"That excites me more than it should." Sometimes it's the little joys in life that are the most satisfying...
That’s very true lotta people don’t learn that in life that the little things are usually the best things!
The best tings in life is for free. But still is the debt to high!
Yeaaaaaaa
Did he say joys , or toys? Works either way, I say.
Looks like good ole beast Matt👍👍

She's a keeper for sure. 💖
Lucky Matt. 👍👏
Which one ????? Truck or Wife Lol

Gotta love Autocar, used more or less the same cabs for 30ish years. Man that's clean, though, and all the body lines are all parallel to each other, that's just nuts. Even on an Autocar, which tend to be beefy, that's really something. Nobody beat up this truck *at all* and it shows.
I've been watching a lot of your videos from putting up your machine shed to the Autocar. Just gotta love it. Watching you fix old things, making them work, you just don't see any more. I've been a mechanic all my life, so it is easy to identify with the thrill you get from a cold start to swinging your boom truck. I've been retired for a while and don't have the muscle to do these things so watching you brings back great memories. Good luck, be safe and enjoy.
"Go buy the truck"... Your wife is a gem😁. Awsome truck and a very exiting video, ...Thank you Matt!!!
MS30 is a 30 ton winch. Owned several of them on my winch tractors that I moved oil drilling rigs with. Great winches.
This whole truck is a serious piece of hardware. It's built heavy for the class of truck it is.
@@scdevon heavy survives, weak dies
I like the big funnel top for your oil collection tote, My concern is there is no lid to keep the rain and other debris off the screen and out of the oil. So It needs some sort of lid preferably a raised top lid to keep it covered while the old filters drain.
Over the Top Sylvester Stallone movie where he has a cable weight lifting station in his semi.
Came here looking for while happen to see the movie on right now...hey! I remember seeing this truck recently 😁
When I was a kid, some 70 years ago, I always liked the Autocar more than any other semi! The feeling now is still the same.
Me too but those Mack bulldogs on the hood really impressed me too !
At 69 now, I still would love to have one but I hear they are very in demand and pricey. 🙄
I was also very excited to see your waste oil drain tank and the "funnel" that goes on top of the bulk storage tank. Great to see that Fluidall is filling this need. 30+ years ago, my shop foreman fabricated a couple of drain carts that looked very similar to yours and we would then pump them into a central shop drain tank that we would pump in to a 1500 gallon double wall tank located outside of the shop. Used a Wilton diaphragm pump mounted on the inside tank to move the oils. The outside tank then fed our waste oil heater. Really eliminated all of the waste oil handling problems.
You new truck will be a very rewarding project.
Is that ZZ Top playing?
Matt, although not shown, hope you covered the flash funnel with a plastic or rubber cover from mother nature!?
Matt, so happy you were able to get this truck. I'm looking forward to the videos of you spending time fixing it up. Also, I'm so glad no one was rude enough to dislike the video (over 35K likes - 0 dislikes). Keep keep up the great work, and we will keep on supporting you. Best wishes.
Love how excited you got about the oil funnel and oil container. I hope you have a cover for the large container to keep water and debris out. I love the setup, heck if it were me I would be finding things to change oil in now like crazy, just to use it.
I wondered how you kept the rain/snow out of it? A cover or a roof over it?
In NZ the UV kills the white plastic if it isn't kept out of the sun.
A leak on the emergency side of a rear brake chamber can show up as a leak on the relay valve & at the tractor park valve. Block off the emergency line to each chamber to diagnose before you go throwing valves at it.
It’s so rare to see somebody who appreciates old equipment but that also uses it as intended. You, for example, wants to fix up this old truck to get it ready to work while so many would probably have it just as a lawn ornament
I think it's a SWPA thing
@@timsziminski2461 A what?
I wouldn't make it a lawn ornament no matter what else I planned to do with it. Static display is not where _any_ vehicle belongs.

