  • Remember those aeonium cutting I had left over from last maintenance video in my garden?
Let’s plant them in the gutters!
I’ll share watering tips and talk about what’s going and what’s staying in my garden when we move.

Thank you for all the great summer succulent maintenance information! Summer is in full swing in Phoenix Arizona 9B- the temps are ranging from 105 - 112, and my succulents are starting to stress. On my walkabout I’ll check about adding soil . My greatest challenge is watering, how much and how often. So, thanks for the tutorial, and thank you Greg for the great close-ups!! Enjoy your week and welcome back home!

Whomever buys this home will be blessed with a beautiful, well-loved, and meticulously groomed front and back yard. Wouldn't it be funny if these were actually selling points of this home? It'd be a hoot if the new owners are fans too!

I will be so glad if that large aeonium head is separate. I love the rest of the crest but have always found that one head ruined it for me. Am so looking forward to seeing the new garden and its growth over the next few years. Much love from Val in Oz.

I feel like if you don’t take the red planter with you when you move, you might wish you had and it’ll be easier to move your crested plant instead of digging it out 🙂

Expandable hoses, love them. Light-weight and they don't kink. They are kind of weird becasue they will literally grow when you turn the water on and then shrink way down when you turn the water off. But, yeah for light-weight!!

I finally planted my own gutters in February Laura. They were and are gorgeous! However, 5 months in and in east central FL, they’ve grown so much that the top gutter has grown all the way down to the bottom. They get 8+ hours of direct FL sun a day and need to be watered every other day. We’re in the 90’s with 60%+ humidity and I haven’t lost one succulent - 35 varieties! - to rot. Unfortunately, the whole thing needs reworked because of the growth. I highly recommend the collapsible snake like hoses. 👍

What do you use for potting mixture? I live in the panhandle and I still get some rot, which is devastating as you might expect.

I was literally about to ask about being in the 90+ and 60% humidity. I made a gutter wall to help shade my deck. It’s loaded with newly planted succulents..and after all the videos I’ve watched I’m so scared to water them yet because every video says to water once a month! I did use a lot of perlite mixed with soil and added succulent fertilizer, topped off with pebbles. I’m going to be so sad if my garden dies because it is soooo beautiful!

It will be sad to not see your beautiful garden after your move. However, I am so excited to see what you will do to a blank canvas and that we will learn so much from you from the start. We just got our house sided and they are putting in new gutters next week. My husband already told me he's getting me three new gutter pieces with end caps for succulents!!! So excited. But I'm in NJ so they can only be outside in the summer. Trying to figure out a way to have two hanging spaces - one outdoors and one inside... and maybe one in the sunroom... Hmmm...

I live in SW Florida. My succulents do ok unless we get a tropical system and days of non stop rain. I cover them or move them under cover when that happens and they do fine. A little extra effort to be able to enjoy them in Florida.

Can I plant my succulents in only plain dirt? My sister did it all the time and her succulents were beautiful. I want to make a garden bed but buying soil can get pricy. Maybe incorporate dirt with soil and some perlite. Any feedback?
