    Everytime when i watch, and i have seen all your video's, my breath is taken away and my heartbeat races banging my heart allmost through my chest, when looking at the beauty of your surroundings. The video's shot from the boat looking across the water, the video's of the trees the woods your garden. With that music in the background, oh boy it makes me really jealous in a positive way (be cause you are living the dream have since childhood and I feel so lucky to be allowed to watch you living it and shooting it on video for all of us to see!!)
    Every week I am looking forward to your new video here. It calms me and makes me happy, for you but also for us viewers.
    I hope you are able to keep on living in this manner for a long time, stay healthy and stay in harmony with each other. You have a really special and precious thing going there, you guys are blessed! I may sound a bit soft, but 50 years old and battle worn by life with all its uglyness in every form you can imagine I am everything but soft. But the bushcrafter and wannabe living self-reliant (unfortunately not easily realised here in Holland/The Netherlands due to shortage of nature like yours thus living in a ugly city :-( ..... ) independent man I am just enchanted by your lives. • @neilvaniderstine3515
      @neilvaniderstine3515 Před 4 lety +3

      Best thing for tomatoes is putting them in a dark space for a few days/weeks and they’ll ripen just fine. For Jake and Nicole a cardboard box under their bed will do just fine. Just don’t forget to check them as they ripen pretty quick.

    • @rastamanralph6670
      @rastamanralph6670 Před 4 lety +3

      If you want to control a tomato plant and how much energy goes into the other trusses you can either take individual tomatoes or cut the whole vine off and put it in a box with a lid on because fruit ripens in the dark better. Most plants are more active through the night than the day.

    Just discovered you two. Enjoying all your episodes from the earliest to today’s. You have so much energy. Love seeing what you are getting done week to week. ❤️When I saw you on top of the felled trees, bucking up the limbs, I thought you could use some of those lithe limbs to weave a fence perimeter around your new upper lot. ❤️Use live saplings for fence posts. You could add an occasional human-adapted posts (for gaps) when necessary. ❤️Then cut down some prickly brambles and replant them along the outer perimeter for further deterrence as they grow up the fence. ❤️I am an Iroquois archaeologist in AlbaNY. And I’ve excavated “palisaded” villages. And the male archaeologists always think of the palisaded fences as for defense against invading peoples, I believe (more so, especially after watching your Vlog), that fences are for keeping the bears, deer, etc. out of the garden, and keeping smaller children corralled/safe. ❤️Also what about moving your metal garage up to the upper lot, as most of your activity is happening there now? You can move your milling operation and milled wood storage up under there (versus having to schlep all of your logs down the hill, and then back up the hill when they’re cut and you’re ready to use them). ❤️ Also just watched a pole barn video build where the guy didn’t buck up his trees/posts when prepping them - meaning he kept several stronger limbs (at varying heights) on the trunk of the post he was making. Ingenious and thrifty. When the structure was built around those posts, those 4”-12” long preserved outward limbs were free “hooks” or upper area storage areas (especially great horizontal storage for lighter pieces of trim, or anything you don’t want on the ground). Between the “hooks,” you can just pressure-fit, cross-fit branches inside your building to dry herbs, etc. Instant free storage solutions. ❤️ And promise me that each of you will always have a Bic lighter, just in case of an emergency, if you get stranded without the Striker on one of those islands. Or in case you need to make a fire because the dogs are freezing, or you two are, have engine troubles, etc. ❤️Maybe someone crafty can even make an emergency lighter necklace for each of you to always wear.

    I didn't see no pizza oven. It's nice to see two people crushing life instead of the other way around. In regard to those boards you're making...the garden steps and the wood pile lean to...wouldn't it be good to hit them with a blow torch and/or some pine tar or something to make them more weather resistant?

    I'd love to see you guys with a band saw mill there someday. As great as it is to use a chainsaw mill to make some slabs, if you start making like 2x6 lumber with a chainsaw mill it's not really economical between the gas, and definitely the time. Whereas if you get good with a bandsaw mill, which is actually much easier to use and far safer, you'll be able to turn a pile of logs into thousands of board feet in a day. And you can use some of the thinner wood that would be hard to mill with a chainsaw, you can throw that on the mill and take off the edges, and then you've got a solid post you can use for fencing or something.

You will never run out of water this way because the sea is vast. You can also collect dirty water you’ve used in showers and dishes and recycle it by boiling it into steam again. I’m pretty sure you can make your own tool to collect steam since you are skillful.

    Hey your guys homestead is looking great. Got your wood for the winter in. Maybe try building a fruit house so you can start canning some vegetables and fruits for winter. But some safety stuff, Jake dude you have head, eye and ear protection, break down and get some logging chaps to protect your legs. And if your going to walk through underbrush and over logs maybe go as far and get yourself some proper logging boots (as in like corks) to protect your feet and help gripping logs, so you don't slip and hurt your ankle.The other is either watch CZcams video or get some one to teach you how to cut down tree's properly before you get hurt. As for those pile of logs you were standing, don't those piles like that shift and move. If one of those logs lands on you, it will kill you or seriously hurt you. Not only that there is yellow jacket nests sometimes on them. If you slip and kick one of those you will have a very bad day. I know this from experience.
