They end it pretty definitively. The game ends and a message pops up saying "Ethan's story is over". Also if you think about it, even if Ethan wasn't killed by the explosion he wouldn't be able to survive without the mutamycete since it was the only reason he was still "alive"

the only boss fights i missed were the beneviento gardener and the valorac alpha. i remember hearing the alpha once i got back to the village and just immediately said “nope!”. i didn’t see the grave gate open for the beneviento treasure, so i missed out on that completely. in my second run through i’m going to fight all of the bosses

This feels more like if a Castlevania: Lords of Shadow spin-off took influence from Resident Evil 4’s gameplay than an actual Resident Evil game.
Imo this felt a lot like the first silent hill mixed with RE4.
