I don't think that you needed to apologize for this video. I liked it. We all have to start somewhere, and you have now shown us how much you have improved with your skills, and your videos. The ONLY complaint I have about this video is that there were no CATS. I've always loved your sense of humor, and today you really did yourself proud!
Its good from time to time to look over one's shoulder, because that way one realises the growth that's taken place.
Never knock your beginnings - how many of us have never even started?! Well done 🎉
Thank you 😊
Amen!! We get wisdom from experience....and we get experience from making mistakes.
Everyone has to start somewhere!!!❤❤
I fondly remember the alley and the samurai. I was looking for him, but this must pre-date him. It has been a perfect delight to watch you develop your fantastic design and production style. I was so happy to see you buy your home and create your dream workshop. It has been a wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing it with us. Still tuning in from Littleton Colorado.
Thank you so much 😊
I remember watching your first videos and thinking how relaxing they were. Even though u we’re learning u still did great!!!!
No need to cringe, I find it quite charming to see someone grow while doing what they love.
You deserve to feel proud when comparing safety scissors in an alley to your beautiful workshop and editing skills now. 🥳
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" You will always find someone who loves your pieces, even your least favorite ones. This was fun to see how you first started.
You're too hard on yourself! You've come so far and I've learned a lot from your channel. You're one of my favorites!
You had the guts to make a start and put yourself out there so pat your former self on the back and thank you for sticking with it and continuing to progress and grow. I enjoy your content very much as do countless others. Congratulations on your success.
I think it’s easy for us to look back at our work and be overcritical. You’ve come a long way because your skill-craft has improved through what you learned from these early sessions. We all start off a little clunky at whatever skill we’re working at, but through a process of learning from what works and what doesn’t we improve. The good news is that you are really good at your skill-craft now; both videography and woodworking. I must say, while it might not be what you would do now, even then you had great vision of what a pice of furniture could become. Thank you for sharing this early video. It takes courage to look back at what we consider not so good and share it with other people…especially when it can open us up to criticism from others.😊
Thanks Kent! Appreciate it mate
Love your work and your comment on it, too. It’s nice to reflect and see what you’ve learned! I get envious of your tools and your sunny workshop! 💚. We’re all moving along. TYSM!
I think it is fine for your first video. Certainly better than I would do.
God bless you!
You’ve come along way n you’ve learn so much. Give yourself much credit. This piece turned out nice but you’ve definitely have grown since then. All those cool tools you have n knowledge. You’ve taught yourself to become a true master craftsman. So proud of you Jay. Continue to grow n don’t be so hard on yourself. We love what you do.
♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
I think the desk looks great. It isn’t the type of item or technique that future you would choose today, but past you worked with the tools and techniques at your disposal at that time. You have learned so much since then. You’ve grown and that’s what we are here for.
I totally agree! Thanks
Hi Jay. I have been watching you from the very beginning. You and Barry (Mad City Modern) popped into my feed and it was refreshing to see newbies getting started on a new journey. It has been fantastic watching you find your way and grow. Kudos to you my friend. Keep up the fantastic work.
😂 very nice to watch the birth of an outsider! But the video gave me a headache as it goes to and fro, up and down... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
FANTASTIC ANYWAY ❤
I remember those early days in the alley. I’ve always enjoyed your videos and even though I somehow missed seeing this one, it’s funny now to look back. You have come so far! Your work is just wonderful.
Thanks for watching 😊
You've come such a long way! And there's nothing to be embarrassed about - you did create a very nice piece of furniture, and yes, it does have a spacey, unique look to it 🙃 Obviously, it did please someone. And a plus to showing us this video - actually two plusses - you can film whatever you're doing anywhere (and you can always find a place to do the things your heart desires 😉) aaand I'm sure you're helping someone avoid some of the mistakes you made, both with your "creation" and your filming.
I haven't watched one of your videos yet that had me going "yeah yeah yeah, just get on with it". Actually, it's you and Mayfield's stuff that I genuinely look forward to. So, keep up the good work! ❤
Hi Jay! What shines in this first video is your interest in the creative journey of furniture flipping. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you 😊
Be proud! Don't knock it. Everybody has to start somewhere. You gave it a go and stuck with it, perfecting your talents both with camera work and craftsmanship.
Keep up the good work! 👍
You’ve come a long way baby! I’m really proud of how you’ve grown & how you’re channel has exploded. I think we all enjoy the relaxing quality of your videos. I get excited everytime you post a new one. Some channels get boring over time, but yours just keep getting better.
That’s very kind of you to say. Thanks ☺️
Oh, Jay......we all start somewhere! Kudos to you for hanging in there and creating such a fantastic channel. I love watching your projects. 💕
This is great! We all start somewhere and seeing this helps us all see how accomplished you are!
You should be super proud of all the skill you’ve gained, in woodworking and in presenting! There’s a lot of competition on CZcams, you’re doing it right.
I remember you working in your alley!! Don’t be so hard on yourself! You’ve definitely grown (tremendously) in you videography skills!! Love all of your videos!
