- Plot Summary: Captain Harlock is drawn into a saga of intergalactic proportions when the son of a deceased comrade unwittingly forges the Ring of the Niebelung. Evil forces gather to wage war against the last remaining superpowers of the galaxy led by a demented outcast. Harlock must counter the amassed armadas that threaten the last gods and recover the ring before Paradise is lost.

The visuals, animation and voice acting are so timeless. It seems better every time I watch.
I saw this anime years ago and my jawn broke from hiting the groung from how badass this show is it's a way better version then that one in the 70's so i have to thank you for posting this .

I haven't watched this show for 12 years and yet I remembered the ending theme.
It's cool how Captain Harlock appears 20 minutes in, let's see another try and pull that one off, Harlock is awesome.

8:58 This tunnel flight scene seems to be a signature of an animator I can't remember a name but he worked with Leiji Matsumoto in Be Forever Yamato before.
Thank you for posting. The English dub is ok. Not the best I've seen, but it is watchable. Tochiro sounds kinda weird. I have a fondness for these late 90s cell animes like this and Queen Emeraldas.

" I can't help but wonder if George Lucas was inspired by seeing this series when he was creating his own space fantasy opera -" StarWars! " Hope you're planning on releasing more of these animie classics. BTW, I'm old enough to remember the old " AstroBoy and Gigantor ! "

I learned about this show from a Shirt that Glenn Danzig was wearing in a picture.
My wife and I have the OG Bandai DVD's for this and the 40 episode series on the OG DVD's as well.

Is it just me or would this have been better in Japanese with subtitles? The voice talent did fine but I know what these people sound like and in english it just doesn't do it....

This is fantastic! I can not believe that they did an adaption of the famous Wagner 'The Ring of the Nibelung'. The wrote the opera in 1869. This is fantastic! I love Japan!
I can't remember when did Marvel Comics released Thor? Before or after Harlock Saga? But both are basically Space Wagner.

The chi movie was really good, I think. I am unlucky enough to have seen it first. It was odd to follow in the beginning but it's still pretty good

LM worked together with Katsumi Itabashi (ol pal since SBY Season 2, also worked alot with YAS), not everytime LM recognizible design is implemented. Also he began to take apprentices by this time around, someone might come with different design ideas alien to the two.
I know opera singers (therefore Wagner and Nibelungs etc.) and I know boys who were young in the 80s and 90s and were anime fans. That’s why I came here 😂

They're all designed by Matsumoto. And he's been determined to tie everything he wrote into one universe for a while. (In the most recent manga Arcadia is the former Gaia Coalition flagship)

Why the French named this Albator instead of Harlock?
Because at the time it sounded too much like our 'Capitaine Haddok,' from the Tintin comics :) we don't ressent that choice, both names suit him very well ^^
