Only in the northern line that you can experience the jungle and mountainous. the other line mostly are the vast plain and plantation especially in the south is the para rubber plantation instead of the jungle (as a Thai myself, disappointed too).

I know Suratthani station very well. In 2018 we went from Koh Samui to the Malay border. Our train from Bangkok was 8 hours late, finally picking us up around 4am. The benches on the platform were not in the least bit comfortable so very little sleep was had. Playing card games and drinking Singha beer helped.
Still the most fun way to travel and the Thai night trains, while a little worse for wear, are a good way to meet people and get a decent night’s sleep.
Thanks for bringing back the memories. I hope you enjoyed Koh Samui!

Thanks for reawakening lovely memories Nonstop! When I went to the islands about two years ago, you took a bus to the left of the station exit, which took you to Talat Kaset in Surat Thani city center, and that’s where you could find agencies with reasonable shuttles and ferries to the islands. And coffee! The distances are much further than you’d think.

That route passes through a city called Nakhon Pathom (About 90 mins west of Bangkok). Got a mate who lives there and I've taken a regional/commuter DMU from NP to Bangkok too.

It is in theory, at least, illegal to drink alcohol on all Thai trains!!

That must be a recent change as the dining cars were more like a pub in the evening on most thai long distance trains.

1:56 This man is complaining about your mask it seems. I wondered, but you gave the info in the text - thanks! (29. bis 30.8.22) I hear Thailand considers to get the money back as the princess is in coma. Not even half a year and all is changed. -- We once stuck in a train for 16 hours somewhere south of Chiang Mai. Trains are the one thing, which are not reliable there. So I never tried again.

I’m surprised they sell beer on the trains again. The unverified but repeated story goes, a few years ago a drunk Thai train attendant raped a girl and threw her out the window. Hence, in all the Thai Railway’s wisdom, alcohol, on board and at the stations was prohibited. I was actually yelled at by an attendant for having a beer on board, unknowing of the new regs. I grew up in Bangkok in the 50s but find the Thais, not all of course, far less friendly than almost all SE Asian countries. But newbie tourists love it- the beach, the cheap street food, etc. Most or many of us long-termers say of Thailand, no money, no smile. The difference between Yangon and BKK is remarkable, in my humble opinion. For example, the difference between the van drivers to Penang and those in Mexico is night and day. The Mexicans are warm and friendly, the Thais like carrying pigs to market. But alas, Thailand has good hospitals and dentists.

The station you have now disabled. and going to use at a bigger station at Bang Sue .And the fact that the train you take is not 1st class. It's more like a 2nd class because the 1st floor is gray and not purple.

Great video, really helpful. I'm planning to take the same trip with my family. I have a question, have you bought tickets from the station or from online prior to your visit?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately not, you have to book eas early as possible after they go on sale 30 days in advance of travel, because it they do sell out, especially first class

Born once in a lifetime on this planet Everyone should find the opportunity to ride Thai trains. once I am from this country Used the service 1 time and there won't be a next time Because it's the most wonderful time. 40 years ago, how will it be in 100 years or 300 years, it will be the same. The distance may not reach 500km. But believe me, it's like taking passengers across from Vaal to the surface of the moon. may be as long as across the universe and should not go down on the way I think so because he cares about every life when we pass the Thai train We will be born again. After stepping off the train..amen
