Everything worked, except it would boot back to the windows installer even after installing it. Tried restarting a few times and I deleted the cd drive that was in the devices list already and then it worked. Needed to restart once more though but I saw progress. But don't delete the device you added, as you need another driver from that cd drive later for the internet connection. Thanks a bunch for making this!! It worked beautifully
Thanks for helping me get through this process! Way too tedious for an average joe like myself but that's what you get when you don't get a Synology box for 10x the price :)
Have you considered upgrading to Scale? I'm interested in doing that but I don't have another NAS to backup all of my files to and don't want to lose anything. Maybe you have some thoughts/directions.
hi love the vid but im getting a UEFI error, shell then comes up i type exit and them the boot menu is unreadable like the gfx card is on its way out but its a vm lol
Did you use the newest version of virtio drivers? Or did you use the 0.125? Becauce when i try to install the virtio drivers for storage the VNC looses connection instantly and it doesnt connect back up
This is a fantastic guide thank you. However I have a question. I update the driver, however I am not getting a connection. I get an error on troubleshooting diagnosis. 'Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS Server) is not responding'. Any idea what I have done wrong?
Way late reply, but yes. After the first reboot, I found it was booting back into the install media. So I went into devices, deleted the CDROM with the install iso and restarted the VM and it continued with the installation.
thank you so much!
in a million years i would not have thought of adding a second cdrom to use drivers. thank you very much

Great video, thank you so much for the clear and concise tutorial!
This was awesome. Worked perfectly... Used the latest virtio drivers as well (your link is not the latest, but easy enough to find)
Works perfectly, thanks !
Thank you so much, Brent, for the great tutorial. It was very helpful!!

You have to set the resolution of the vnc to 800x600 or 640x480, you go to devices then at vnc edit and set lower resolution.
for me do not work start shell windows!

@@jjerreno use the virtio .125 drivers worked for me, everythings working good
@@deividasspuris8342 sure ? v 0.1.217 don't run with me...
@@jjerreno not working?
@@deividasspuris8342 no, lost connection with VNC by run installing Windows... I think WitrIO drivers depend hardware too...

great guide only reccomendation is to get the newer iso for virt drivers "virtio-win-0.1.229.iso" helps with the vnc disconnect
after starting the vm, vnc wont connect...
Performance on my E5-2650 is unusable. What have others found?
This is a V1 CPU? It's pretty old, look into upgrading the CPU to a newer one. Maybe a V3 or V4 but you'll need a new board that supports it.
how to connect to windows? remote desktop?
I have no " VNC "
And now?
This sucks
That's installing from an ISO. How does one install if one has a *.win image file?
Good video. Simple and understandable.
Doesn't one need to boot the VM with Windows PE, and then use that booted environment to install the operating system from the image?
do we uninstall the boot drive with the iso on it ?
