    Great video David I actually use this today to route out to a couple of analog devices from Studio 1 and my 192 interface... My old school DBX, Lexicon, and Avid Guitar pre along with an Analog phone interface all run out to my patch bay and come back in for the analog 'real world' touch. When I first started with S1 I couldn't find a lot of resources online on how to do it but figured it out, thankfully with this video you'll help new users for a few years to come!

    Another good video. I'm a bit confused because you implied that with Pipeline XT you can "export a mix" as usual rather than using an interim print track. Does Pipeline XT automatically force Studio One to use 1X (realtime) speed for creating the exported mix?

    Great job on this video as well. I watched your previous video before this one (missed it live due to work). I do the hybrid setup. I love using control surfaces and outboard hardware with real knobs, switches and faders. I mentioned previously I currently do a chain with WA 19 in clone hardware (1073EQ-1176- Pultec tube EQ) on the input side and had great results. I just picked up a Purple Audio Sweet 10 chassis for 500 series experimentation from Sweetwater and will build another analog chain on the output bus/mix/analog summing like you did here. The Pipeline XT use was really cool and simplified things. I'm not sure I would have thought of that as I don't use much of the native Studio One plugins and probably taken the long road to get there :). I'm sure I'll be back to this video once I start getting in some 500 series modules. Are you running anything through patch bays in your set up? I ask because you mention the outboard chain gear it eats up I/O's on your Apollo and you would need to add another one for more I/O capacity. I have an Apollo Twin as my main AI and will use a patchbay since I don't have the luxury of keeping static I/O wired if not in use. I do have a PreSonus Studio 1824c which has enough I/O's but I like the Apollo's audio quality over the 1824c.

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't use a patch bay at this time and maybe at one point, I will.
      I really want to have dedicated "chains" instead which would keep me from having a patch bay.
      You got some very cool pieces there!
      If you are buying more good gear from Sweetwater, here is my link for you to use now and anytime in the future. It helps support the HRME channel and your cost is exactly the same. I thank you very much in advance!

  • @deanmasi6684
    @deanmasi6684 Před 4 lety

    Thank you for this. Perfect timing! I HAVE A QUESTION... On my first rig ("Studio A") I am running out into an analog stereo mixbus chain using analog summing, plus a compressor & EQ, and then printing back in the full stereo mix to S1 (the older way like you mentioned, without Pipeline). However, I am now setting up a 2nd rig ("Studio B" in a different location) where I am about to add in a couple of analog pieces of gear for a hybrid setup (literally almost the same way as you are now)... S1, Apollo x4 (only 4 ins and 4 outs), Tegeler Creme (Buss Compressor and EQ for the full stereo mix). However, I want to tie in a dedicated piece of gear as well, strictly for the drums (pretty much just like you with the other compressor). So here's my question (I don't think you mentioned this part exactly/specifically).... But your drums are coming back in 3&4, and the full mix on 5&6. How do you get your drums from 3&4 to ALSO then route through 5&6 as well (into your stereo mixbus chain) for that final stereo print? Thanks Dave!

    • @deanmasi6684
      @deanmasi6684 Před 4 lety

      Dave, I'm sorry I've never used Pipeline (yet). I am watching your other video right now (the Live video from the 8th). You are explaining this exact scenario that I listed above. So basically.... Pipeline is just amazing and sort of routes all of this for you? This is pretty insane. I can't wait to try it. It's hard to imagine not having to actually "print" the track(s) anymore when running through physical analog gear. I guess that's why I was confused. That's actually pretty incredible!!!! What a great concept. The problem now is that it might be way too easy to incorporate analog gear into our projects. In which case, WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE BROKE!!!!!!! :-) I know I will!!!!

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, however the FINAL mix is done in real-time like it was in the past BUT......only on the final export. You don't need print tracks for all of the hardware chains. So, the drum bus hardware compressor does not need a "print track" like in the past.

    • @deanmasi6684
      @deanmasi6684 Před 4 lety

      @@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Ok yes, that's what I thought. Makes sense. No biggie. So in some sort of magical way, in the end, Pipeline kind of sums everything back together for that final print. I was thinking that I would have needed to either print separate tracks (like you just mentioned), or that i was going to need another summing mixer in order to bring everything back through that master buss mix-chain. But instead, Pipeline is actually makes this all possible now. Great stuff! Thanks for the reply and thanks for the videos!

    I may be misunderstanding, when you render your mix down, though you’re not “printing it” to a track, are you still real time out-putting your final mix, OR, with pipeline, can you mix down at the “warp speed” like if it was 100% in the box? I was trying to wrap my head around how it would work, sending audio out pipeline at warp speed, would that work the same on the compressor? I think I missed something...

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy

    I have a LOT of work, so wondered how to tackle that.? I have all my raw wav files, but do stems and channels also have to be backed up>?
    Also, in the master bus stereo out (main), I see you have no post tools, as theyre all in inserts at the top. Do you have any vids or info on this routing and how inserts and post tools work?

      Open up each session in version 3. Then go to FILE - SAVE TO NEW FOLDER and that will make an exact copy of the session and all the files so you now have two copies on your system. Then you can open up one of those sessions in version 5 and save it. Now you have a session that you can open in either version. That's the way to do it if you feel that you need to have the ability to open each session in either version. Honestly, I would never do that. I would just keep version 3 on your system and install to version 5. You can have both versions on your computer. Then you can open older session in version 3 and all new projects going forward you create in version 5.
      Hope this helps
