    Great Video, you have a knack giving instructions.
    I’d like to offer some tips, having designed and sewn for 30+yrs, I’ve picked up quite a bit of knowledge. I’d like to pass on.
    1- When working with curves. Either place several pins, joining the two pattern pieces together or baste the pieces, an 1/8” away from the stitching line. Also place the curved piece, next to the feed dogs and decrease stitch length. The feed dogs will aid in feeding the excess fabric. Decreasing the stitch length, also helps in feeding both pieces of fabric uniformly.
    2- When sewing the lining, leave approximately 2- 2 1/2” of the seam, without sewing it. Then you can place right sides together, stitch the seam around the circumference, when finished, pull the hat fabric through the open. Yes, small amount of hand stitching, but the results are worth it. Hat band can be attached with an 1/8” top stitch.
    Gives very clean and professional results.

    This is a good video but as future tutorial for the videos you should use a thread that stands out. And maybe different fabrics for the panels. How would I scale the pattens for my a harger head. I have 25 inches circumference and 14 inches over the top ear to ear

    • @princessharribluestaffy841
      @princessharribluestaffy841 Před 3 lety +2

      You get it on your laptop and then using paintshop pro or similar, increase the size by whatever …. say 25%, then you need to take it to a printing house on a usb and get them to print off the larger size. I am sure there is a different method but that is one way to do it. I scaled it down a lot to make one for a teddy bear

    What's impressing is you made this Flatcap on a singer 4423. I have the same exact machine and it's terrible for making hats or sewing curved lines. speed way too fast and the needle always stops in up position.

    I don’t know if this will help anyone but I’m pretty certain that my Granda’s flat caps had a snap clasp to hold the overhang in place on the brim, which would allow for adjustment as and when required ie you could unclasp it so that you can pull the hat down further to catch the top of your ears in bad weather.

    • @TheNailEngineer
      @TheNailEngineer Před 3 lety +1

      I have a combination scanner / printer which allows me to adjust the size (by percentage), when I make photocopies. It's really easy to figure out with any pattern. Just take the size you want. Always divide the number of the size that you want by the number of the pattern you have, then multiply by 100. I believe this one is 58. So if you wanted 56, you need to copy at 96 or 97%, if you want size 62, copy at 107%. Simple.
