I think the general consensuses is that The Big One doesn't actually travel at 85mph as it once claimed. I think Arrow themselves claimed it was 74.5mph.

1 foot? Everyone knows it's 20 foot taller with Blackpools misleading "above sea level" height! It is only actually 213 feet tall! We could always use Blackpools spurious way of measuring coasters heights though, nearby Thorpe Village is 66 feet above sea level which using BPBs dodgy calculations makes Hyperia 299 feet tall!
Blackpool Pleasure Beach are the only ones still believing their own claim haha

Pleasure beach was,nt bothered when the Big One lost its title for being the tallest in the world,but seem bothered for losing its title for being the tallest in the UK.I don,t get that.
That’s a good point. But marketability will only apply to the UK as that’s where their target market is visiting from. It’s the same reason why Hyperia and Merlin were only interested in the UK height record perhaps! 🤔

It’s not that deep mate, just a bit of friendly competition. Also, to your point about BPB spending money to maintain their rides, they have been doing that. Grand National has been mostly re-tracked, Big Dipper has a lot of track replaced, Valhalla was refurbished, The Big One has been getting re-tracked for several years now.

Cant see anyone driving from London to Blackpool to ride the big one.
I rode it the year it was made when I was 14, and even then, aside from the initial drop, I thoughf it was an extremely boring ride.
Thorpe park has a ride that beats it in every way (if it ever reopens 😂) as well as 5 other great coasters and amazing flat rides.
Blackpool has nothing 🤣
The Big One has a great first drop… but that’s it haha.

Yes Hyperia is embarasing for Merlin, But even without it, Thorpe is far superior to Pleasure Beach.
And the Big one is 10 second thrill followed by 2 minutes of boredom.
@@SteveDavies80I think BPB has some good rides ie infusion icon the big one revolution avalanche and a few others and living in blackpool I'd much rather jump on a plane to portaventura in salou than jump on a train to Thorpe Park...better rides than both.. cheaper...and the weather's alot better 😂 worth going if you've never been

If you live in Blackpool, its nice to have that on your doorstep. Its better than my local theme park Paulton Park.
But Blackpool hasnt been on my radar for many years. If I fancy a day out at a good UK park, Its Towers or Thorpe for me.
