  • I see too many people starting their runs with poor technique! In this video I discuss how and why it's so important to start your runs with proper setup, so you can Play Better Paintball!

Good video. Few players drill nor execute this properly. Think of it as nearly the same technique as running a 40-year dash. In fact, paintball players should study just that, "40-Yard Dash Start Technique" (search that in CZcams videos) and the only real differences are you have a marker in your back hand and your eyes are up to see the field as you run out. Wrong technique causes you to switch stride at the start of your run to get your arms and legs in natural rhythm, costing time and giving your opponents slightly more time to put a ball on you. Good video, keep them coming! --Charlie Givens, head coach of the MLKings.

People are catching on. :) Been coaching this locally for years! 3-point 40-yard dash start from football. Tons of sprint coaches that aren't paintball focused doing the same motions!

Just came back to tournament play this season after a 4 year break and this is something I've been drilling NON-STOP; I've also been trying to push this upon our newer players that want to play front positions. Excellent Video my man!

Good tip, seen a mechanics video on the same thing few years ago, can’t remember who did it, but always worth reminding.

Thanks for sharing this! I’m going to have to work on my start stance. Great advice

I would just add that I prefer to with my gun in my left hand when going out left.

I start with my left arm and left leg the same side because, i'd like to have that first power stride, somehow to me it's more comfortable actually

You're 100% right, it is more comfortable! But just like standing is more comfortable than squatting, starting in a more powerful (higher potential of acceleration) position sacrifices ease for higher work output.
Starting 'traditionally' lets us reach sideways, using more muscle mass to lift the gun to the start box. Starting this way puts that weight on less muscle, making it more difficult to hold it back, but the benefit is that weight swings through easier and the limbs balance the body perfectly, keeping all force directed exclusively to forward, balanced movement 🏃‍♂️🔥💨

Does Usain Bolt or professional spinters do the "bounce"? Nope. They dont. So why are we doing it here? It is proven that a good start can give you a half a second better start than your opponent.

    • @playbetterpaintball

I believe the reason they don't bounce before the start is because zero movement is allowed prior to start. A bounce technically can help because of the stretch-reflex, similar to how a short dip before a jump helps you jump higher as opposed to starting from a static position.