5:20 you should keep your oil tank under a roof, with this new device in the top you cannot avoid rain water runnig into the tank.
1/2 sheet of plywood should do the trick
@ 30:00 you can see a cover on it in the top left
That setup with the trailer and dragline boom hanging over the cab would make a great attraction at some of the old iron shows/meets you go to. It'd be great to see you get the recognition you deserve on preserving these old workhorses and keeping them in service.
Thanks again for all the work on camera angles and edits, I don't think many people realise how much effort you must put into each and every video - and isn't even your main job!
I wish they still made vehicles like this!.. tough, practical and reliable!!
You and me both, and probably a whole bunch of other guys!
Look up Tatra trucks.
Autocar still makes trucks
I believe mack had better pr but auto cars were built heavier !
It just sounds like somebody do not like the Newer emission engine trucks they are better for the environment
I run a rock crusher down here in Florida. We use a Cummins 855. And I'm telling you that engine is wonderful. We run at about $1,800 to 1900 RPMs for six to seven hours feeding that thing rocks and it's also running a large three-phase 440 generator at the same time. Long as you keep your filters clean it doesn't care
There you go, Matt !! You got yourself a really sweet deal !!
You hit a home run with this truck! and after seeing your Fluid Load system I'm as equally impressed. that is exciting! Love what you do.
That semi has some serious mad Max vibes about it for some reason 😂 love that funnel, guessing you've probably thought of this but you'd need a roof over that IBC tote if you were to leave that funnel in place or it'll be one heck of a mess after some good rain!
Eva says it ok to buy. You need to get that young lady a piece of Jewelry!
Shhhh shhh keep your voice down!!
Just keep her car running.
She gets the best seat in the cab!

I honestly love seeing all the tune ups but I can’t wait to see this truck get all fixed up and getting used ASAP.
I love the oil drain system! Truck seems to run and drive good! I love the name- "Constructor" it's like a Transformer. Glad you're keeping it! That one deserves to get some love. I love the tires, and Auto Cars always had class with the interiors even in the most simple work trucks.
Truly amazing how clean she is considering it was a work horse. Great rescue!
I love the waste oil upgrades! I would make a roof or cover for your oil tank and new giant funnel....you don’t want to come back after a rain storm to see your oil tank full of water and oil mix. Keep up the good work on keeping old equipment alive! Love the new auto car! Can’t wait to see it on the road again!
I like the drain pan and funnel! Might wanna put a cover or roof over the funnel to keep the rain out!
For some reason I completely love this 80 Autocar. I can't figure out what draws me to it but I love it's color and sytle. I am so glad you rescue old equipment and give it a second life!
I’ve got an 88 international 9370 with an 855 in it, 400 from the factory but I did a new pump, injectors, duel fuel lines, all new soft lines, turbo, manifold, pretty much everything to turn it up, and the thing runs great, starts right up when it’s 20 degrees out (like 3 cranks) any colder than that and I plug it in, but it just surprises me how well it fires up, especially because I have it turned up…nice lookin truck by the way!
Hey Matt, this video was "Over the Top"! That's one badass rig you've got yourself. Can't wait to see all the work on it. 👍
Just brilliant, Mat. Looking forward to seeing this "Bad Boy" all cleaned up and ready to go "down the road".
Wow! That truck brings back memories. I worked as a mechanic and spent almost all of my time on trucks like that.
The Cummins NTC 230 is a great engine. Never had a problem with it.
Should be very easy to get parts for it. Don't mind me, I'm the kind of guy that would restore it to almost new condition.
Best of luck with it!
That Autocar truck looks like the one in that movie over the top with Sylvester Stallone.
If you’re careful when you remove the frame extension, you can probably fit the proper tail roller. With that and a “power tower” for your winch, you should be able to manipulate a scissor-neck lowboy. Those can still be found in pretty fair shape for attractive prices. If a permanent pintle hitch interferes with the roller, you could have a removable one that plugs into a square tube hitch. Square tube hitches are available up to 3inches and 30,000 lbs. now I believe. You can just shim that down for smaller loads. Maybe if you run at 50 to 60 thousand lbs., you can make it up hills at 40 mph? It’s too nice to run in the winter in the rust belt. Maybe next spring or summer, you can haul something for me. Keep working on it, item by item. Take care.
Hey Matt ! The truck reminds me of that cool old truck that Stallone had in the movie Over the Top
I referenced that in there 🤘🏼🤣
@@DieselCreek 👍👍
@@DieselCreek I sent that before I saw the reference

When Matt does those shots of the big grill coming at you, it also reminds me of the Steven Spielberg cult classic "Duel" starring Dennis Weaver, butthat was a Peterbilt.
I liked this intro a lot. Better than the speeding vehicle driving over a camera. This intro shows the property and your improvements made to it.
I love how happy you get every time an engine starts. I bet you smile when your engine starts in your daily driver. Not to the extent of the big stuff but you smile don't you?
Going back and re-watching these...both to enjoy and to see how far you have come in so many ways. Keep going in your great content.

