You know what MD? I was thinking, you can do a simple salt water tank, without corals, but with sand and Sea Weed. Not as pretty as a reef based one, but as a bridge between. Well, I think you did one before, silly me.
As someone with chronic health issues I find your content so relaxing and such a great distraction. I reckon I speak for everybody when I say we'd happily even watch a video of you guys feeding the various tanks.
This is exactly how I found MD because of needing to relax and recover
Thank you and glad to be of service. Feeding video coming up...
@@MDFishTanks PSYCHED. Absolutely loving your chemistry with Matt too.
@@MDFishTanks awesome keep it coming, this is also the reason I now have 4 tanks and when my mum visited questioned if I was watching my fish therapy
Keep up the good work 2024 is going to be great
I totally agree. My dogs are so used to your voice now they all just chill out next to me when I'm watching or listening to your content 🙌❤️
You should make a second channel where the vids are just an hour of footage of a tank close up to fill the screen, with some chill music like you do at the end of each build. Totally would just run that on my TV when doing chores around the house
Don't even need to make a new channel, it would be show on this one
A playlist of this would be amazing!
“This isn’t going to be the sort of tank that’s always changing”
You’re in for a treat lol that tank will look a little different every day.
I started with 6 Multis about a year ago and have close to ~200 now. They’ve had 2 tank upgrades in the last year. Very fun fish to keep.
That was my first thought about the tall rocks as I have a few roundish river rocks that are big they move daily
They're going to need more shells eventually. More mansions!
I say this in pretty much every video, but I really wish we had superfish and maidenhead aquatics in the US
Some Maidenhead’s are better than others, Matt’s old branch and the cadburys branch are much better than most!
I like my local fish stores for fish, but the Superfish tanks and lights I am quite envious of
When your bonsai grows out you’re going to have a style called “root over rock.” Should be very interesting! & your ability to keep peace lilies alive is amazing lol, they can be sooooo fussy in a pot and you’ve managed to keep them in an aquarium!!! Good work 🪴.
at 37:18 that fish is definietely a "Similis" shell dweller (neolamprologus Similis). You can tell because the stripes go past the gill plate onto its forehead. You way want to remove it to prevent crossbredding with the Multis. Similis can also be quite darker than the multis as well.
Some Ficus species have sap that can be dangerous for animals. None in here in the end but maybe something to look into further if anyone is feeling inspired. Lovely tank, MD and Matt :)
Same with crystals in Pothos. In general it's not recommended to leave it's leaves in the water.
The crystals ate oxalic acid - typical with Philodendrons, Monstera, Pothos - most aroids. I think that's more of an issue with mammals - cats and dogs chewing the leaves than fish. MTC @@PaulZyCZ
You guys work well together and Matt is very patient. Really enjoy the content.
I've never even heard of shell dwelling fish! Very cool setup!
2 mins in and I had to pause to say a couple things:
THANK YOU for keeping the goofy bits in.... life isnt perfect... peoples minds wander and I love to see I'm not alone in that...
Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH for always being so awesome with y'all's spiders!!! That little baby went on a long journey from that high ceiling... y'all do an amazing job at respecting the sweet 8 legged babies
he disrupted the spider... then the plastic was popped.... please tell me the spider is ok
"I like it alooooot" Y'all are great. I wish there was a way for me to share my tank with you guys, everyone compares it to how you guys create yours.
I really enjoy your playfulness and shared excitement. I'm glad you leave all that fun stuff in when you edit!
Man, this channel is addictive!
I'm older now but I'm getting back into fishkeeping and have some health limitations, so will just be able to do a couple of nano tanks, and I can see that at least one planted tank is a must do. I first thought I only wanted reef tanks, but this channel has given me a whole new appreciation for freshwater.
Thank you, weird fish guys. 😆
Love how different this tank is to normal! Shows off the hobby well. Think im gonna try a small peace lily in with my shrimp tank
I love how you two create your own words 😅 Vocabulary by MD and Matt 😂
There’s just something about a good Shellie tank….I absolutely love these fish. ❤
I like how you make a shell dweller tank and have mostly rock in there. lol
Escargot shells from ebay or a providor work a treat and are quite affordable. The more shells the less aggression from the females. Awesome fish. I watch mine for ages all the time.
I would trim the flowers off the lilies so they don't waste energy and adapt to the new environment faster.
i love that you guys both love tanks as much as each other. Must be nice to have a friend to connect with in this hobby.
