- In this episode, we take things a little further with this PC as I upgrade the CPU from the Ryzen 5 3600 to the Ryzen 9 3900X. Huge thanks to Bryan for such a great deal on this CPU, and for sending over loads of other cool bits that we can use in future projects! I love being able to catch up with Tom's fun tech adventures! I build my gaming pc around the same time he built his original one and am sort of thinking of upgrading the guts and reusing my case because I have so many harddrives plus a cd drive. Thanks for sharing!!!

@@ItsMyNaturalColourhey don't laugh! My first system could play Doom only in a postage size resolution and I had almost top of the line setup at the time 🤷♂️
the r9 3900X is technically 2 r5 3600 on a single CPU package. My old setup was the R9-3900X and my wife is currently on a r5-3600 (she'd going to an intel i7 12700K when I get to it, parts are here.)

This prompted me to run Geekbench on my gaming PC and new M3 MacBook Pro. Shockingly, the MacBook Pro destroys the 5800X in my PC. Less surprisingly the 4080 in the PC absolutely, utterly destroys the graphics in the M3 lol.

The Apple chips are so damn powerful, it's staggering... but yes, on the graphics front they cannot touch the big high end PC stuff! I'm quite intrigued to see how that develops over time. How fast will the graphics in Macs get as the generations progress.
When i saw you put that stock cooler on it i was thinking it's gonna be loud and hot and i'm honestly impressed it isn't. I tried that same cooler on a 5800x and it was reaching 90C lol
I was shocked too! I was expecting a much higher temp under full load.
@@ItsMyNaturalColour Also forgot to mention,the USB cord for the cooler is to be able to control the RGB with Cooler Master's own software on motherboards that don't have RGB headers. The other connector is actually meant to be used on motherboards that have a "JARGB" or "RGB" connector on them and the RGB is controller by the motherboard's software,in this case it would be Gigabyte AORUS Master if i'm not mistaking. With the USB cord you can control the light ring around the fan too,but with the other connector you can't

Tom I have so much missed you Jess, Ell, Arlo & Odie!!! Most all of my comments on here are deleted & shadow banned (I can see it but no one else can) This started many years ago when my profession of Christian faith would find it's way into my personal comments to my friends who had channels. Always sharing my joy & love - never any other type of comments regarding my faith. I also am a US veteran w a family history of men who fought in every conflict going back to the American Revolution & many of my ancestors died for America over our entire history. As such I am a Patriot, law abiding citizen who Loves America. Literally millions of people just like me have been either banned from this platform or have our comments deleted or shadow banned. .I have started copying my comments & emailing them to my friends who have channels so they can see for themselves what is going on. They end up posting my comments themselves & they appear!!! Enough of that. I just want to thank you for coming back to YT. I missed the Christmas shows this year & last....I (along with tens of thousands of your friends/fans) so enjoy learning & being entertained whenever you upload!!!! I was with a young man who was from the Mother Country & spoke The Queen's English. (it will always be The Queen's English to me!!) & I mentioned when something went well on the job - I was "chuffed" !!! He lit up. He asked me where I learned that phrase. I told him all about you Jess & your wonderful family & channel. We are now best mates. Tom I am not a gamer so I never watch gaming uploads. BUT you young man are so interesting that you make this subject entertaining for me. My son loves video games. He now watches your channel. Sadly CPU cores are meaningless in modern gaming. Most new titles are depending of single core performance. That's why you can see some new, but low end Intel for example crushing some older high-end/high-core Ryzen CPUs.
Absolutely! Money is much better spent getting the best possible GPU, at least when buying new. With these slightly older builds and second hand hardware, it gives a bit more wiggle room to be less sensible.
