Matt really said “Everyone leave the table, it’s my turn, I want to play”
I love matt as a player so much, really glad he's getting some time on the other side of the table
He really is a _brilliant_ roleplayer!
Loved him in Pirates of Leviathan, where he plays a depressed rat barbarian. Oh, and that one-shot he played with Anjali, playing as a himbo warrior with a Latino accent... don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic the crew have been inviting more Latino folk to play, but it surprised me to hear him mimic one of our accents effectively, since it's not one featured here often
Yeah, its why even if I have some level of lack of enthusiasm about the story shift, as the forever Dm for my group I can't help but applaud this maneuver. Take some self care Matt, you earned it.

A tip for the people who miss the time stamps, Flando posts their timestamps on reddit because they are having trouble with CZcams hiding their comments. What I’ve been doing while the problem is going on is just copying them from reddit and commenting myself since you can still see your own comments despite the timestamps not coming through to other people. Hopefully this problem will be solved because we all miss Flando very much. ❤
Can you please give a link to the correct reddit thread?

"What makes you think apathy is any better than disdain." - Laudna.
This really sums up the reason to fear Predathos awakening.
Not just that... if this awful thing wakes up, so, SO many people on Exandria are going to be powerless to resist the Imperium, and not enough are going to otherwise have the means. If the Weave Mind get what they want, they essentially become the "new gods" of Exandria and they will completely destroy and brutalize everything.
The lion hunting the fawn might not be interested in the ants beneath it's feet, but it could still step on the anthill.
@@Laban6112It's even worse than that. If the gods are gone, all the protections the've woven around Exandria will vanish with them, every horror they've ever sealed away will be unleashed upon a people now stripped of divine assistance and the strife of the outer planes (like the Blood War) and the wider cosmos will start spilling onto exandria.
So not only will the lion trample the anthill, it will open up the path for anteaters, arvaarks and a myriad other insectivores to ravage the ant colony at their leasure
@@Laban6112 makes me think of the Expanse. Great tv show.
Yeah Marisha just hit the nail in the head with that one,
All this Aeor talk reminds me Fcg never got to see where he actually comes from. Man…
Yes. 😮💨There are SOOOO many intriguing backstory threads and potential directions for that unique character that just... aren't available anymore. Friggin' Otohan.
Official rules Warforged are humanoids to my knowledge. And the Hellls have a druid with fifth level spell slots. They have parts of FCG.
Complications to this are many. Who knows if Aeormatons count as humanoids. Only Matt knows whether this spell could work. FCG may have a soul and be unwilling. Sending is back online but resurections, or in this case reincarnations may not be (outside of Ruidis).
I have a feeling Sam won't go for this option, but what do I know. It jusf seems pretty on the table.
@@EvilLobsterKingI think without the power source there's no bringing them back. Which is what I think Matt meant when he asked "you know what this will mean right?" When Sam explained what he was doing.
@@Sp4rt4nSl4yathat is a very good point. The spell Reincarnate does specify creating a body and then calling the soul to it. Which I would interpret as bringing back FCG into a meat body. But having watched several hundred hours of Matt DMing I can totally see him vetoing this for a number of reasons. I am very much just looking at this from a rules perspective. It would be very weird narratively if they relatovely easily (getting the materials from any number of the high level characters, including druids, at the encampment) brought their friend back right after such a sacrifice.
@@EvilLobsterKingI think if they could find another power source they could do it. That might be the epilogue one shot.

Anyone else thinking Ludinous is not actually trying to free Predathos, but going back and forth to Aeor to cut through the adamantine magical weave so that he can absorb predathos through a much more efficient version of the harness????
This has been my theory since before the harness was even introduced
Damn! Great theory. At the very least, I've always thought that he wanted the gods gone so that Predathos would go seek more gods to eat in other realms so he could ascend like the Matron.
@@camclemons been thinking the same thing. It’s been a reoccurring theme with high power wizards in Matt’s world.
It's Dr. Doom's play from the 1986 Marvel Secret Wars so it tracks.
I think Mercer has been very clear that Ludinus seems sincere and like a true believer in his own revolution

