Great Video, you have a knack giving instructions.
I’d like to offer some tips, having designed and sewn for 30+yrs, I’ve picked up quite a bit of knowledge. I’d like to pass on.
1- When working with curves. Either place several pins, joining the two pattern pieces together or baste the pieces, an 1/8” away from the stitching line. Also place the curved piece, next to the feed dogs and decrease stitch length. The feed dogs will aid in feeding the excess fabric. Decreasing the stitch length, also helps in feeding both pieces of fabric uniformly.
2- When sewing the lining, leave approximately 2- 2 1/2” of the seam, without sewing it. Then you can place right sides together, stitch the seam around the circumference, when finished, pull the hat fabric through the open. Yes, small amount of hand stitching, but the results are worth it. Hat band can be attached with an 1/8” top stitch.
Gives very clean and professional results.
I'm trying my hand at my very first hat, the video was great also loved reading your comments as well. I will use all that I have learned from the video and your comments.
@Tiffany's Piece of Cake I am not the video maker but from what I understand is at12:10 no, not through the brim. At 12:45 yes he sewed through the brim but he said 1/4", not 3/4". Hope this helps.

Thanks for the instructions. I will get them in mind!
I love the directions. I changed the order at first to sew the sides on before sewing the end together and i was able to make the corners smoother. Thank you, krista
I love it because some of these caps are so expensive ( this give me the idea how to style my cap) thank you
It's really a helpful tutorial for novice like me.
thank you! i bought a pattern years ago. i hadn't found the brim insert. thanks for the info! also couldn't decide on fabric. i have a dress i made years ago out of a sort of abraham moon tweed. i can get several hats out of it with the lining.
Danke für das tolle Video. So wie Sie es nähen, ist es viel einfacher.
Je suis entrain de réaliser votre casquette pour la première fois tout est très bien expliqué . Merci
This is a brilliant video, thanks for sharing your tips, tricks and pattern. That trick with the bias tape folder is awesome, I can't wait to try it 😀
This is a good video but as future tutorial for the videos you should use a thread that stands out. And maybe different fabrics for the panels. How would I scale the pattens for my a harger head. I have 25 inches circumference and 14 inches over the top ear to ear
You get it on your laptop and then using paintshop pro or similar, increase the size by whatever …. say 25%, then you need to take it to a printing house on a usb and get them to print off the larger size. I am sure there is a different method but that is one way to do it. I scaled it down a lot to make one for a teddy bear
WoW so cool to see how it’s made! I was watching Peaky Blinders and there man were wearing these caps and I was wondering how they are made ! Now I know! Great work!
Peaky blinders where newspaper boy cap. This is what they call cabby flat cap or a beret flat cap.😉
What's impressing is you made this Flatcap on a singer 4423. I have the same exact machine and it's terrible for making hats or sewing curved lines. speed way too fast and the needle always stops in up position.
I don’t know if this will help anyone but I’m pretty certain that my Granda’s flat caps had a snap clasp to hold the overhang in place on the brim, which would allow for adjustment as and when required ie you could unclasp it so that you can pull the hat down further to catch the top of your ears in bad weather.
Look at the way you hold that pencil lead in your finger while you use both hands...whoa Jedi Master
Please make a beret also
Thanks for the vid, I'm really keen to give this a shot!
I'm a bit of a novice; what is the bias tape for? I can't figure out how it affects the finished product.
Would be nice to have written instructions. And also to know how much fabric is needed. Patterns generally have that info.
Nice tutorial thoroughly enjoyed watching
Tried to buy a brim off the site, but they only have ball cap size, and the pattern for this doesn’t quite match up.
Finally I have been struggling with making a good flatcap hat.
Perfecto
The pattern is not available :(
Soy de chile y hablo solamente español, puedes subir los vídeos en español por favor.Están muy bonito tomó que suaves pero no puedo hacerlos porque no entiendo.gracias que estés bien

