A little tip from my side: invest in one of those pressure washer attachments that clean the undercarriage. I have one on a long tube that sprays straight up that lets me clean the undercarriage without laying down or reaching under the car ✌🏼✌🏼
.........and use a creeper if you need to look under the vehicle (if it's on the ground) while you're spraying water. It will keep your back dry.
I never get tired of how child like giddy Alex gets about what he does. Gotta appreciate that.

All in here with the cram the van with cans! One thing to consider. Food shelf centers have strong purchasing power for food. You could have “virtual cans” as an option too such that the money would help the recipients buy more too! Great idea!!!!!

Pinch clamps: the crimpers are so worth having in your toolbox. Don't ruin your other tools. And if you get a set of crimpers, resist the urge to use them as wire cutters or anything else. Oeticker.

I was here for what i think was the beginning of this channel, and i gotta say i love that you and the channel both didnt change and still making the same good old vids that the channel started with!!
Cool video as always man! FYI on the driveshaft subject, you may have a hard time finding a shop that can make a one-piece driveshaft for something with that long of a wheelbase. The amount of strength you gain is nominal when compared to the added U-joint angle increase during suspension travel especially at the rear diff. The factory unit is fairly robust, considering its a 3500 chassis (they're all the same for diesel truck and vans) but if you really wanted to upgrade for strength, you could have someone make you a performance 2-piece that would probably be just as reliable and less intensive as a single driveshaft conversion would. It would also be easier to adjust pinion angles with having more pivot points and I'm sure there are companies out there that build them for higher-hp HD trucks.
Just my opinion though. Looking forward to seeing how this project turns out! Really unique and you had me at "boosting" an LS Express Van lol

ALEX! GET YOURSELF A BETTER TRANSMISSION COOLER! THERE'S A LOT OF BETTER AFTERMARKET OPTIONS! It's so understated the effects of a decent trans cooler can have on the life of your transmissions! My F150 work truck has gone through 4 transmissions in the last 540k miles as I tow agricultural equipment to farms around AZ, the cooler it has goes into the radiator and back out in a small loop like the one in the express van, the gentleman that built the last transmission for me suggested that I go with a B&M super chiller transmission cooler in series with the coolers that it already has and I'm very thankful that I listened to his advice, the last transmission I had installed has lasted me over 180,000 miles so far with no signs of slowing down and clear fluid! My transmission temps dropped from around 230-190 to well under 170-13 0 on average, the truck doesn't hesitate as much as it did after long drives either, and my fuel mileage went up, (surprisingly as it's the original 2v 5.4 triton), please invest in a good transmission cooler as it makes a difference!

A trick I learned while a mechanic on rusty nuts/bolts is after soak/sit to use a hand ratchet and actually tighten the bolt JUST until you hear a crack, then the correct direction to remove. After learning that trick, I haven't had a single stud strip out.

My dad bought a garage kept 1972 Chrysler New Yorker from a widower. The car hadn’t ran in several years. We towed it home, rebuilt the carburetor, new battery, new tires. Changed fluids. That car was literally 22 feet long! It would seat 4 in front and 4 in back! Best part is it came with a 440 big block and was a lot faster than it appeared. Most of the sports cars back then had barely 200 horsepower due to all the smog regulations. This thing had 375 horse and 450 torque according to the manual. We tuned on it, dual exhaust, and it outran most of the sports cars. On the Highway with cruise control it got 22-23mpg! We all called it the tank.
Chuck a couple of driveshaft safety loops/hoops on them. That way if it does go bang, you're not going to rip the floor to bits.
Alex, I got to say, outside of your endless knowledge of automobiles, you are an incredibly talented person. If anyone deserves the kind of success you've achieved its definitely Peter.

Those are good hard running vans. I drive one at work with 211000 miles on it and if I'm not watching, it'll cruise at 90-100 mph and not feel like it. Great van !!!!!!

I used to drive a 2500 express van for work with the 6.0. Always wanted to turbo/supercharge one!😂
Actual suggestion for the build: ridiculous alternator/dual/triple battery set up, and race car style leads on the front and rear bumper so instead of having to rely on jump packs, your vehicle has a system designed for jumping and charging vehicles. It will be used for rescue, after all?
Make sure you get the bench Row for an actual 15-passenger express. The rear bench row from the extended 12 passenger will fit, with some force, but it still doesn't quite sit right. Don't ask me how I know. 😂
I used to work for a van rental company, vans were our bread and butter. I'd pick a Chevy Express over a Ford Econoline or Transit any day.
when I flush the stock coolers I push a little cleaner in and then blast it with air.... it helps break things up faster than just pushing the whole can through and waiting till it starts to clear up.. the violent impact from the flush cleaner and air get it going much faster. I zip tie the hose on both ends and poke a hole in the hose and then shove the blow gun tip inside the hole and shove cleaner and blast and just keep alternating cleaner,air,cleaner,air rinse and repeat.
Eye protection? Safety!! You ca always make your own drain plug. Drill it, drain oil, remove, clean, weld nut inside and bolt with seal on outside.
That’s so killer! A 15 passenger van that will be able to blow the doors off some cars!! Lol! It would be super cool if you would make it to the local cars and coffee around my way in NY! They do toy drives and food drives and Van full of cans would be perfect! Not to mention the fact that it is a boosted van full of cans!!! LOL!! Road and Track will be there I believe on the 22nd or 29th.
I miss my old M van. Like you said, the family vacations were great with the extra room for the kids. Also, you should be using safety glasses man. Would be a shame to have you lose an eye.
When i was a kid my grandpa had an ex-telephone company van , a normal (shorty) chevy C15 they bought from AT&T. They stuffed a 454 in it. My god, what fun times. Your van's makin' me smile!

My Saturdays always exciting and fun to watch since I have never done mechanical work and started to with some basics.
Most 80's Ford, Chevy, and dodge vans came with a one piece driveshaft, what I recommend if you can find one in a pick your parts place, grab one off the same Chevy type van but of a 80's year and modify it to fit. I dunno if it'll help but that's just my recommendation and other people might have better ideas but it's what I do since parts can be a bit expensive

My Road trips with 6 other siblings back in 80s- early 90s was going to grandparents 1 hour away. We didn't go on vacations.
I am ALL about this build. My company performs conversions, so I spend my entire week talking, selling, working on and driving full size vans!

Family road back in late 80's. We used a 77 Chevy 1ton pick-up 3+3 with a 350. Six of us and the family cat. Motorcycle strapped to the front bumper, had a canopy so two of us hung out in the box to stretch out and sleep and pass cold beverages to dad lol. Had knobby bias ply tires and two blew on the trip. Long wait for a replacement in the heat in the middle of nowhere. Great trip
