This to me was the best of the 3. Great framing, and j mac was so amazing. Gotta watch glass now. Btw im a philly kid to born n raise in kensington. Much brother love....#phillyrepresent
Can’t wait! 😎
As far as being real, it is. Check out the new documentary "Crazy, Not Insane."
And, yes, Glass is definitely worth watching.
Watch trash humpers
I seriously dont think McAvoy gets enough credit for his acting skills. He should at least have been nominated for this!
He’s crazy good!
Agreed
He won some minor awards for it - mtvs performance of the year and the teen choice award for villain of the year ( I just looked it up as I think his acting is amazing)
@I don’t know Boring though the silence of the lambs won the Big 5 that was a huge step for the horror genre.
@I don’t know Boring Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for Silence of the Lambs.
Samuel L. Jackson said he was in awe of james acting in Glass. James McAvoy is an underrated actor. He made this film worth watching.
That’s awesome to hear!
I also love the subtlety of Anya's acting. Girl is going places.
Unfortunately his amazing performance couldn't make up for the rest of Glass. Such a let down after Unbreakable and Split.
@@PinkyStyleHS i agree
@@PinkyStyleHS Glass may be poor as a stand alone film but definetly fits & finishes the trilogies story; I think people were just pissed off by the ending.
McAvoy acted his ass of in this movie. And didn't even receive a nomination.
that scene at the end when he is cycling through personalities is one of the craziest movie moments ever for me. I was in awe
Yeah that was WILD!
While I completely agree, my jaw-dropping moment was earlier when the psychiatrist politely called Dennis out for pretending to be the designer(forgot his name). McAvoy’s subtle face changes were absolutely incredible. To see his facade crack and settle into Dennis was seriously impressive. Top tier acting. He should’ve gotten a statue. All the same, I felt lucky to catch this one in theaters.
Imagine not knowing that this movie was a sequel to Unbreakable, back when this came out. And then seeing Bruce Willis in the end. That scene broke my mind back then.
It's an even bigger deal when you take into account that up until Split, M. Night had never done a sequel
When I saw Split in the theater, once it ended I heard people behind me going "was that Bruce Willis? Why? Wow he must really be desperate."

@@DARKgirafa 🤣
Unfortunately I didn't watch Unbreakable yet, so I was at a loss when I saw the ending. I takeaway Unbreakable is another movie I should watch?
@@sooshiguy Yes. Another fantastic movie.
It kind of sucks that James Mcavoy didn't get any Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for this or Glass.
He deserved to win imo
Absolutely loved Split for McAvoy alone, he knocked it out of the park.
HOW he didn't win an Oscar is beyond me. I haven't watched any movie awards since.
James McAvoy is one of those rare actor I would put in to any role if a was a director after seeing this movie.
Love him for that!
It's funny how you actually fells sad for the other lost personalitys of him.
James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy both absolutely killed it in this movie.
His transition from 'Barry' to Dennis gave me goosebumps
So the thing about the girls all just freezing at such intense moments, is because there is no such thing as fight or flight anymore.
It’s fight, flight or freeze. The majority of people will instantly shut down, can’t move, can’t think, can’t turn away. It’s awful, a truly terrifying experience
It's called tonic immobility and it is the most common reaction to intense fear. It happens to all mammals, people used to refer to it as "deer in the headlights".
Its a damn shame James McAvoy didn't get recognized for his performance for this. Its incredible what he was able to do. This movie is amazing
I don't understand how anyone can think this movie is "meh". This is one of my favorite trilogies ever
Same, its my favourite superhero trilogy. I think people consider it meh because many people are used to and expect the flash and spectacle of Marvel blockbusters.
No matter how good split is, Glass was absolute garbage sorry.
@@supreme1572 loved glass thought it was a fantastic way to tell a super hero story that isn't all about super fantastical heroes and villains.
@@marcushankins8171 no it wasn't. Unbreakable was. The villain was incredibly unrealistic and forced and the great characters developed in split and unbreakable had almost nothing to do.
Yes, I love this trilogy. Such a refreshing, unique and more brutal take on the superhero genre. I really admire M. Night Shyalaman’s filmmaking.
Just realised the therapist is the lady who played the teacher in Carrie!!
I always tie her with her role in Eight is Enough.
