A great addition to any DM's collection, and something that will see lots of game play. I still prefer my square pillars but these are nice to have to change things up once in a while.

Absolutely STELLAR production value. Aside from the great substance of the video itself, you appear to be approaching mastery when it comes to lighting, sound mixing and editing. What an inspiration on this meta-front!
Thanks really trying to improve the quality of the videos. I started knowing nothing about video production, still don’t know much, but trying to learn.
You and DM Scotty ruined my life. J/K To many things to build not enough time. My buddies and I spent around 8 hours building terrain and drinking beers all the while listening to your channel.
That’s awesome!
I LOVE building this stuff too. I dont really have people to play with. As a matter of fact, i play games like arcadia quest and not dnd. I dont even know how to get into it.
@@killerpinkart6173 Check out some game stores might find a group near you to join. If you make terrain I'm sure they'd enjoy having you as a member of their group.
Sounds like a real good time hanging out making terrain and drinking beer. That's a win win win.
That was just pillar talk baby!
Nice... Ash!
I really need to get me one of those hot foam cutter tables. It saves so much time.
In the past, I've cut circles of foam using 1" brass tubing that I filed down a little on one end to give it more of a cutting edge. Press down, twist, and voila--you got a circle. It works surprisingly well if you're on a budget, or just happen to have some brass tubing lying around. It's also great for consistency.
Thanks for this tip. I don't have a hot wire table yet, due to a minor issue with space, and a MAJOR issue with sub-optimal house wiring layout (30 lights/plugs on a 15 amp breaker? WTF!).
Missed pun opportunity - "Diversify my pillar game" could have been "Diversify my pillar portfolio". Thanks for the video, always enjoy your builds
Oh yeah! It's that time again. Friday!! Been looking froward to this. Thank you, sir!
I just used 1" foam backing rod for caulking and it saved me a lot of time.
Great job as always! My work suffers until I get your popup video notification out of the way and I wouldn't dare just close it! I have to watch!
Love the rock tumbler method. Saving me so much time.
Amazing! I look forward to triangular, pentangular, sextangular, and so on.
Next pillar shape? Pentagonal! I mean, why else have you been drawing all those pentagrams in your notebook... on the walls of your bedroom... and above that red shrine in the basement.
Look pretty good some round rings with chains maybe a prisoner or a skeleton would really jazz them up.
Another great idea! I really want to invest in the circle jig!
As always you are a crafting God!!! Thank you for a great build..... now to start crafting!!!!
It's ok if you have a Proxon !! Great video. Thanks Jeremy.
Another awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! they look really good.
You should totally try out greenstuff leaf cutter, grey one got lovely shapes!
cool build
neat a look in to seee more as post
Nice! Very inspirational, but I might try some of my kids' underutilized wooden cylinder blocks for the centre of my own pillars. Keep up the excellent tutorials regardless!
If you have some wood cylinders it would probably work better than the foam.
Oh! I have some cut-offs from closet rod. Now they have a use.
Being from southern Louisiana, I can never get away from the humidity. Lol
Have you ever made matching rubble props or is that something you feel like didn't really need something made for? Like say someone smashes a pillar.
Nice !!!
I bet some 3/4" PVC pipe would be a good substitute for the round foam if you don't have a hot wire cutter and jig. (3/4" is the inside diameter, so the outer diameter is a bit larger than this). Some washers glued in the bottom could help add weight, and PVC is super easy to cut, so you can make then whatever length you want pretty easily. (You might need to lightly sand the PVC to make sure the glue sticks).
I kind of wonder how it would turn out with PVC wrapped in thinner, adhesive-backed foam. You could engrave the brick pattern on before you wrap it, and hit it quickly with a heat gun after to open it up. that could be a quick solution, although it might not look as detailed.
Alternatively you can use foam backing rod that is normally used for caulking large gaps.
needs magnets... 😂😂. they came out great
Great pillars, they turned out awesome. The shiny gooey blood pit in the middle is disgusting, I love it.
There is an old vid showing how to make that blood pit
Found it: czcams.com/video/l4dts0Dv0gk/video.html
What is the music track used in the intro?
Dude this is awesome... glad I found this channel! i'm a new DM that just started playing with my kids. What would you recommend getting started with as far as kit goes?
www.blackmagiccraft.ca has my essential equip page with all the stuff I use and recomend. Check my playlists, I also have a series of "Basics" videos for beginners. Most important thing to start is a good utility knife, hot glue gun, some cheap brushes and craft paint.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Thanks!
Did you build the jig for the Hotwire cutter? The 90 deg one? Where can I find one? Thank you.
look up my videos on Shifting Lands
Nice project as always! What's with the smurf with the axe?
Ask my wife...it's her PC....hes a half orc, she wanted blue skin.
That's the beauty of the game. No limits to imagination. Happy gaming and rock on with your blue self!