"Definitely don't give up after one cap"
Amen
Great video! Thank you!
I have just ordered the pattern and I am so ready to make me one. Thanks for this
Thank you. This is a really good how-to. Just a tip: you say access. I think you mean excess. "any excess material"
- Very nice job. I like the Flat Cap. Thanx for sharing.
You're a genius. Great tutorial.
How can I get a hold of a pattern to the flap cap?
Could you be so kind and share the pattern? I would like to download it and try out. Thank ypu ver much! :)

thanks my dad is gonna love it
Ke. Linda y. Voy a hacer una a ciadritos Grazie,!! 👍❣️
Perfect 👍👍
I have one that is too small as I can widen it so it fits bigger mow
Which size is the cap and how can I make it bigger. I need size 60/61
Hey! This is great! But what about sizing? After buying the cap pattern, I realized it's only one size...
I have a combination scanner / printer which allows me to adjust the size (by percentage), when I make photocopies. It's really easy to figure out with any pattern. Just take the size you want. Always divide the number of the size that you want by the number of the pattern you have, then multiply by 100. I believe this one is 58. So if you wanted 56, you need to copy at 96 or 97%, if you want size 62, copy at 107%. Simple.
is the pattern for different head sizes?
Where can I buy the pattern? It is not found amymore in the link.
Could you please give me a new link to download the pattern?
do leather cap and hats !!
so i emailed you twice, not got a reply!
how do you "size" this for different head sizes?
LOVE THIS VIDEO!! I wear hats alot, but normal.peak caps are really annoying. I foresee I will indeed be making alot of these. 😊
Very cool I was just wondering if I can do it with a different types of fabric like west African print
How could I get a hold of the pattern?

Very good! Great teacher!
Excelente aula, obrigada
1/4” Seam allowance on this pattern?
Btw I have a single needle juki machine so these domestic single needle tutorials are clutch! 🙏🏾🙌🏾
six2six Yes, 1/4” is correct for this pattern.
Amazing
Where can I order the sweatband used in your video?
Check the links in the description.
Nice toturial bro... ❤❤❤❤
thanks mate, I'm going to make one for me little kid right away
Thanks
I noticed you don't use buckram. My pattern called for that. It was very difficult to use hense the reason I only made one.
Hello, thanks for the teaching you are giving with your video, how can I send you the molds?
Great tutorial learned a lot; I've not seen binding made and attached like that before!
Hola tbn soy de chile.tienes el patrón de tutorial?
Really love the tutorial but there is no link to download the pattern
Hi, Can i buy One of your caps? What cost estimate? Let me know
What is the largest size on the pattern for this hat (I have a size 8 or 3xl)
undecidedgenius Have you tried this yet? I'm going to give it a go and will let you know if it fits my pumpkin head.
undecidedgenius just did a muslin mock-up. Took me three days to figure out how to attach the back of the sides. The size is tiny-tieny. It sits on my head like a small saucer. If I figure out how to scale it I'll let you know. Considering it took me days to figure out the video, don't hold your breath waiting.
@@capedoryus I just finished making the base of the cap, all except the brim. And, it does not have the fullness of the hat I am attempting to replace with this one. Bummer! I too, am going to try to resize the pattern for my needs and I will let you know if I am successful.
great video - where does one get the sweatband?
Ich habe das Video leider erst heute entdeckt. Ich wollte mir das Schnittmuster kaufen, leider gibt es dieses anscheinend nicht mehr. Das ist sehr schade. Tolles Video. Liebe Grüße
Will your pattern accommodate head size 64 cm or 25.2 inches?
sick ! great tutorial. easy to follow and understand 🙏
does the patterncome in just one size?
Thanks i will try to make one
Amei explicação ótima.
- Nicely done. Thanx 4 sharing.
Trying to find the Bias tape folder you use. It doesn’t show on the capsupplyco site.
Does one size fit all or can you adjust for sizes?
The pattern is literally just 3 pieces. No sizing or instructions. If you have experience with patterns, you may be able to figure out how to extend it if needed.
Me fascinó gracias quedó hermosa 😁
Waw, well done you! Thanks, I know how to do it now ❤👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌
good
kero make me one for my apology I liked the model, how do I get the mold or how do you do what measurements are taken? Thank you very much if you can

how can i make flat cap pattern ? please
Nice 👌👌👌
Queria o molde 😩
TR7S BEAU tissu pour la flat cap , j'aurais voulu voir l 'envers avec le biais posé ,merci
What are the materials needed here
cool video man , well done,
Very nice thank you.
Amigo vc tem PDF grátis..
I love to see something in demin or mix matireal.
Like what kind of problem I might encounter
If you use a thin denim, use the interfacing. If you use a thicker denim that holds its own shape, skip the interfacing. Also, if you're going to use a thick denim, I would adjust the sizing a little and add a lining along with the bias tape.
Great instructions--thanks

- Where is the Bias maker available ??? That piece is invaluable in the sewing room.
I found them on Amazon. They are called belt loop makers. I bought the version made for industrial sewing machines and use it on a Singer home machine using just one attachement screw.