She is also one of the original Grisabel’s from the musical, Cats. Betty Buckley is an amazing singer.
She played a memorable character in The Happening.
It took me a bit to place her as well. She's an amazing actress.
This is a masterclass in acting from James McAvoy.... astounding
NO ONE knew going in that it was a sequel to Unbreakable. That was the twist: seeing Bruce Willis at the end. Even then, some ppl still didn’t know bc they were 16 yrs apart, and many had not heard of nor seen Unbreakable. Then finding out it was a trilogy, ppl were PUMPED! We had to wait 3 YEARS for Glass, and poss the anticipation/expectation was too much bc Glass is the one that divided movie-goers ... so prepare yourself.
I know right!? Someone spoiled the ending of Split & I still got all giddy with Bruce Willis at the last shot. Then Glass was just Okay, wish I felt better about it.
I didn't saw the movie until much later and somehow didn't get it spoiled and when I got to the last scene I lost my fucking mind all by myself in my house and had nobody to talk about it. It was like "wait that's the plot twist? that's a bit underwhelming... wait a minute that soundtrack... what's bruce willis doing here... ooooOOOOOOOOOH SHIT YOU ARE KIDDING"
It was a little different for me. I wasn't really interested in Split when it was advertised, and I saw it a couple of years later when I heard that it was a sequel to Unbreakable (I LOVE that movie). I got to go into this movie knowing that it was related to Unbreakable, and there were announcements going around at the time about the movie Glass.
It helped going into Split with context, understanding a bit about the world it was set in.
When I read 6 years apart, I double checked and it has been 16!! wow. time flies by.
@@danballe Sh*t! You’re right. I KNEW it was a long a** time. And then I looked it up, and hmm, only 6 yrs? Don’t know what I was looking at. 😯
YES YES YES. PLEASE watch GLASS as well to finish this off!
Will do!
I'd rather he not. It was very disappointing
@@HABO2210 I mean...I want to watch it
@@JamesVSCinema Glass is a good movie. But many people didnt like it because its not a typical superhero movie
@@HABO2210 I personally loved it and know plenty of people that did as well. So there is a chance he will do too.
Glass is the one that is "meh", Split is amazing
16:50 this dance scene is legendary. 😂 I heard that he's dancing a story about becoming a zombie.
That’s me like..every morning at 3AM lmfaoo
The people who said this was "meh" are trippin! james McAvoy is a literal beast! One of the most underappreciated actors in hollywood! My favorite film from McAvoy is the last king of Scotland which I reccomend! Also glad you reacted to this!
Last king of Scotland is awesome! Does not get near enough love
“He is literally bending metal” Toph Beifong would be proud at least
James MacAvoy is AMAZING in this and Glass. He deserved at least one Oscar for playing "The Horde".
Surprised about the meh reaction. The movie was a surprise hit and pretty much redeemed M. Night Shyamalan again. I enjoyed it very much in theaters.
Pure ( Scottish ) gem of an actor 🏴
Make one of the most anticipated sequels in the last 15 years, without say to the audience anything about it, just let them discover it in the last minutes of the film. It's an absolute suicidal commercial movement. Shyamalan is a beast.
Just to add some additional perspective. I've known several friends with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and while it may make for a better movie script, it's highly unlikely for someone with it to have some sort of murderous or violent personality. I know this film dips into the supernatural rather than full reality, but most media representations are in this vein. I'd be happy to expand if anyone has questions
this is such an important thing to bring up. i haven't watched this trilogy because i really dislike how it portraits DID but i think it's okay to like as long as ppl are fully aware that it's not an accurate depiction of DID
@@jumpinthecadillac9507 On a different note, I would recommend Unbreakable. It's a really good movie that has nothing about DID and is self contained because it wasn't a part of the a trilogy when it was first released.
This is why I refuse to watch this film. DID is a protective response; we don't need more films villainizing people with disorders and disabilities. BOTH villains in this series are afflicted and it's a gross dedication to ableism.
So this is how Charles Xavier's son has so many personalities
Watch Legion 🙏
As much as I love me some Anya-Taylor Joy ,this is just The James McAvoy Show. Like Nightcrawler is The Jake Gyllenhaal Show.