Will the blood vat be next?
Already done a long time ago. Check vid description for link.
If I'm nit mistaken it was one of his early videos
I make similar pillars, but I use empty toilet paper rolls as the base instead of foam
👍👍
The diameter isn't the important number is it? I mean, it's the radius you set the Proxxon to isn't it (5/8")? I know I'm a bit late with this but I just got around to start building these pillars. Also, for the top and bottom it looks like they are slightly larger. Is that true?
Diameter, circumference, and radius are related.....so......
The top and bottom are intentionally larger.
How do you manage to do clear coating in winter?
I just do it inside in small batches
You got two options, really: airbrushing matte varnish, or hand-brushing the matte varnish on. The former is better as you get even coats all over, but not everyone has space for an airbrush so doing it by hand is usually fine.
If you're the gambling sort, you can use a rattlecan outside and quickly bring it inside so that it doesn't ruin the clear coat. I'd recommend that if you do this, bring it into your bathroom and turn the fan on so that it'll have somewhere for the smell to ventilate.
Just discovered you
How would I make piles of gold? Like a dragons lair?
Where do you find your musics, mah good man? More precisely, the one at the start of this video is really my kind, so where it at?
They are all licensed through Epidemic Sound.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!
So I've noticed my 1/2" insulation foam is actually 9/16" thick making my pillars too tall.
Anyone know how to make this without the Proxxon? I have everything else down, but not having that bad boy is killing me! So expensive :(
You probably don't need this anymore - it's been a year - but for anyone else with this same question, like me, I'd honestly try what he suggested in the beginning of the video and just do the thing he did in his square pillars video, but with circular layers instead. It seems like it'd work out really well! Me and my trusty x-acto are gonna try that sometime in the next few days, probably. We'll see how it goes!
thanks wyloch.
Wyloch's not here man
lol, all them numbers and measurements, I thought it was him. great video as always man, I almost got me a hot wire cutter like the one you use right before my table disbanded :( so now I'm looking for players.
Lol, ya got me
Cool render! I especially like the rock tumbler technique, defenetly have to try this out! If you don't have a proxxon you can alternatively use pill tubes filled with sand as a base...did a video a while back on pillars so here's the link if you guys are interested( feel free to delete the comment if you feel like i'm overstepping Jeremy), Cheers ! czcams.com/video/1pElcCcptbg/video.html
Nah, the more videos there are on the same projects the better. This way people can try what they find most appealing.
If I had planned this better (it was an impromptu build) I probably would have used some wood dowels for the substrate.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Same line of thoughts here. Wood dowels are also good to make small sized pillars by themselves, the grooves make them look a lot like greek columns! Only need to glue in small Caps of sorts as base and capital and you got yourself a nice small collumn!
Two things to consider: 1) You over-thought it -- just pick a cylinder diameter, and apply bricks until you reach the end, inserting custom sized bricks, as needed, to fill in the end gaps; 2) Use empty pill bottles, by cutting off the threaded tops, then Hot Glue them together, end-to-end, using your beveled foam circles as toppers, and bases, skipping the calculations, and just apply bricks until you get close, then insert cut-off bricks as needed to fill in the small remaining gaps. The calculations are too much work, too fiddly, and they require too much precision -- you likely won't make them work, anyway, due to brick length variations... Just glue the bricks on, and cut to size needed, at the end. Otherwise, great video, and inspiration. Cheers!
As I said, that’s normally what I would do. It’s important to try different approaches, even if they don’t work out.
great, i just ask myself why you waste foam for the core of the pillar? why dont you use a toiletpaperroll?
Because I have more foam than I know what to do with....it’s very cheap and often free. This just used scraps.
Another item like wood dowel or plastic pipe would be a good alternative. I’d never use a toilet paper roll it would get crushed so easily.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial use more modpodge😋
Horror check made, con check failed...You I will see the wizard duck behind a pillar, and in 5 sec hear bllluuuuuuccccckkkkk. And immediately there afterwards, the smell in the room changes to peppermint tea. As I do the cantrip smell.
How can you ne a veteran contractor with bad math skills?
-ask a machinist with bad math skills
Hi me again who needed help with minis and I rely like your vids can you make a wetter elemental plz
That female dwarf is stacked...lol
I got to say I don't like the background music one bit. With such streamers and content creators, having background music takes away some of the 'instructional' aspect of your craft, and makes it hard to focus on what you are saying. That's the whole point, is to see and hear how you get it done. Not everything needs music. I would much rather just hear you walk and talk us through it. It's more relatable that way.
I understand that some people have a problem with music in things (there are always a few). Overall music is proven to be beneficial to any form of media, there is a reason it’s often there. At the end of the day I enjoy the inclusion of music and find it improves the editing and pacing so it is here to stay. Thanks for watching anyway.
Nice!!!
