  • Here are some unbelievable views shot at Walong, on Tehachapi Loop that no longer have access to the public! This location was actually an "Overnight Campground" used by railfans for generations, where they got away with roaming wherever they wanted. In the early 2000's it was closed!
Look for the full DVD at www.cspmovies.com and join us for a look back at the SP in the 1990s and in earlier views of the 1970s. See Coastline action along SoCal shores with mainline and local freight trains. Visit White Hills, Lompoc and Santa Paula branch lines and follow the venerable Saugus Local and see its efficient crew keep schedules for freight customers on Metrolink's busy Saugus Line that was bought from SP. We bring nostalgic SP action in the Tehachapi's with lumber, oil-can, coal-drags and general freight. Remember the days when 5 front and 5 back were the "norm". See the SP power that has been taken away by the 1996 UP-SP merger that has erased so much of the past. More action and views from the San Fernando Valley, Cajon Pass and Beaumont Hill bring you a SP that you can fondly remember

Such a great video! So much to enjoy - classic EMD 2nd generation lash-ups, manned helpers, freight cars with no tagging, classic Tehachapi with wood ties and searchlight signals,. I wish I could have been there. I didn't visit Tehachapi until 2003, and haven't been back since 2009. Thanks for posting this!

It certainly is nice to see freight cars without all of the graffiti we see nowadays.

You can access the loop. However, it has to be done with permission. The Union Pacific does not have the final say though. The loop is mostly on private land, and you can gain access if you know who to contact. If you happen to figure it out, please, ensure you follow all the rules conveyed to you and always be safe and be mindful of our surroundings.

Walong is named for Southern Pacific District Roadmaster W. A. Long.

Good views of the loop are indeed gone. There is an observation platform, but it is in the wrong place. The best perch on a hill nearby is on private property. Fences and warning signs everywhere.