Hi md,
About the cartridges on the hang on the back filter from superfish you can also open it (look at the clamps on the sides) and put another filtermedia inside. Saves a lot of money🙊 with love from the Netherlands
Love you guys! You’re responsible for me going crazy in my house with more and more tanks. My family has given up om me. I’d like to see you do a huge scape, with a real waterlily that’ll in time, bloom on the suface and lots of cool small fish. Clean scape but lots of green. 😍
haha, you're not alone! I'm now a betta enthusiast, diff setups for each, and my fam is done with me 😂😂
Like how the hob filter is designed with the lighting placement in mind so you can put the filter on the side of the back instead of the back. Wish more companies does that
I'm kinda missing the few minutes at the end of the video where you show off the tank with some nice camera shots.
I agree. Need more "zen" time at the end to just watch the tank.
Peace Lilies are great for aquariums, as long as you do not submerge them completely. In my experience, if you submerge them completely, they only last about six months or so. But if at least the top half of the plant are out of the water, they'll pretty much last for years if not decades, they are marsh plants after all. I think it holds true for all marsh plants that grow partially in water in nature.
Also, the tank looks amazing. I can't wait to see it when the fish have settled in properly.
It's kind of funny how MD has gone from "my wife doesn't like any of the aquatic plants sticking out above the water, she thinks it looks messy" to "Matt and I want a plant growing out the top of every tank" 😂
@@MrVovansim The advantage of having a studio is that you can do stuff there you can't do at home. :)
matt was such a great addition to the team! amazing video per usual.
Matt having to conform to setups like walking in with the plant is so funny reminds me of my mum trying to take pictures of us
Shellies? Was wondering what you were talking about? Crabs?
Fishes! Cool stuff.
You guys should consider using 1-inch gravel filler, contained by the big rocks, to support the plants and make a substrate for their roots. Also, "Airplants don't look real, anyway" is part of their charm! I have a collection of them, and a guy I know asked, "Are they real?" so I gave one to him. You are funny, but you work well together.
Great tank guys! I got 4 multis in Nov at a local fish auction after wanting them for a while. Absolutely love these fish. They're so cute and those blue eyes😍
This tank turned out so beautiful yet so simple. I absolutely love shell dwellers! And I always love a trip to Maidenhead Aquatics!
This is what I miss, the trip to the fish shop. I liked the whole setup and fish shopping experience. Please do more somehow.
I've loved shellys since seeing a tank set up with them several years ago. I'm so pleased you guys have set up a tank for them in the studio! They are so very interesting! Looking forward to seeing how they re-landscape their tank to suit themselves. Thanks MD and Matt, for another fun video.
Just had a new King - how kind of Matt to be in royal purple! And what a regal fashion to carry his hair - much appreciated! Thanks a lot, blokes! Grateful thanks from Denmark ❤🤗 🇩🇰🇬🇱
Matt throwing MD off in the intro is simply hilarious LMAO
what a beautiful design! such a minimalistic and calm tank, great job putting it together
This is awesome ive been preping a reptile tank to be a shallow shellie tank to
ive been wanting to see that for ages!! love shellies!!
Your videos always brighten my day! Thank you so much for constantly bringing the content!
I love the spider part 😂❤
Turned out amazing MD and Matt makes me miss keeping Shell-dwellers. Keep up the amazing landscaping, love seeing the channel grow along with the size of the studio, crazy you use to do this in a shed.
I love shellies! I have a tank for similis that have bred like crazy. Breaking that tank and my others for a long move but can't wait to give them a go again!
great teamwork, awesome set ups ,
Wow! I love this tank, great vid guys, can't wait to see how these critters do 🙂
Beautiful tank, as always! Thank you so much for all inspiration you give me
Darker ones are male with more distinct lines there’s maybe 3 obvious males in that sale tank ..3 males and maybe 5 or 6 females is good. Looks like you scored 2 big really dark males 😊 I’ve never seen such dark males ever. Looks so great
perfect video for me today as I'v just brought home some piece Lillys to put in my tank, great content lads
So exciting to see how this channel develops! Love the dynamic you have! 🌿
I was recently given a ficus to try and use in a shallow setup. I haven’t done it yet, but I think sometime this spring I’ll give it a go.
Always love your content, i always find new idea for my aquarium from your video
Another gorgeous aquarium!!! I love it!!!😊😊😊
I love this tank! The Shellies are so cool looking and I love seeing them in the shells. I will definitely have a go at this at some point, it’s nice to have a variety of tank types. 😢Great video, lots of laughs. Thank you.
Great vid, I love Tangs that's all i keep! Normally you put the rocks in first due to the shellies digging, sometimes they can collapse your structure. Can't wait to see the update :)
when you were removing the soil from the first plant. i heard my mom say " men are just boys who happen to grow ". I chuckled a little. love this video.
Great content guys!! Looking forward to your jelly fish tank Matt! Very exciting stuff!
That’s a great little tank
beautiful tank
As you keep expanding your collection and trying out more new stuff, I’d love to see you try out that newt palidarium you had set up back in the day !