Opal about Fy’ra Kai. But also, potentially about herself if she falls to Lolth.
And also also, echoes of Liliana and Molly.
Opal is such an incredible, sad, badass, funny, brilliant character in EXU and I'm so happy to see Amy play her again in this campaign as well
“It just wants to leave” yeah sure Liliana, the GOD EATING ENTITY that hasn’t eaten in over a thousand years just wants to leave this plane of existence
I'm sure it'll be fiiiine.
It'll just eat a few Gods, leaving no long-term negative effects, and then it'll just be full and never need to eat again.
@@CodeNameX001well to be fair. If you were starving how would you do it? Overhunt your territory then find some other source of big game or eat ants before or after the hunt.
It must have been quite a unique experience for Matt, going from DM to player at the table within the same episode
Just got to this moment. I skipped their little game in the end cos I couldn't get away with the low energy DMing (it's cool if that's your thing but it puts me to sleep) so I'm kinda lost😅 hoping it doesn't last long.

@@DellikkilleD Listen for it, is that taps in the background?
So the Vanguard and many others can understand that God's can manipulate, lie, make you feel good, etc. for their own goals but can't fathom the thought that Predathos could be doing the same to them.
It's not that they can't fathom it, they refuse to think about it, because it would mean admitting they're wrong. They want to believe, so they shut their eyes to the truth.
It's a cult, with all of the toxic hallmarks of a cult! ❤🙏🥺
I find it more ridiculous that they're afraid the world leaders would kill the rudeus born. Apart from the Dwendallian Empire, the other nations are pretty lawful good. They're also friends with Vox Machina so they would be well protected in Whitestone.
Alexa, what is cognitive dissonance?
Consider they hate the gods and how they have been used by them like you said and they can’t do anything about it. Someone comes along and tells them they can do something about it. They might die but the gods will die as well.
@@piersoncepeda4010 Fair, but I see someone with the mindset or experience of someone like Liliana or Bordo more willing to die by Predathos if it means the end if the gods (and/or a better life for Imogen in Lilianas case) than newly recruited vanguard who may have realized (or not) that they are in over their head, especially those who have been promised and expect a better life afterwards and I think even Ludinus would prefer to live through the whole thing to reap the benefits of being one of the most powerful beings on Exandria without the existence of the gods.
Matt’s reaction to the Luxon conversation was a dance of beautiful subtle panic behind his eyes, the only crack in the set mask of a professional

Godddddd I love the confrontation with Liliana. It's *chilling*. Her mind's even more affected than Predathos than I realised. But she represents the indoctrination and sunk fallacy that gets people into the Ruby Vanguard. She's a dark mirror to the Bell's Hells, each with their own draw towards an unhealthy power to escape their shitty situations. Everyone had banger lines against her. Fantastic character. Fantastic antagonist. Love how the Bell's Hells at this point can't trust her but know how good it would be if they could use her.
yeah, i can't believe she is truthful saying she didn't know the cult would do horrible things. i hope it's a ploy or something. Matt is playing her weird a bit.
@@Marpaws That absolutely reads as sunk cost fallacy/self-denial to me. Can you imagine how desperate Liliana would be to justify her 2 decades in the Ruby Vanguard at this point, especially to her daughter? How the bar for "horrible things" would have risen and risen and risen for her? Maybe she did try to mitigate or keep out of things. Maybe she had to start turning some blind eyes to justify to herself the necessity of her being there. It's an excellent reflection of the kind of circular thinking and adjustment of boundaries cults instil in their victims.
I will say that Liliana might not be hopeless... not yet. She DID come to save her daughter. But it felt good to see her finally be forced to reckon with the price of her choices.
Let's hope she doesn't betray the Exandrian side and Imogen isn't forced into a horrible position.

1:32:01 Orym is struggling. Liam said in March's 4sd that Orym wanted to shield everyone, and he was willing to make a pact with Nana Morri for that. Despite everything, FCG still died to the person who killed his family.
Technically, they did all make it off the moon safe and alive. That little lake portal brought them back to exandria for like a day and a half and so Morrigan’s side of the bargain has been completed.

