Asia and BJ the first time I heard this song was in a piano bar in San Francisco. it was a gay bar and a handsome black guy was at the piano. He played this song. All these years later I remember how beautiful it was. Learning to love yourself really is the greatest love of all.

Original music was written by Michael Masser for the movie "The Greatest" staring Muhammad Ali. The lyrics were written by Linda Creed and in 77 George Benson recorded. But all three versions are great in there own way!

This is a wonderful song that reminds me of being a teen in the 80s. The musical melody is a rip off though of Gordon Lightfoot's, 'If you could read my mind.' He had actually brought a lawsuit for plagiarism but later dropped it because he felt it was having a negative effect on Houston and he knew it wasn't her fault and she wasn't named in the lawsuit.

Whitney Housten & Mariah Carey both have some of the most beautiful voices in the world, so it's hard to say who's the best, although songs like this show that Whitney puts even more heart and emotion into it, which then tips the scales.
By the way, the singer from your credits could easily be in the top 5, it's always nice to hear, even if I unfortunately do not know who this artist is.
Such a great song. So glad you got to it but you should go watch the video now. It's one of Whitney's first huge hits and it shows her reflecting on her own childhood. Her Mom actually plays the mother of the child actress playing Whitney in the video, too.
