I am an employee in an online gaming company and this 28% gst shook the entire company , the layoffs have already started, employees working for years whose families are totally dependent on them are laid off , Government is chosen by us to support us not to ruin our life, people who are supporting this decision should just think for a second- There are currently very few jobs for software engineers in the market because of recession , and during these tough times govt takes a decision to genererate 10 thousand more unemployment of skilled people , this will not only create unemployment but all the foreign investors who invested so much money in these industries will now stay away from indian companies as they now know that the indian government can conviniently destory any sector of the industry and no one can stop them even when they are wrong

28% GST is way too harsh. But the reason behind this decision could be there are too many gaming platforms and the number keeps on growing and there is no stopping.
Apart from gaming platforms there are also online betting which is now so easily accessible. It was inevitable that government action was due and this has finally happened.

Reasons:
1. There is no surprise since the government had been considering this for a long time. Since online gaming is a growing market.
2. Speculation based games vs talent based games issue are still a bone of contention.
3. Gaming cos got some favourable judgements from Hon'ble High court, which were later challenged by the department in the Hon'ble Supreme court. The issue is yet to be decided.
For online gaming players even advertisement during IPL final game is cheaper but not for a normal product seller, so at least from now on regular product seller can afford for adv

That has always been the case. The reason is, high income people are very less so whatever govts come they'll be forced to continue with this. Only when prosperity is spread amongst wider people taxes can be reduced. Else reducing it will only harm public finances
