Children In Norway Can Sign A Form To Change Their Gender (HBO)

- Until this summer, Norway was one of 19 European countries that required transgender individuals to undergo surgery and sterilization before they could legally change their gender. Now, all people - including children as young as 6 - need to do is sign a form, thanks to legislation passed in June. Argentina and Malta are the only other countries that allow minors to transition, but they require them to go to court first.

The kids dont get hormone treatment yet and only get hormone blockers to avoid going through male/female puberty so that they can decide later whether or not they want hormone treatment and/or sex surgery.

That's because we live in a kangaroo democracy where the important descisions are left under the table while we continue to fight over stupid stuff like property tax and toll stations rather than important stuff like this. We've also been basically anally fucked by the EU after Gro Harlem Brundtland (if you though May was bad, she's worse) ignored the democratic vote and got us in the EEA right after we had just voted _against_ joining the EU. Now we have to take it up the ass by accepting basically every directive the EU shits out without having any say at the barganing table. Of course, we could say no, but our politicans are too cowardly to do so. Once you open your eyes, you begin to see how truly cucked Norway has been the last decades, purely at the hands of cowardly and weak politicans, not unlike those of 1920's Germany.

It's actually really easy for children to become fluent in multiple languages if they're raised speaking multiple.
It's much more difficult for someone to learn a new language later in life, but still very possible.

I never played with Dolls as a Child. I literally grew up with 5 Guys, wrestling with them, wearing half pants and ganging up like Guys do. And, I am from India where Gender stereotypes are very much prevelant. Yet, I never had any doubts about my Identity. It never ever crossed my mind.

Norway has laws where gender essentially means nothing legally, so it's not really life altering.

This is just changing legal gender as a person mentioned below it doesn't mean automatic hrt at a young age. Also statistically speaking trans children know their trans at a very young age and denying them that is harmful.
By that logic children shouldn't have a legal gender in the first place. You need to understand that nobody chooses their gender. That's the whole point. We can't choose to just be the gender we were assigned at birth. Believe me, if it was that easy, everyone would.
Changing your legal gender, that is an entry in a document, is not life altering and not permanent

The majority of people commenting are fools. Here are some facts:
1. You still have to wait until age 18 to have any surgical procedures done.
2. Puberty blockers, the first step of hormone therapy, are reversible. They are not making irreversible changes. They are simply "postponing" puberty so that when the child reaches the age where puberty should begin, cross-hormone therapy can be started. By this age, the child is definitely old enough to know their gender.
3. Making a transgender child go through puberty as the wrong gender can severely psychologically damage them. It's better to give the child blockers, allowing them to grow without changing in the wrong ways.
4. What children of families that aren't yours do and are allowed to is none of your business.
They are LEGALLY, NOT PHYSICALLY changing their sex.

Here is my confusion. If we are to assume that gender is a social construct, formed though culture and not biology, you have to accept that what constitutes male/female/masculine/feminine may take any one of an infinite number of forms. Under this assumption, how do you know whether you're male or female? Does your gender change among infinite cultures? Liking to wear pink dresses and long hair is merely adhering to one culture's idea of female. It could well be a male norm in another culture. With that said, I am pro-trans, but the idea that the idea that 'gender is a social construct' is an argument that supports transgenderism is strange. The question "what does it mean to be male/female in the context of transgenderism" hasn't been addressed from a biological perspective much through my media consumption. The "social construct" argument negates the urgency to have the term 'transgender' given the infinite variance in possible gender social constructs across cultures. I don't believe people choose to be transgender. However, the expression of transgenderism manifests itself in adherance to a societal agreement of what is say 'feminine' (i.e. dresses, long hair, manner of speech'). I wonder (if any transgender individual can answer this, please do): Is this adherance: a) reflective of a need to emulate the mannerisms of females in your cultural context, or b) is the social construct argument false and therefore, are the mannerisms we associate with gender, truly reflective of the biological predispositions of individuals as it relates to sex i.e. a transgender female and 'standard' female have the same biological predisposition to cultural manifestations of femininity
yeah the solution to this problem should be to not have gender stereotypes rather to force everyone to adhere to them. the problem in annas life was not what she liked or how she wanted to present, but that it is labelled as girl or boy, when she couldve just been allowed to act however she wanted without being pestered with how its non conforming. i grew up in norway but near the capital instead, being 10 years older than anna, and i had literally none of these problems even tho i was somewhat androgynous/non conforming in my expression and interests. the west of norway is known to be a lot more religious and old fashioned tho