People didn't really like what he could do by changing his personality and thought it was unrealistic, but that's the entire point of the three movies. That there are superhumans among normal people. Being unbreakable like David Dunn is also not very realistic I don't see why people complain about this.
Yeah I didn’t really see a problem with it but I’m just one person with an opinion lol.
I feel like it's probably because people with DID already have so much stigma against them, and portraying it like this didn't really help them in their fight to prove it's authenticity.
Because it's disgustingly ableist and uses a REAL disorder in a extremely stigmatizing and damaging way. We don't have actual people like Bruce Willis' character running around and facing discrimination.
People will say "that's the chick from Queens Gambit." But Anya Taylor was great in Split, as well as Witch. She got her big breaks in these movies cuz she had no idea she was gonna be an actress until her late teens.
McAvoy's physicality is unreal in this role, even more so in "Glass". It's not only the gain in size, compared to his earlier appearances, but also his movement and athletic ability. Guys like Henry Cavill, Hugh Jackman and Tom Hardy might have been bigger, but James makes his superhuman strength look real!
Same cinematographer as "It Follows" I'm pretty sure.
Loved that movie and it’s camera work
It was a nice surprise to see the ending reveal the connection with Unbreakable! This movie was great!
Great way to connect the movies!
Yeah, it had been years since unbreakable and the reveal at the end that this was a sequel was so awesome
I’m so grateful for this channel 😭❤️
I’m grateful for you!!
Underrated move + VERY underrated performance by McAvoy
I love this movie and trilogy. Everytime a director says they want to make a superhero movie grounded in reality I think of this trilogy. Too me these movies are the only ones that truly accomplishes it.
McAvoy freaking killed it in this role! Shame he didn't get more recognition from the Academy.
This movie was Fantastic. Glass was even greater too. Idk why people said it was ok. That's the first time I've heard that as my friends loved this too
McAvoy deserved an Oscar for this role(s), but they completely snubbed him and didn't even nominate him.
Also, saw this in theaters within a couple weeks of it coming out and was so happy no one spoiled that last scene in the diner. The marketing did a great job (for once) and didn't even give away anything which made that Bruce Willis reveal shocking.
James did a bang-up job in this one. Unbreakable to Split, both fantastic movies. I'm glad we got this duology. Yup. Just these two movies. Maybe one day they'll do another squeal to make it a trilogy. I don't know, maybe they will maybe they won't. But for now, it's just these two. Just these two great movies.
James macavoy’s acting in this is god tier
McAvoy is honestly one of the greatest actors we have today.
Why isn't no one talking about Anya Taylor-Joy, she absolutely killed it. As well as McAvoy but Anya deserves more credit.
I'm not ashamed to say that M. Night Shyamalan made me go to film school. Love this man, love his movies...even the bad ones. You're the man James!!!
This movie is highly underrated!!! It's super well done. Well acted. Well directed. Well shot. Well edited. Entertaining. It's a big win
McAvoy acted his ass off in this movie. He definitely deserved an oscar and the part where he bends the bars is very creepy and gives me goosebumps when I watch it. That might be my favorite part when he is the beast.
Nah, this was a great movie. Don't know why people didn't like it. Maybe because M. Knight was coming off a few stinkers and people just wanted to keep hating.
I think a lot of people disliked it due to the problematic representation of DID, it got some stuff right but it could have been better
It didn’t have the best representation when it came to DID, and painted people with the disorder as being more dangerous than other people. It’s negatively affected a lot of people with the disorder, I enjoyed the movie and I enjoyed the acting. The movie also made me learn as much as I could about DID, but it gave a lot of other people false beliefs about people.
It’s a great movie regardless and I think James should’ve gotten nominated fir it because he did an amazing job.
Because it's ableist and creates yet another horrible, ignorant and uneducated depiction of a terribly stigmatized disorder. Do you think the general public won't see movies like this and project violent intentions onto people with DID?
Macavoy shows he is a master of his craft here in a film that is about the characters and not effects
Man my reaction to that post credit scene in the cinema was something to behold good times
Hahaha oh it must’ve been an epic moment!
YO! Same here. I was like "OH SHIT! ALL CONNECTED!"
I want to know who the hell said that the film was meh... Because this film was a banger when it came out and no one knew it was related to unbreakable until the last scene and the film was amazing. The film that was meh was Glass. But it was a closer. Amazing reaction my friend.