One thing I don't get is why they didn't point out to Liliana that things like charm person exist. In the world of D&D, feeling in your soul that something is right doesn't mean that it is. That's one way to really shake her confidence, make her actually analyze the risks from an outside perspective. "What if you are charmed? What if that feeling of comfort and rightness is an illusion? Does the other evidence match? What if Predathos is magically lying to you?"
Yeah I was getting strong Dominate Person vibes, like she can articulate why she should leave Ludinus but there’s always a reason to stay

@@alliryan326 Yeah, a 9th level Geas could fit the bill. Though, with Mercer, I suspect something custom instead that's not any specific spell word for word, but is a similar spell like effect from Predathos.
Reasoning someone out of a magical charm is probably a lot harder than you're imagining. Just think about how hard it is to convince someone that they are in fact in a cult. They have all the information in the world about what a cult is and how they operate, and yet... nuh-uh, not a cult in their eyes. I'm not dissing Abriya's dming but I was deep in my feels and not emotionally ready for corny silliness. the transition was rough for me lol
Not a fan of all the ‘how does that feel’ or ‘describe how that feels’ it slows the game so much
Spoilers for the second half
Actually, Morrighan casting Haste on Opal would be kind of genius, because it's a concentration spell, and concentration can be dropped at any moment. So she could've waited until the beginning of Opal's turn and dropped the concentration right in its beginning, forcing Opal to skip two rounds (when the spell ends, the target can’t move or take actions until after its next turn, as a wave of lethargy sweeps over it).
Oh, that's clever.
That's actually genius I just don't know about the "Choose a willing creature that you can see within range" part I'm not sure she would be willing (how would she know in character its a beneficial spell?)
@@Blubbermage generally Haste is viewed as a beneficial spell (it gives you stuff, including AC bonus, so why would you refuse it), so yeah, I think she'd take it, it would come down to accepting or not the effects of the spell (it's a "willing" creature, not a "friendly" or "non-hostile" one, so it gives just enough wiggle room)
@LisaGrimm-LG I was saying in character how would she know? Nobodies character yells out "I'm casting haste on you"
@@Blubbermage how do they always know the spells that are being cast on them are beneficial or not?)
3:06:40 2 points of 'scrapey damage' is just so funny to me idk why lol. It's slashing, bludgeoning, and piercing damage all at the same time, fuck resistances scrapey damage is OP.
I don't know what it is, but no matter how many times I hear that intro music in my headphones, I _still_ get chills at certain beats in it.
*whispers very softly in your ear* How do you want to do this?
It wasn't until now that I realized the common thread to most of the team. Something they can all relate to.
Laudna was reanimated to be used as a vessel for Delilah's return.
Ashton was imbued with the shard of a Titan to be used as a vessel for the resurgence of Titan power
We learned today that Ruidusborn like Imogen are vessels for Predathos to be used for his awakening.
Fearne was born under the red moon because her father wanted her to be a vessel in this way.
Even Orym, who uses himself as a vessel of grief, following the path he believes his father and husband would have wanted him to go.
FCG, the most obvious example as something created for the use of others, found a deeper meaning to his life. His friends. And chose his own path.
Though Chetney is the weakest example of this in my mind, he also finds himself to be a vessel of this werewolf curse he has. Something he didn't willingly ask for, but something he embraced. Which is why I feel he's the most adjusted of them all.
Something was done to each of them in order to become poker chips in a game others were playing. They were all made to be vessels, used to serve something 'higher.'
Me, listening to this while I play video games: la, la, la la la
Aabria: "HI, WELCOME BACK FROM THE BREAK"
Me: SURPRISED PIKACHU FACE
o=
FCG's heroic sacrifice reminded me of the similar heroic sacrifice from Dinobot in Transformers: Beast Wars (the appropriately named episode: "Code of Hero"), but specifically his final words.
SPOILERS FOR A 25 YEAR OLD TV SHOW INCOMING
In FCG's final moments, they thought of their friends and how they made them feel alive. I couldn't help but remember Dinobot's final words to his friends and allies:
"Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good and let me be judged accordingly. The rest is silence."
But why? Dingbat is a very pretentious Shakespearean warrior obsessed with destiny and free will. FCG didn't use this theme, despite being a robot and a follower of the change bringer. He could have used this theme a little more and cut back the bad jokes about 50%.
Wow, this sent me down a trip through memory lane.
Goes hard
@@jackalcoyote8777 the question "Why not?" springs to mind.
@@jackalcoyote8777because for however different they might be, they are sacrifices. I was mostly reminded of the end of Red Vs Blue season 13. Because tha finale had a dramatic heroic sacrifice. It is just how the human mind works
Me: “hooray! I’ve finally caught up after falling behind for months!”
The episode:
I also managed to catch up just AFTER probably the episode with the highest consequences to date.
Oh. Sorry. 😢
I got spoiled on episode 91 on TikTok and had to catch up 20 episodes through recaps to see the full playout 😅
I like that Matt kicks out the players so he can relax for a bit and just be a player him self
Robbie: "He (Dorian) has been working on his nicknames."
Me: Yeah, hanging out with Chetney will do that.