I think I remember seeing this, and I absolutely remeber you working in the alley, You have come so far. And your talent and ability now are phenomenal.
Jay, what a trip down memory lane! You were in that house, using your alley, when I first discovered your channel. I remember your comments about working full-time in health care. You've truly come a long way, and you're one of only 3 DIY furniture channels I regularly watch. Thank you for this retrospective, and I'm looking forward to more of your good work! Cheers from Oklahoma!!!
Enjoyed watching this video. The piece came out good for your first time. And as you said, by watching this you see how far you have come and how much you have improved. I also was digging your slippers. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Its good to see your growth from that point to today. Bravo. Impressive. Love your work
You've come so far. It's good for us to see beginnings. Look how much you've learned! Amazing! Thank you for sharing.
What a delight! We all feel the same angst looking back at the beginnings of our hobbies, careers, and passions, Thanks for sharing your journey. You have accomplished so much!
Thanks für sharing where you started. Shows how you develop over time and thats great!!! ❤
This first video is your baseline data for measuring growth. Your growth has been amazing!
That was fun to look back and see how far you've come. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks for watching 💛
You are so adorably humble. Everyone has to start somewhere and if you start at the top, where do you go from there? I've very much enjoyed watching your progression. Here's to more great videos!
I totally enjoyed this video! Everyone has to start somewhere and I think you did a great job even back then. I loved your voice over as you looked back and cringed 🤣 you have definitely come along way and I'm glad to have been able to witness your progress 😊
LOL....loved seeing it. We all have to start somewhere. You were humble enough to show us that. And I want those slippers!!!
Such fun to see how far you've come. Both in video making and furniture restoration. Love your channel. Also love your accent.
Ok, so not your best work, but all the greats were beginners at some point. 🙂 You have grown and improved by leaps and bounds, Jay. Even your filming and commentary are better; you're clearly much more comfortable in front of the camera now.
Looking foward to your next masterpiece! 😀
Thank you so much 😃
It is FINE! Love to watch you work! Do not be ashamed😉
I've been watching you since the good old days.❤Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we will never cease to be amused!😅
It shows how far you have come as a content creator. It's very cool.
Absolutely lovely. Greetings from Madrid Spain
Oh my gosh you are so funny watching yourself😂 Everybody has to start look how for you have come😊
❤Enjoyed watching that! We all have to start somewhere! Congratulations on how far you have come!!!
OMGosh! That was fun! Even in the very beginning you were a visionary Redesigner. What you created in that desk was very attractive. No wonder you had no problems selling it. I thought your printed screen comments were so funny. And, of course your voice over was too. Going back in time is a really good thing to do, because you realize how far you've come in a short period in time.
Thanks for watching 💛
It still looks fantastic, and you have definitely grown into the video making!
You always manage to surprise us with something different. Loved the video, made me smile. Thank you for sharing it.
You have come a long way from those days!! Love your work!
We all have to start somewhere. Good to look back and see how far you've come!
Love how you dangle the dust mask !!! What progress you've made!!
I remember all your videos and they are the one's that caught my attention and here I am still watching and learning. Even though I gave up I still enjoy your work. Thank you for the memories.
Thanks. Appreciate your time 😉
You sure have come a long way! I remember you painting and working in the alley. I’m glad you stuck with it.
I like it, good to see all the steps. Lots of good work no matter where you filmed.
We love you so yeah. This was in the beginning and you were learning but it is cool to see just how far you’ve come and how excellent your filming and editing is now. You became a “professional” I love your videos and your humor ❤️
None of us are perfect on the first time out at anything. Thanks for sharing the beginning of your journey as a CZcamsr. I always enjoy your videos!
Thanks 😊
Bro, this is awesome!! You made it look like anyone could do it, now you are a pro. In just a few months!! I enjoyed seeing all your videos from first to last. Bravo and I've been a subscriber since the beginning. Honestly, it would be great if you would do a video on upping the video making game just like you did. PS: Loving those slippers...
Thanks. Much appreciated. Probably no one will see this video as it’s not a restoration but who knows… I might do something completely different once in a while
Thanks for showing us your first video! Makes us realize that even if it’s not perfect, the important thing is to just go ahead and do it. Your videos are fun, interesting and entertaining while we learn something. I love how you take a piece that needs help and transform it into something beautiful.
I just started my own channel about furniture flipping and it's so good to see that others started small as well, thank you so much for sharing that with us 😊❤️
No problem 😉 it was definitely a journey 😂
I'm glad you kept this, it was lovely looking back and seeing how you started🙂 you were awesome back then, you are awesome now ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks. Was an interesting experience to do this
I enjoyed that 😊 watching you work with your slippers on!! 🤣😅😂👍👍
Don't be so hard on yourself, everyone has to start somewhere and the desk looks good (with the possible exception of the gold overspray). I've been following you since the alley days (but guess you didn't have your Samurai statue in this video). You've gained so much knowledge and experience since, I'm always impressed with your finished work.
Nice to see the beginning, I think it is encouraging to those just starting out.
