Having a good computers system got really important at a certain point last century. I also learned in a documentary that Blockbuster was successful largely because the founder created a good system for managing rentals while the other rental stores didn't have good systems.
Panda actually didnt have orange chicken when they first opened, but after a littke while, they created it for exclusively their hawaiian customers, but then it got so popular they brought it to all stores.
Years ago, I remember my old manager from subway was hired at a Panda Express as a General Manager or something like that. I live near the Panda Express headquarters. It’s a nice little building, but it’s a fraction of the size of typical corporations’ headquarters; I think that says a lot about the owners’ mindset of growing steadily and strategically. They also built an actual restaurant location next door, and it has the nicest interior and highest quality food of all Pandas I’ve eaten at (obviously lol)
I love the Panda Express story. Plus their food is pretty darn good AND cheap for being a “fast food Chinese restaurant” I remember my spouse saying that he would never eat at Panda Express, until they opened one up where we lived and he saw the prices and figured why not try it out… got him hooked after that! Panda Express has the most inefficient line service ever. Why don’t they follow Chipotle’s technique and pass the food to the next employee. One does the rice one does the entree etc. instead it takes 10 minutes for them to get through 4 customers.
I like panda because the place i go to, its always fresh. Always people cooking batches of food in the back. The person working behind the counter always asking for fried rice or orange chicken etc... Its not like a buffet where the food just sits there for a half a day drying out in luke warm heat.
I used to like Panda Express. But then I lived with some people who wanted to eat it every week. Instead of like once a month. Eating it every week made me realize that it’s not great. I no longer wanted to eat it because I got sick of it. If I want some Chinese food, I’ll either go to a real Chinese restaurant, or make it myself.
