  • Who knows what the first turbojet powered fighter was?
    Me 262-Nope
    ME 163-Nope
How about the Heinkel 162, nope, not that one either.
well, it was German, and it was a machine from Heinkel, the Heinkel He 280. Many people have probably never heard of it, because it never entered production, even though quite a few were built and flew. The reason it wasn't taken into service were partly due to politics and the fact that the engine it had had a lot of problems. If it weren't for the political problems, Heinkel probably could have gotten funding so they could fix the engine problems. It was not the first aircraft to fly under turbojet power, that was another aircraft from Heinkel, the He 178, which wasn't designed for military purposes. If Ernst Heinkel would have got the support to work out the problems with the engines, it could have been bad news for the Allies, it could have given the Luftwaffe long-term air superiority over Europe, and stop the Allied bombing campaign before it even started. But since none of that ever happened then it is just a big what if, but I would not call the He 280 a what if aircraft though because 9 prototypes were built and some of them did fly, so it wasn't just a project on paper, which I would refer to them more as what-if than something that a prototype was made for.
Anyways, this is a nice model kit, a lot of extras inside, and you dont even really need any other AM for it because everything is already inside. I would definitely recommend this kit, even if it is a bit pricey though (80+ Euro)