McAvoy is so underrated. He should have been nominated in my opinion.
Love this movie, James Mcavoy should of got an Oscar nomination for his performance.
This was an awesome movie and McAvoy did an excellent job portraying the various personalities. There was a show called Orphan Black in which actress Tatiana Maslany portrayed various cloned characters in the show. She also did a great job with each character. McAvoy definitely deserves recognition for his performance.
After seeing what Casey has been through (and is probably still going through since she's still in the custody of her uncle), it makes so much sense that her immediate reaction is to freeze. It's lizard brain stuff, and contrary to popular belief, fight or flight are not the only reflex responses. Just like a deer in headlights, sometimes the brain tells us the safest thing to do is to freeze. I struggle with this a lot. CPTSD has made my emotional reflexes like hair triggers which makes it incredibly difficult to function normally.
I remember so many people not being impressed by this film but I really liked it. James McAvoy is absolutely phenomenal.
Loved the reaction! The soundtrack for this is so good. Glad to see you really liked the movie! Excited to see your thoughts on Glass when you get to check that out.
Brandon!!!!! I love you!!!! ❣️❣️❣️❣️ breaking bad is almost over! Crazy 😊
Love ya brandon there has to be a collab one day
Fun Fact: This character was actually supposed to be a second villain in Unbreakable but Shymalan said he couldn't squeeze him in and decided to bring the character back to life for this movie years later.
Also there is a scene in Unbreakable where David bumps into a mother and her son and sees that she abuses him. Many believe the son is actually Kevin as a child
I know this film is 4 years old at this point, but it's such a bummer that some people couldn't recommend it without spoiling it.
Man this was my favorite movie experience in 2016. The reveal in the end just made me rethink the entire movie. Really caught me off guard since it wasn't a known thing that it had anything to do with Unbreakable.
Happy Holidays! 😂
I have no idea how some people can think this movie is not good my opinion one of the best movies to come out in the past 10 years and McAvoy‘s performance for me is right up there with Heath ledger Joker and actually phoenix joker his ability to switch a character instantaneous by facial movements and posture and even the way he Breathes like you can literally identify who the character is without them having even say a word I don’t know how he didn’t win awards for this performance and to be honest the third one glass really broke my heart to be honest such a waste of great characters three really amazing characters and just it feels like to me there is no real payoff It’s like they were just discarded a real shame
I'm shocked how there's people who think this movie is Meh.. They must need Avenger movies to entertain them. The story was so good and James Performane was masterful. And the build up to the end and the beast! So fucking good!!
One of the coolest twist in cinema history, the twist is it was a different genre the entire time
Originally the kidnapper at the end of Unbreakable was Kevin, but Shamalan couldnt make a movie long enough to give the back story
I’m glad you enjoyed this film because of the Philadelphia places you knew as much as I did for Sacramento in lady bird
James mcavoy has been one of my favourite actors for a long time but this period of evolution is magical to watch. I loved finding out that he choreographed the 'zombie' dance and the whole film is anchored by his performance which is a masterclass of acting.
Rejoice! The broken are the more evolved. Pure goosebumbs that scène! Maybe the best scène, in my opinion.
This movie inspire me to believe what could exist beyond reality.
Oh sorry...forgot to mention something else too that's really genius. When you watch it again...take a look at the connection to the credits and the number of personalities. I loved that they did this...it's small, but it's so cool. The duplication of the rolling credits :D Okay...I'm done. Maybe.
I personally love this movie. The subtle changes in McAvoy allows you to figure out which identity he is.
I have been saying this for years but James McAvoy is one of the best and most underrated, underappreciated actors from the past 10 years
Edit: Besides Paul Dano
Whoever said this movie is meh needs THEIR head examining. The movie is incredible.
Think it’s a great film, Anya Taylor-Joy and McAvoy killed it. Also, love how they slowly revealed her backstory throughout. Another cool thing about Unbreakable and Split is that I believe if you line up the posters, they fit together.
Nothing will beat that feeling when I heard the unbreakable music the first time I saw this!!!
I love how the first twist/reveal is not visual. It's the main theme from Unbreakable. Then we get the diner scene
Yes! I've been waiting so long for this reaction, great job bro!
