an ICE engine (but surely more so) if you're gentle with the right foot, you can be economical even with a powerful engine/motor. My guess is choice of less powerful motor was to save weight, size, cost, or stress on the rest of the drivetrain. Maybe Richard would be kind enough to enlighten us.
If driven flat out then yes it would have more range than a more powerful motor but in normal driving there won't be any difference. The more powerful electric motors are not less efficient for a given output unlike petrol engines of yesteryear.
Love your videos. I have a couple of classics and would consider converting my P38 Range Rover. I think I will email you.
Good idea. 👍😂
In my opinion there are certain vehicles are that are so rare that it's just sacrilege to modify away from how they came from the factory, the Maserati, the Jensen, the Vitesse and especially the 356A are such vehicles 😢
That's why their conversions allow for the original engine and drive train to be refitted in the future.
The 356 takes it for me. What a beauty.
I do have a question for you guys. You use a lot of single-motor drive trains. Is it a communications/synchronization issue or something that has you not opting for in-wheel motor systems?
In wheel motors simply have too many disadvantages which is why no major manufacturer have gone that route.