Peace Lily is my fave
You can put the little tree in a little more. The roots actually start a bit higher where you called it “wood”
I've been watching your channel for a couple months now as I have 2 small tanks going and am planning a third 40gal. I've been going back through your old videos for inspiration and just came across the abandoned newt build from almost 4 years ago at the beginning of COVID. I'd love to see a new newt build! The one you did was really pretty and seemed approachable, and I've been wanting fire belly newts for longer than I've wanted fish/shrimp. Plus, it'd be awesome to finally see newts in a build of yours, it was a shame you couldn't find any at the time. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're more available now. Anyway, love the channel, y'all are very relaxing during the dark cold winter, and I find myself entertained and informed in equal measure.
That's looking really cool! Much better than y our previous attempt with the shellies, I think the shallowness of this tank really helps. I think I'm gonna give it a try as well if I can find those kind of fish around here and if I can get a good shallow tank, but for now I'm enjoying the new whiptail catfish I just got in for my main tank😄
I bought my first ever shell dwellers around maidenhead aquatics 20 years ago. Makes me feel super old
Amazing content and so inspiring. You and matt make my day when a nee vid comes out feels like hanging with friends lol you guys are so real and fun great energy!❤
Love it
I’ve got new tank that I’ve placed where a giant potted peace lily used to be (it’s out in the sunroom now). I sort of miss having the peace lily in the house but the place it was was the only place that made sense for a fish tank plus it likes the added sun of the sunroom. I’m now thinking of plopping some smaller peace lilies in the tank
Hey MD, love your videos. Been watching for about two years now, and actually, learning what aquascaping is from you is what got me into the hobby. I never miss your videos, but also there are some other really great channels out there. Would love to see you collab with green aqua where you tackle some of the other styles like a brazilian-style scape or those intense landscape IAPLC kind of builds. Just a thought. Keep up the great work! Absolutely love that Matt is a regular now
You guys are so funny. So creative and clever too. Another brilliant video
this is the perfect size for where I want to put my first planted tank. hope I can get one shipped to the Isle of Man
more shells needed
Nice effort there . Great to see you both doing something a little different and with some very unique species . Gotta do a bamboo type tank guys !!!!!
Yea I like that boys- well done simple and easy x 😊😊
❤it thanks guys from🇦🇺
My favourite CZcams channel by far
Really cool Thank, I have some Experience with shell dwellers en the can get stuck in the really small shell's, I lost a few so i only use the escargot shells now.
Can't wait for that one Matt.
Could you do some videos on the maintenance side of fishtanks. love the builds but I know a lot of people love the "after the build" type videos!
Now I kind of want to do a shell dweller tank. Oh boy! Lol
I usually go by the creek and get my hardscaping stuff for free and I live in Alabama so we got a lot of cool Stones here
One of my favorites channels :)
I really love your videos.
15 quid each!! Blimey, I give mine away they breed so much!
Really wish Superfish shipped or had dealers in the U.S. We really don't have an equivalent. Affordable and quality would be so nice.
Very nice! Gina
Waiting for the monster tank 😍
Are you going to be putting a sponge filter on the intake? You'll need one if you planning on letting them breed. You might also put in some more shells.
I think you must start a podcast. Not only aquarium thinks but just you talking about "things" xD
AquaGuys Podcast :p
Don't be surprised if you find a bunch of bare glass on the floor. They really appreciate a thicker sandbed. I have mine in a standard 29 gallon, started with a 3 inch sand bed. I still have bare glass in some spots and 6-8 inch depth in others.
Also I started with about 24 shells, and they buried all but 5.
You should take some shots like one a week or something and see how they scape it over time. Would be fun to see the compilation!!! Lovely tank, works great, the rocks are impressive on their own. I hope you don't scrub algae off the rocks though if there will be any
Looking forward to see this tank in a month
Bravo 🎉
Hello from us! It’s funny in a good way how you guys are including the behind the scene of content 😂 Love the videos guys keep it up 🫶🏼
nice to see you visit the Swedish embasy :)
Also the way you said ikea is very close to the way we say it in sweden
Coooool video thanks for sharing
you definitely already have ideas but a 8ft river tank with a few smaller trout and grow them out in it and they could be kept with sunfish or anything really they are quite chill fish but they like current
You should make a planted goldfish tank next.
Awesome video
Trumpet snails will stimulate your fish and keep you sand clean as well.
Lift the lid of the hang on the back filter and put some plants roots in the filter, grows like grass🤩
Beautiful! Maybe give them more (big) shells. In the wild they live on a thick layer of shells. (At their specific habitat you cant see the bottom of the lake because of the layer of the shells.
Nice