That's a purdy truck! Lots of character that's for certain! Can't wait to see it restored. Thanks for sharing.
Holy moly what a rig!!!
Shes a beaut!
Nice!👍
Matt those older Autocars were just beasts back in their day. They were well built and powerful.
My dad had a 58 Autocar here on the ranch in Montana, with a 400 Cummings, used it to haul cattle.
Great video!👍👌🍻🇺🇸🇸🇪
Absolutely loved this vid Mat. The sheer joy you express is like a little boy on Christmas morning opening his presents under the tree!
Yuuup !!
Very nice Truck ! When I was about 10 I helped my Dad and Grandfather mount a wrecker body to a truck just like that. Lots of memories I drilled all the bolts holes in the frame. Great trucks for heavy loads , a work horse.
That trailer is an M172A1. It is rated for 25 ton at 30 mph on highway when behind an M52 truck. I have hauled 15 tons (Cat DV100 Deuce or Cat D6K) @ 50 mph reliably. It was designed to haul bulk material (stake pockets sized to hold 4×4 posts) and heavy equipment was an after thought since there are no places to store wheel covers or ramps. If I had one of those, I would add folding ramps to that trailer.
This truck right here is the poster child for your channel! It's beautiful AS IS! The only thing you should do is slap a couple of Diesel Creek stickers on the doors, paint the rims bright white, and put a chrome turn on the exhaust. Put a clear coat to protect what's left of the paint but this is a beautiful rat rod of a semi. Congratulations!
Matt, Some of the early Cummins engines had a compression release that made for easier starting. Hunt around in there and maybe you'll find it, or maybe you could add it on. The backwards gear shift location was a set up by Eaton as an "overdrive" transmission. I noticed that there was also an air lock out for running in "Deep Reduction". That'll give that ol' girl some grunt! Am very interested in seeing this on future videos... and the grader too! Stay safe!!
My buddies Autocars were all cement trucks, they had a compression release by the front valve cover on left side with linkage with a cable that ran into the cab by the key that you pulled
@@paulmollise1856 by the time the 855 was made batteries and starter motors have gotten powerful enough that compression release is not necessary
@@wildcoyote34 correct!!
@@wildcoyote34 thinking back the one news with the compression release were 72 model Autocars small cam 855s, later ones he had with the Big Cams didn’t have them, that was a long time ago! Haha
@@paulmollise1856 Yep. I drove them as old as mid 70s and none had compression release.
I really admire that lovely shot of the Autocar coming down the sunny lane. Great video!
That is a sweet old truck. And fits your fleet to perfection.
Matt It's that excitement you feel as your mind goes through all the possibilities of your new acquisition that gives you the incentive to do all the work you need to to bring each piece to the standard you need it to be. Those who don't understand have never experienced it. They are usually the Dreamers as opposed to us Doers. Thank you Mrs you are so good to our friend Matt.
I love the truck. Badass for sure. It’s amazing the condition it is in for a 1980. It’s 80% complete IMO. It just needs some minor TLC, paint and new chrome and it will look like new. Put some LED headlights and work lights on it and get that front bumper cleaned up and covered with rhino guard would look awesome. It’s a real head turner.
41 years old and it doesn't give a shit, it'll still work like the day it rolled off the line
No car these days would last past 20 years, this diesel would last long after Matt's gone if maintained well
Normally I'd agree with you but I just don't like LEDs on vintage trucks. Upgrade the wiring harness to the headlights and it'll be nice and bright with new ones of course
@@dougc190 safety over opinions halogen bulbs just arent that bright especially these auto car ones its better he has leds so no accidents happen
@@TylerDuysen I still disagree with the LED headlights as a trucker I get sick to death of LEDs blinding you is you're rolling down the road and it takes forever for your eyes to come back. I've driven 359.79 and 89 so round headlights square headlights and projector beams all halogen. All perfectly fine for running 75 80 in Northern Nevada and Northern Arizona, no need the vaporized the driver coming at me with LEDs
I've had to start wearing yellow glasses at night because of people with LEDs so no I'm not a fan of them at all and I don't think they're any safer when they blind that other driver
How do you avoid gathering a bunch of rain water into that fluid all funnel on the 330 gal tank?