Happy to hear it homie!!
@@JamesVSCinema Also I'm pretty sure most of the medical information in the film is accurate except the outfits for the different personalities.
I really enjoyed this one too... I mean Jame's performance is fucking iconic. And Betty Buckley is a legend in her own right! If you've seen the OG Carrie you know her as the coach.
Can't wait for you to see Glass and how it all comes together.
Of you were not spoiled..the ending was a mind f$#@. You had no clue it was a unbreakable sequel till that moment
so, I know this was from 2020, but im just now getting to this one. my new fav thing is to rewatch some of my fav movies with you James!! You are insightful, passionate, and now I watch for camera work :) i look forward to watching many more interesting movies with you
You always find movies I didn't realize I'd want to see someone react to
McAvoy's performance reminds me of what heath ledger brought to his portayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight
Same thing man. Heard mixed reviews heading in but the films incredible. Great usage of tones from multiple genres to compliment each other. Really entertaining. Also loved how they delayed the Bruce Willis reveal. Awesome cinema.
I love this movie and can't how people could say it's "meh"
I'm SO glad that you finally watched this! I loved this movie. It's so damn entertaining.
I remember commenting on one of your videos sometime ago and asked if you've seen this or plan to. I'm very glad that you finally chose to give it a watch. :)
Both Raising Caine and Sybil are older films that deal with multiple personalities of the main character. You should check them out.
I remember seeing that diner scene in the theater. I heard him say Mr Glass and i stood up and cheered.
Never seen any of these movies, but I loved watching your reactions to this one, especially when you realised what diner they were in at the end. I think it's so cool that the movie went someplace that you apparently know so well.
I really appreciate your commentary. I've always been a movie fan, but i feel like i'm gaining appreciation for cinematography.
This movie was really great. One of my favorite movies -- still remember watching this in theatres and was blown away, especially with the soundtrack
Bro. You breaking down shit I never even thought of in regards to camera angles and director shots of this. Love your reaction to this
You always name drop the best anime out of nowhere and I'm here for it.
LMFAOO happy someone appreciates it haha
Cant believe people said this was meh.
Split is awesome. Performances especially James McAvoy are phenomenal.
his acting alone is worth watching, some of the best acting iv seen, love this film
This was a good movie and I loved McAvoy's performance. He's a great actor. Loved him as Professor X in the X-Men prequels.
I think another M Night movie you'd like is "the Village" with Joaquin Phoenix.
This is definitely a top 3 M. Night movie. My top 3 are Signs, the Sixth Sense and Split.
I loved signs but unbreakable and split and village are my personal favs
People who say this movie is "meh" have no empathy and no respect for the art that's being displayed
This movie is incredible, and the acting in it even more so.
i have a lot of empathy but it’s still meh lol
That's such an illogical take. By that logic we should not be able to criticise any work of art because literally all of them has a lot of passion put into it.
yeahyeah.. because something like taste doesn't exist, right? because you loved it, everyone else has to... godamn egomaniacs these days
@@the_crypter never said you couldn’t criticize it though? The best works in history are not perfect works. Perfect is non existent. You could find problems in Hitchcock’s movies and he’s supposedly still one of the greatest film makers in history.
What I meant is, to all you offended kids that instantly comment because they feel attacked on their ability to express their opinion, is that brushing away a movie such as this with just an “it’s meh” shows you didn’t care to immerse yourself in the movie, ergo, don’t have the empathy for it. Never said that was a bad thing, never said you couldn’t dislike this movie or criticize it, never said you had to have the same opinion as me.
You’re criticizing my comment by doing the exact thing you’re accusing me of doing lol. THAT is what is wrong with people today.
@@stefanforrer2573 maybe actually read before you comment. Your comment was the dumbest out of all reactions because you so desperately wanted to point out that I was supposedly an egomaniac by completely misinterpreting my comment, and bashing my opinion in the process making you the egomaniac yourself. Maybe stop projecting when you’re reading comments so that you could actually understand what’s being said rather than what you think is being said :)
Great seeing you react to this great film! I was just as blown away as you were.
I think this is one of your best reactions yet!
Keep it up mate.
Overseer or David Dunn = Superman
Mr Glass = Lex Luther and professor x
The Beast/Kevin = Hulk and doomsday