Poor Liam. I'd feel so bad if all my fans are doing is woobify and baby my characters. Why do guys want him to be one dimensional so badly?
I'm not trying to baby Orym and I also don't want him to be one dimensional. I love how fleshed out everyones characters are but I also eat angst for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I love to rewatch angsty emotional moments in oder to get my feels in. Especially when it's so incredibly well role played by all of them all the time
god, he apologized for feeling bad because it's been harder on Imogen! D: he's just the best guy, c'mon!

Grim t-shirt idea. Have an image of the smoldering remains of FCG with the text "It's not a smiley day" over it
@@sima4162 I would love that.
The Opal vs. Laudna fight is going to be insane. It's either going to happen in the campaign or in an arena match. Either way it is going to happen and I know it. I just hope it gets animated.
I wonder of Ludinus plans to have Predathos take a vessel, and then asborb them through a reworked harness so he takes Predathos' power into himself.
I doubt it. That would take balls so big you’d notice them dragging on the ground as he walked.
@@jackhutton5078well he is a few centuries old, they're probably dragging into the Underdark anyway 😂

Ludinous is almost certainly a diligent student of the Evil Overlord ruiles, but I also susect that it's been a long time since he met an energy field he sincerely believed was bigger than his own head.
@@crouchingmarker He's definitely read the list but hes missed no.38 when he left orym alive
ever since orym used the sending stone to talk to dorian and dorian mentioned stuff with opal being complicated, i've been dying to know what was up with all of the crownkeepers. very very cool that we are getting to see them in the main campaign, i am beyond excited!
i also love aabria's dming, especially the way she asks the characters questions (who does opal see as the biggest threat?, what are dariax and dorian most afraid of happening in this moment?) to inform her storytelling
I love Aabria's vibe, but goddamn does this group take forever to run their turn. Also not a big fan of how often she takes descriptions of player feeling and action from them.
I wish she had briefed Opal pre game on what it means to run a bad guy. Happens everything I have a character get taken over, dominated, or otherwise . The player begins to deliberately do weak attacks and it takes away from the drama.
@@cthomashand everyone is entitled to their own opinion but im not sure what yours has to do with my original comment
I dig her storytelling style. Feeling like they are gathering forces and we need the Crown Keepers.
@@KnicKnac Agreed! I am also wondering what FRIDA and Prism and Daenna have been up to and if they will play any part in this
@@marit2907 True.
I really tried to make it all the way through this one, but I just couldn't. I really want the A Team back, especially on the heels of such amazing episodes!
Big credits to Matt for what was revealed this episode! Kinda felt like the arrival at Ruidus was the endgame and I was struggling to see a way in which returning to exandria before the big showdown would be interesting. But I really love the idea of this new potential Aeor arc! Might even bring some secondary closure or interesting context to FCG’s sacrifice with the whole aeromaton factotum!
I was not expecting the second half of this episode.
Why is no one Talking about How we just learned the history of the Luxon beacons like now we know what they are like WTF
I fell asleep.
Matt either said go for whatever or more like Matt. Preplanned all of it and had lots of one on ones with her bc let’s be honest this is his life’s work and everyone knows it and wouldn’t try to ruin it, just mildly troll in less critical spaces. Even Brendan was on eggshells because he didn’t want Matt to have to harmonize his own lore as a byproduct of any straying. Abria respects Matt too much to go off rails with core lore, chroma dragon spas and dickgems are on the table however
it was extensively covered in C2, so it's not new to a large portion of the audience
Was this quote from Opal forbidding 'Dorian and Dariax need a spinoff.
Abria replies with a shrug 'it would have to be in the afterlife.'
I would NOT be happy with the DM describing how my character is feeling in every moment. Since you seem to know better than me I might as well leave the table lol
“Its called Aeor” WHAT DO YOU MEAN HES AT THE CITY IN THE FUCKKUNG SUEJDIWHZISNDNEIE BROOOOO MATTTHEEWWWWW
Love that Robbie is wearing a Dorian pin or sticker 😊
Unironically, hasting opal would have potentially been a really smart move, hit her with the ol' haste and drop. Buy yourself a full free turn. It's a gimmick, cheesy and funny, and it would have worked.
Not only would it have worked but Erica would have got $20 out of it
I hope Aimee is okay 😅 hope she's having fun
She did not look like she was having fun at all, and who can blame her.
She sat there for 3 hours doing nothing on her own, no she didn't have fun
This is why I avoid the EXU stuff. Conductor Aabria says all aboard and takes everyone down the railroad, even if they don't want to.
@@lordpepper6932we must have watched completely different episodes because she was cracking jokes and making decisions the entire time.
@@Sp4rt4nSl4yai see you criticism, but please realize that short campaign arcs need a lot of railroading unlike long campaigns. I'm sure Aabria DMs differently in longer campaigns