This is good news. It seriously reduces depression and dysphoria in trans people if they start transitioning young. The puberty blockers younger trans kids take are completely reversible and they only start taking hormone supplements once they are older after years of psychiatric observation. The percentages of people regretting transitioning is incredibly low (around 3%) with much of that portion only regretting it due to the onslaught of hatred they face from the rest of the world once they transition. This is especially true for people forced to transition at an older age as puberty has an effect on their body that can be noticeable to others but is also both very expensive and frankly life threatening to undo.
Don't pay attention to the hateful fucks in the comments section. They're just ignorant, regressive and they have nothing else in their life but their pathological bigotry. Instead, read up on what basically every medical professional and institute says on this subject.

How is letting someone be the gender that they truly are a step back? Please explain this logic? (Although there are more and more) but in other countries such as Italy companies find it more profitable to dub the movies but it’s not so profitable in Norway as there isn’t so many people

It is wrong of that Mom to reinforce in her son that he is a girl. Kids question things all the time and that is okay. My son wanted to be a cat when he was little. For weeks he crawled around purring and meowing and then one day he stopped and was a little boy again. I didn't make a big deal of it and it ran it's course.

If a person thinks his/her biological organs are insignificant for his/her real gender - isn't removing these same organs to prove he/she has opposite gender a contradiction to the original statement? How can you choose to go through hormone therapy at an age at which you are considered to unexperienced to choose a party or to drink or to drive? How can you sign something at an age at which you are not allowed to sign contracts? At age 10/11 I was doing a lot of things just to be opposite of the other kids

There is no evidence of major health risks associated with hrt unless you have certain diseases and even then hrt has proven to be beneficial in many circumstances outside of the obvious alleviation of gender dysphoria.

i feel sorry for the kid…. parents failed in correction. Love corrects and walks the hard path. My mother disciplined me when i was wrong, i was a bad kid, needed a lot of spankings. They were always done properly and in love my mother cried many times, discipling me. I believe it paid off. I'm not in prison or dead. Isn't it nice then, that if she grows older and thinks what she did was a mistake she has the right and freedom to change her gender if she feels it is necessary for her to be happy? Or should parents continue forcing their kids to live in a way that is uncomfortable and hurting them. I don't know about you, but from my experience those who feel they actually had a good childhood and not a miserable one will usually be happier in their youth and as adults. The sad reality is that in some places in this world where people are less progressive, people who've changed genders will often feel that they aren't treated similarly, or even mistreated by other people.

I'm fine with kids identifying as other genders but I find letting them transition is a bit of a slippery slope. Although if you hate this kinda stuff and try to force gender roles and kids understand that this is your fault. if you just let go of your pre conceived notions of gender then this kid would just be fine with being labeled as a boy. it is because we so heavily force gender roles that the second a kid does anything that's not manly or feminine everyone starts questioning them and they come to the conclusion that they must be the wrong gender.

I used to love playing with barbies with my cousins, watch teenage romance movies and cry to them, wear pinky stuff now and then, pick girl characters as someone I want to be, listen to girly bands and do much more stuff like these that society considers as being a girl. There was a time period where I questioned my sexuality too. Basically I've done everything that society related to with being a girl. But as I grow old I quickly realised I am sexually attracted to women and nothing more.
Kids and teens cannot make the healthy decisions for themselves. It's not an idea of mine, it's a scientific fact. I became fascist, and then a communist and thought about going to Syria to fight ISIS, listened rap and thought metal was stupid, quickly became a metalhead after that, thought pop music was stupid and started to listen Justin Bieber, defended the most outrages ideas, got tattoos that I now regret etc. this list can go soooo much longer. The point is being a kid or a teenager is a long road where you are trying to find yourself by trying tons of different things. I have nothing than respect for the LGBTQ+ community and I really hope that this girl was right about her feelings and she is happy. But this is outrages and stupid. So many children can regret what they have done when they are adults and they may not be able to admit. This can lead to severe mental health issues, suicides and even being a sexual predator in the future.
We cannot make decisions for our children, just because they think that they are feeling like a different sex. This is just stupid and nothing else...