Hey ya gotta start somewhere. Long journeys start with the first step. Keep going 👍
Every job is a learning experience. Love your vlogs
Thank you for sharing this first video. You’ve come a very long way!
The fuzzy slippers are my favorite!
Turn out nice considering it was the first one. Great video for showing just how far you've come. Thanks for sharing your growing pains 😊
That was fun! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Thank you for showing us, how far you have come. That's absolutely amazing dude.
My pleasure!🧡
We all have to start somewhere. 😆 I've watched every video you've posted and have enjoyed them all.
I love it! ❤
You have to begin somewhere. It inspires those of us who think about having a CZcams channel, to try it. You’ve come a long way and both you and your work are awesome! Keep going!⭐️➡️
Everyone is a Beginner at something!! Happy you shared your “baby steps”!! And now look at You!!! Ppl learn from mistakes and Boy did you learn!! Happy for you Jay!!🌸💫🌸
Comfy slippers indeed 😂😂! 👍😎🐕🦺🐈⬛
You are too hard on yourself!! For a first video, you were explaining your process (which you still do and it’s much appreciated!), and figuring out this whole CZcams gig. It was wonderful to see your beginning!
Interesting result for sure! I could hear the embarrassment in your voice. You went there!!! Good for you! "Feel the pain but do it anyway." Thanks for sharing. I experience the same feelings when I look back my decorating through the years. I thought it looked great at the time! 😂
Regardless of the activity, there's always a growing and learning process. You have made so much progress and learned so much about your craft since your first video! I love watching you work! Looking forward to the next one!!!! 😊
This was fun. It's inspiring to know whatever the circumstances or limitations in where you live, I can do it if I want to bad enough. Thank you for sharing!
"...and I left the frame again" made me laugh. Thank you :-) Hey, we all start somewhere. You've come a long way!
Thank you! 😃definitely
Wow! You really have come a long way, not only in your refinishing and video work, but also in your aesthetics! Very fun to watch your reaction to this first video. One thing hasn't changed, though: you are still easy to look at and easy to listen to. 🙂
Thank you 🙏
Had to start somewhere and the journey is all learning 🎉 Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you for sharing this learning experience.
My pleasure!
You have come a long way, my friend. It was delightful seeing an early work!
Thank you very much!
The quality of your work has definitely improved!!
You crack me up. It's evident you don't take YOURSELF seriously. As serious as you take your projects. Who does that? Self reflection is always beneficial. You can't know where you're at if you don't know where you've been. Very entertaining. Well done Sir.
It is very amusing - and embarrassing - to go back and see ourselves at the beginning of acquiring new skills. However while you are chagrined, we are fondly amused plus amazed at how far you have come, and how quickly. Thank you for this glimpse into the past.
My pleasure 😇 thanks for watching
I love the pink medical scissors that all of us medical peeps carry in the pockets of our scrubs 😅
I think it's great to compare ourselves from early on! It came out nice and you staged it well, too - which shows that you have natural talent. Now look at you! And yes, love the slippers hahaha. I used to make videos while in my pajamas and yes - I worked inside my house. Hey, we're always learning all the time. Thank you for sharing that one! xo
Thanks 😊 much appreciated
Hi Jay, we all have to start somewhere. You did a wonderful job. We all get better with time and experience. Yes, I remember the alley. I had just found you. Thank you for sharing. Joyce from Connecticut, USA 🇺🇸🙏❤️
Thanks for watching 💛
You’ve always been awesome. Even more so now.
I’m about to do my first video and your candid review of your first video has given me a little more courage. Thanks for sharing, it means a lot!!!!
Cool😊 good luck
Much better than I could have done. Not my choice in finished look, though I do like the top. As you said, someone liked it so well done
I'm sure every last CZcamsr has a video or two that never sees the light of day. Don't be so hard on yourself! You have learnt on the job, with an audience in tow. I remember the 1st video I watched you had less than 1000 subscribers and now you have 121 thousand. Many CZcamsrs get nowhere near that level of support even with an interesting channel. I can honestly say that almost without exception I have loved the end result of your work.
I remember you working in your back alley. I always hoped you'd get a nice workshop one day, 😉
I have been watching your videos from the beginning and have enjoyed watching you improve and develop your tools and then workshops. We all have room for improvement, the key is to keep on improving and not get complacent. Somehow I don't think you ever will stop improving, so I'll keep watching.
It is always good to reflect. Thank you for sharing your journey.
My pleasure 😇
I love that you used surgical scissors to open the paint hahaha. I remember your videos from the alleyway.
Ha ha well😂
even your first video you have great work. ❤❤❤
Well done for having the courage to share your first video, that you are not so proud of, and congratulations on your progress since then! I think it's great to see where we started so we can appreciate and be grateful for where we are now! :)
Don't be so hard on yourself! The end product was decent, it sold, and you kept it out of the landfill. It was better quality and more thought went into it than a lot of new furniture being made now. Your channel has inspired me to take on a few "projects" of my own with no previous training and only a basic set of tools. Thank you!
Thank you 😊