Not sure if it was the greatest choice to get away from our main party, to see what the crown keepers are doing, right after one of the characters died.
But I understand that this was likely planed weeks in advance.
If nothing else, I think they should have played this stuff in advance, so the team could reunite, and then they could do the whole "what have you been up to?" and cut to a "flashback". It was jarring ending on a cliffhanger of sorts, but instead of building anticipation with it, it was just an awkward segue to a disjointed story.
Yeah i dont like Aabria as a DM, despite loving the party. I'd rather have had this as a seperate oneshot instead of being forced into a CR episode..

It seemed like the main cast needed a break too. Intense sessions like that can weigh heavily on a person.

I'm so lost. I don't know these characters at all
It's the Exandria Unlimited playlist. Ferne and Orym were originally part of this group with Dorian. They're why Dorian was with Bell's Hell's in the beginning. Getting caught up shouldn't be too difficult as they only had a mini campaign and not a full fledged 90+ episode arc to get through.
“Don’t worry, you still have to do homework about characters you still won’t give a shit about”
Lol
I also don't know them but for me it's not really a problem, I think they set the stage pretty well for the new party
Since these characters have nothing to do with the story at all, I wouldn't worry about it. Its likely because of scheduling behind the scenes that this decision was made.
Man just when Bells Hells got off the moon and lose a member we cut to this.
Im not a fan of this pacing and it hurts to say as a fan from C1

I've never seen chat so salty
Same.
Live chats are are always a shitshow.
As someone that only has only watched the main Critical Role show and has no idea who most of these people are, I hope this is quick.
I’ve only commented a couple times since CZcams started… but what Ashley said needs more attention.
“It’s never too late to leave” is amazing advice that everyone should hear from someone they trust and respect. It’s universally true and widely applicable.
Wouldn't it be funny for FCG to sacrifice themself for the Bells Hell from Otohan only for them to get TPK at the key on the Exandrian side?
I’m so confused by the second plot…
Spoiler-ish for just after the break.
Maybe... just maybe... Matt expected to TPK the last time and that's why they arreanged for the other crew to step in. Just to be sure, so they had content to publish. And they didn't want to send them home without having played.
(It was a quite the whiplash because we (and the party) were still in the middle of the grief. And I would have liked a bit more announcement, time to adjust to this group switch. But other than that, I'm on board with it. I want to see where this goes.)
Matt had to carry us from the tears of laughter "hotdog Marisha" to the tears of sadness recap. This titanic effort alone deserves an award.
Man, if I had known Matt would decide to flip the script again, I would have caught up on EXU while waiting for the new episode. I didn't know enough about these characters except Dorian to care about them
I wish there was a heads up. There is so much content, it's a big ask that we keep up on it all and a bit presumptuous to assume we will.
I watched some EXU, but I don't remember the rabbit girl, so I missed something somewhere.