Great oil capture setup... I wonder if you could install another quick connect on the big funnel overlay or of the top side of your tote for the hose to plug directly in to for the rolling oil pan to connect to. Might make it a little easier and not have ot worry with the hose falling off the top of the funnel overlay. Great set up !
I love the angle of the exhaust stack. It has a certain ‘character’ like a cartoon truck. I think it fits the Autocar look, that ‘look’ like nothing can stop me.
that Autocar sure is a gem!! starting to have a pretty nice collection of classic heavy equipment over there, good job Matt!
That is a pretty cool thing. I kind of thought a shower pan would work as well. Large, designed to put water into the middle, and you could lay it on top. Maybe your next one.
Edit - Wait, isn't it odd that a truck arrives at your yard, but it runs and moves too?
2nd Edit - Holy Crap. That truck is a BEAST! That should have been the villain in Maximum Overdrive!
Over the Top op, Matt! Over the Top! Thank you for all your efforts to keep me entertained. Loving the channel.
Way cool channel you have here. Just ran across it. The memories working around some of this equipment brings a smile to my face. Watching someone go through some of the same things I have lets me know that I do possess more knowledge than I realized. I've laid down some years just like some of that old steel .
Congratulations on the "new" Autocar, Matt! I'm looking forward to seeing you bring her up to road worthiness. That truck should enable you to make some good money on jobs that you wouldn't have been able to take prior to having the muscle to transport your heavy iron. I'm happy for you, my friend!
I started watching your channel a year or so ago because it reminded me of my “formative” years(50+ago). We lived on a couple different farms and could never afford newer equipment. Between my grandfathers and dad I learned about hydraulics, pneumatics, etc, and how to salvage parts to keep our old machines running. They weren’t shiny but they worked. It’s nice to see you keeping these beasts running.
I’ve seen 855s with 700 thousand plus miles. Awesome engine!
You know Matt, it doesn't take much to make a man happy. Reducing the stress of a mess from oil Clean-ups and a upgraded funnel to figure out where to drain things is all part of one less things to think about. As far as the Auto Car trucks that 80 is nice and the 57 is one to do a little at a time to make a nice piece to be proud of one day.
Howdy Matt! This is my first time commenting but I love your channel. I used to work for my uncle who did farm drainage where we used a lot of heavy equipment. This Autocar is a sweet ride. The old Autocar is what drew me into your channel. My grandpa had a 1973 Autocar they used to haul our equipment. I've always been a huge fan of them. Thanks for sharing your old iron with us.
Can't wait to see Eva wrangling that puppy down the road. She's a gem. She has the heart of a trucker.
I'd love to have a sweet ol' rig like this, congrats 😀 . Love the "over the top" reference 😋
Every time I watch your videos, I get the urge to play Snowrunner... Love your videos man, think I seen you hauling a skidsteer with your dump truck a few months ago when I was over in PA hualing an Amish crew and trailer before the weather turned cold.
You just love old equipment, don't you? 😀Keep the good work!
Very Cool Truck Matt! I love how she looks with the old paint on there and that front bumper, what a beast. Great find.
It's great to see you so excited Matt, good purchase!
When I worked in the oil patch in the 1970's we needed something to move concrete slabs that we placed Cat Industrial Engines, and Chicago Pneumatic gas compressors, piping, pressure vessels, etc. around the yard and in and out of the shop. The driver weighed almost 400 pounds, nicknamed "Heavy" and the truck had a flat bed with a large roller at the back. Heavy would back up, hang a cable bridle around the welded ears of the slab, winch the slab over the roller until the bridle came as close to the winch as possible. When the truck was lifting the slab, the front wheels usually came off the ground until the center of gravity moved over the back wheels then the truck would gently set its front wheels down. There wasn't much weight on the wheels, because if Heavy tried to turn too short, they would just skid. That old Autocar never failed, though there were a couple of times we had to have a bunch of guys hang onto the front bumper to get the wheels down. Brings back a lot of good memories. The animal that ate the driver's seat is the driver sliding in and out moving heavy equipment for short distances.
You have hit a nerve my friend, these are my all time favorite trucks, can't wait to watch this one
😎👍🏼👍🏼
Matt, you’ve got yourself a world class woman. Keep her!

