Balatro is one of those games where the only thing that is bad about the game is that it is too addicting

@@chubbyanemone696 it's hard to say since different people have different ideas of what a roguelike is. The term has evolved so much since its original meaning. It fits my definition perfectly so it's a roguelike to me.
@@logixindie it's a roguelite. Called that because it has meta progression. Roguelikes do not have that. So people calling games with meta progression roguelikes is a mislabel. Think Hades or Gungeon.
@@ashtonhoward5582 while that is true, the meta progress aspect is very small in Balatro, it it doesn't take long to unlock every item. Balatro soon becomes a roguelike where each run is independent from another, while Gungeon is a roguelite beast with unholy amount of contents to unlock, and Hades is a lot about connections between runs.

I like how the example of a difficulty setting that "just raises enemy health and damage" is Devil may Cry, and specifically the boss fight that unlocks an entire extra weapon and moveset every time you go up in difficulty.

Edit: I have 51.4 hours in this game now. Its 5 hours a day on average. It has toned down slightly from the 9 hour a day I had the first 3 days, but that's only because I cycle between Balatro and fighting the good fight for freedom and democracy over on Helldivers 2.
I fear for my productivity when the Factorio Space Age expansion comes out.

I had a run recently where I got the following jokers:
- Bonus multi when playing hearts
- Bonus chips when playing face cards
- Bonus multi when playing face cards
- ALL cards count as face cards
- A fifth one I forget, but had the x1.5 multi modifier, so I kept it
All I did the entire game was spam flushes of hearts.

The way this game does endless is so good. It’s actually really hard unless you have the perfect setup. This really is one of the best games we’ve had in awhile

Quick tip. You can choose the order in which the cards are scored this does matter in some cases such as putting glass cards last or retriggering the best card in the played hand instead of a wimpy normal card.

Hey again Brickster, hope this message finds you well! It’s me again, the *Gunfire Reborn* shill back to give you another build to try when you finally decide to give this masterpiece the time it so rightfully deserves.
A good one for beginners is the _Crown Prince_ frame build. Reason it’s called that is due to it being required in order to unlock the unique frame for the character. The way to do it is to make sure you take skills which increase your primary ability power, which is to freeze enemies in place. If you simply take *_Energy Storage + Power source_* then you will find yourself freezing enemies from up to ten seconds+, although that only occurs if you cast it again on them once they stop being frozen.
If you combine this however with a high fire rate gun such as the corrosive + fire shooting lizard then it means free headshot damage and burn/corrosion for all who will meet their untimely demise at your hands.

My favorite way to think about the games structure is like other roguelikes. Each ante is a floor. Each blind is an encounter. You do encounters to get money and access the shop. You can skip encounters to get a bonus instead. Boss encounters cannot be skipped though, so you need to prepare for each boss encounter. After each boss, you advance to the next floor, and numbers for all the encounters go up. Beat the floor 8 boss to win a run.
I love when the game dev gives you an ACTUAL gambling addiction. The only thing more addicting for me is Factorio, but cheating at cards and getting away with it is a close third.

The best part of this is that you can already compile a mobile version from your game install and play it on your phone if you have an Android device, and thats what put the official port into the dev's mind

Looking at the hours played from Saturday at 10 AM to Monday at 7 PM, that's what Rogue Trader did to me. I started it Friday at 6 PM, and by 8 PM Sunday I had almost 30 hours in the game.

Okay, Bricky, I see where you're coming from, and you didn't specifically call out DMC for this, but DMC4, and frankly, the entire series except for 2 and the reboot, have some of the best hard modes in games. SoS and DMD difficulty, not only increase enwmy damage and health, but they also switch around enemy spawns, change enemy behavior, add mechanics to how you beat them, and in some cases, give bosses new moves.
I think a better example of this would be something like Skyrim where literally the only change is numerical.
I felt frustrated with balatro so i came to youtube to relax. Ooooh look a new bricky video. I am now going to relaunch balatro.

My friend and i stream our games to each other, so I've been "watching"(listening) to him play Balatro. Sound design is top notch. The pops and pings and shuffles sound SO good
This game definitely makes the neurons fire with all the sound effects
it got to the point where im looping the background music whenever im not playing the game.
I was playing BALATRO when this dropped and still playing it as i watch this.
