  • Are you looking to move on to using software for your bead designs and patterns? Here’s part 1 of a review of BeadTool4. What should you look for when designing your own bead patterns on the computer. I give you an overview.
    At the time of publication of this video, BeadTool4 was available for both Mac and Windows operating systems. Part 2 will show a little more in depth for large designs.
    As a little freebie, you can go to my Facebook (@lucy.hughes.9883), Instagram (@lucy.hughes.pmp) or Twitter page (@LucyPMP) (posted October 2018) and copy the image for the patterns at any time, you can see that I have designed some decorations for Christmas and you can have a go at making them yourself. Make them bigger if you want or chose your own colours or create your own designs.

    I love your video, the delivery of it. Especially the "sinister" comment. I DO wish someone could do a complete video, from start to finish, how each tool works, perhaps through an actual design using all the tools available (for us knuckleheads). Ex: I imported an image of a butterfly I'd beaded, then slid the graph over it (the colors were so off (dark), even by lightening it up, that I had to recreate it by hand onto the chart). Then when I tried to preview it, it printed over to 2 pages. I then tried to add columns but all that did was give me extra columns to the right, it didn't reposition the butterfly. I didn't want to increase the columns in the middle of the body, obviously. I've been beading for years but I have no patience for this tool. This is just one of the so many frustrating experiences during this learning curve. And I've read so many negative comments regarding the support guy I won't bother with him. Thanks for hearing me out 😭

      Hello Mary, thanks for your comment. That's a really good suggestion. I think I will give it a go and just share how I use the tool. There are some idiosyncrasies I think, and I have no affiliations with the company so I can say it how it is. I've had several specific questions from people along these lines, so I will try to answer them. The tool does plenty enough for what I want, and there are a few others, but they cost more and since I use an Apple Mac I'm limited to what I use since they don't all cater for the Mac. I'll definitely do some videos on the process that I use. Keep watching.

    Your videos are great! I watch many videos and have learned how to use the software, except adding page numbers. I am ready to sell my patterns, but have no page numbers. Do you have a video that explains how to add page numbers?

      Hello, apologies for the delay in replying, I am recovering from illness and now getting back in the saddle! If you are printing straight from bead tool, you can tailor your layout. To do this, select Tools and then Layout editor. You can tailor things fairly well. Alternatively you can File then Export and export individual parts of the pattern, I find the pattern is a good one, and provides a PNG file - which you can turn to a JPG and use in other documents to suit. I hope that helps. Happy beading Lucy

    Can you do beaded ornaments with this software?

    • @Sciart
      @Sciart  Před 3 lety

      That's an interesting question, but really it is used for working in 2 dimensions. If you are thinking about beading baubles with netting stitches then it probably isn't the easiest tool to use, unless you can do some gymnastics with your mind. The stitches it covers are Brick, Peyote, Loom, Square, RAW, Gourd and Tubular Peyote. I could see doing something which could be drawn and stitched together to create a 3D shape, but it's probably quite hard to do. Thank you for the question. Stay Safe and have a wonderful Christmas break and New Year

    Thank you very much . I’ve downloaded the program and still getting to know it but I have two questions about it : why does a photo disappear after doing the transfer & fixing the color & everything. All of sudden the pattern changes to dots only ? 2nd question is how come the zoom I see in some tutorial has got the percentages & mine got only zoom in and out !!! Thanks so much : great tutorial🙏

      Hello Miriam, thank you for your question. I have been taking a look at this. And I think it would be a good idea to feed in your comments to Christopher at BeadTool direct. I’ve tagged him @beadtool (I hope) in this response and he will perhaps give you better and more detailed feedback. As for the Zoom and percentages, I too have only a toggle, up and down. Looking through BeadTool/Preferences/User Interface on the General Tab, there is a Scroll Wheel Action drop down, with the options Scroll/None/Zoom. I suspect, but I don’t know for sure, that if you were to change this to zoom, you might get zoom percentages when you use the scroll wheel. I don’t have a scroll wheel so I cannot test this.
      As for your question on the photos, it’s something I sometimes find frustrating myself. I might want different versions or colour ways with the same photo, which I might have fixed to exactly the size I want. Maybe one way around it is to ‘save as’ a new file. Perhaps Christopher can comment? #Beadtool
      Thank you for watching, please like, share and subscribe, I will be doing more bead-y stuff in the near future.

    Would you know if there's a way to "flip" the blank grid? I like to work horizontally on my designs, not vertically. Thanks for any help you can give!!!

      Hi Could you give me more information about what you mean please? I am not sure that I understand the question. The print out of the bead pattern is done in a horizontal fashion in line with the horizontal rows as far as I can ascertain.

      @@Sciart I'm sorry! So, I usually look at my patterns in a horizontal manner. The program has columns going left to right and rows top to bottom. I was just wondering if there was any way that you knew of where the columns are added at the bottom and the rows added on the right. .... Sorry if this is confusing...I'm not sure how else to explain it. Thanks!!

      @@barbarajohnson1205 Hi there, I have been in contact with the developers of BeadTool, and this is what they have to say. 'It is not possible to change the orientation of patterns in BeadTool4. BeadTool5 has this ability'. Now BeadTool5 is not tested or released yet, so I guess it's a 'watch that space' moment. I do not know the timeframe. I hope that helps. Enjoy your designing and beading. Keep in touch, any questions do get back to me