You just gave me a new definition of "spotless". If I am not mistaken, this is one of the few truck you show that actually running. Have fun, don't forget Kristine.
So good of you to fix that oilproblem in a professional way, keep the ground clean and the trees happy, Happy Tree Hugger!!
The dash is in excellent shape! Take good care of it, those plastic parts are extremely hard to find. I think that’s a Braden M30 winch. Look on the gear-side above the main shaft to confirm.
I always say, it's the little things in life that excite me the most.
Be it neat gadgets or a tool you didn't know existed and start using all the time.
That’s one sweet old rig! And yes I got the reference with the weights,
OVER THE TOP! Good movie.
It's the little things that makes me as mechanic smile. That giant screen is awesome. The transmission on that truck reminds me of a Spicer Transmission from a Deuce and a Half from the 70s
I worked on the strip mines in west Virginia and Kentucky for 25 years, double frame was the only way to go, nothing on strip mines but lots of mud and muck, that explains all the caked on muck. Just an FYI, you'll want to get all that caked on muck off, it holds moisture and causes lots of rust underneath. Just from my experience. Cool find though. Congratulations
Great video!! A friendly bit of advice- make sure you can get rear wheels off hubs before going too far. Those Dayton hubs were notorious for wheels rusting to hubs. Take em off wire wheel the hub flats. A lot easier to do near the shop vs along the roadside!! Just be careful of tires. If they are weather checked they may not stand up to hwy speeds. You can see mfg dates on them and go from there. Enjoy the new (to you) truck!!
Matt has already had an experience with the Dayton hubs in a previous video as I recall.
They can be a shit at times...... But he's young enough though 😉😉🤣
Those winches are monsters, ours had a high and low range on our yard truck, we used the winch to change steer tires in the pit, hooked it to a d11 and picked the front end up off the ground
Good thing there's still some guys out there who saves the classic trucks.
And with that oil container you also could do hydraulic oil changes with that capacity.
That engine at 1000RPM+ music to my ears. What a fantastic buy! some DC TLC and it'll be one sweet addition to the collection Matt :D
I (having spent my entire career in factories) am unreasonably excited about the fact that someone makes a drain funnel specifically for totes.
Big kid and his toys love it. Really like the older trucks they look so much better then modern ones nice job👍👍
I love the look of those autocars! And the exhaust note is perfect
Diesel Creek scores Big Time. New Dimension has now been added. " How we gonna keep him down on the farm ...."
Is there a cover for the drain oil tank to keep rain out?
When Matt took the turntable off you can see he covered it with "Something" in the background.
Thanks Matt, you just made me realize how old I am. I drove one when it was new. The truck I drove was a dump truck. It had a 400 Cummins and was a strong truck. Awesome find, you can’t kill it! Ohh weights in the truck: The movie “Over the Top”. Six spokes on the back tires usually means 44,000lb axels. They may have been changes.
I love your Autocar! I would be putting a headache rack behind that cab if you're planning on using that winch...protects you and your cab..my uncle was killed by a winch cable.
Yep. That’s on my list
@@DieselCreek everytime I see an Autocar tractor truck, it reminds me of the movie Over the Top with Sylvester Stallone.
I had a 1967 W900 with a 335 Cummins and compression release for cold starts, every 855 should have that. You spin it until you hit 40 lbs. oil pressure, drop the handle and away it would go. Great content, and attitude.
Matt, it's nice to see you excited about this truck, I'm sure I would be also if I was in a similar situation because it looks like a great one. Also glad you found such a practical solution to the oil issues. Good for you!

That is a beautiful beast. Wish they still built them like that.
The silver "glitter" when you stirred the oil, and you know that whatever this oil came from, worked hard 😉

Great trucks, I drove one of these in Scotland in 1973 at Mcdermotts oil fabrication yard in Ardersier. We had 3 of them all brand new with another one added in the late 80,s. They were called winch trucks and were all fitted with a/frames with the same winches and could lift 5 tons. 2 of the originals were still running in 1999 but consider this, the yard operated 24 hours a day 7days a week. we also had a couple of ford 9000,s and they were indestructable as well.
Matt that's NICE! I like it, it's old, made of iron and it has it's own atmosphere. Can't wait to see what you do to it to make it yours. The guy you bought it from did you right, he tossed in an old Holland 5th-Wheel, what a guy. You're walking around on Cloud nine with big old grin on your face.
